Yes, well deserving of the number 7 spot :)

nice

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:17 (seven years ago) link

Just catching up and wished I'd voted, now - kind of assumed I wouldn't have known enough to be objective. But, hell, SDRE are great and Jehu are transcendent (though I'm even mess sure of the parameters of the genre seeing them here).

yank crime is one of my five favorite records ever and i know it's firmly considered emo but it never really scanned as such to me. obv no complaints with it showing up here.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:19 (seven years ago) link

i sing along to this album at least 4-6 times during the year. i know it word for word by heart. it's like the absolute height of "clever" emo lines. "If looks could really kill, then my profession would staring." "And these are the words you wish you wrote down / This is the way you wish your voice sounds / Handsome and smart / Oh, my tongue's the only muscle in my body that works harder than my heart." "We saw the western coast. / I saw the hospital. / Nurse the shoreline like a wound." -- and it's just packed w/ bangers back to front. i'm v in love with this album.

"Call me a safe bet. / I'm betting I'm not."

I didn't vote but always wanted to check out that Juno album on the strength of a great SPIN review, which compared it to Loveless and Tom Verlaine's Dreamtime (???) and said that it replaced the guitar hero with the guitar victim

SPIN was also how I'd heard of Rainer Maria; they really got behind a lot of this stuff back in the day

Also Drive Like Jehu: waaay lower than expected

jorts l0chinski (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:24 (seven years ago) link

i think i got into juno b/c of that review

drums on Time Bomb are the best ever xp

Yeah, that was the first one that stopped me in my tracks - guitar sound too. Drums are great on "The Other Side" too.

Anniversary was my #2 yayayay

billstevejim, Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:51 (seven years ago) link

I like that some people simply voted for the records they like while disregarding a shared definition of emo, because I'm really enjoying the variety here. And I'm also happy that people who love those same not-necessarily-emo records chose to exclude them from ballots, because it kept a lot of that stuff from hijacking the top 20.

billstevejim, Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:53 (seven years ago) link

i guess i could wait until it places but every time i listen to how it feels to be something on i am absolutely knocked out by the last three tracks

Liking the Appleseed Cast stuff a lot. On Reflection currently making me levitate. Reminds me of a cracking and criminally underheard Scottish band from a few years back called There Will Be Fireworks.

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 March 2017 22:15 (seven years ago) link

tbh i'm surprised clarity didn't place already so maybe i'm wrong

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 March 2017 22:19 (seven years ago) link

voted Clarity much higher than Bleed which i think is kind of uneven but don't know how representative i am
