Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 19:32 (seven years ago) link

having lived with this record for two weeks, i love it sooooooooooooooooooooo much

i also like how much the sleeve design resembles the first sundays record

i am glad this poll exists or i would never have uncovered the joy of SDRE

― Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, March 9, 2017 12:56 PM (thirty-nine minutes ago)

lol my pearl jam comparison was was 100% intended as a VG-Bat-Signal ;)

gr8080, Thursday, 9 March 2017 19:37 (seven years ago) link

lol I just listened to the second half of LP2 and when it ended, The Swarm's Parasitic Skies started up

I want to change my display name (dan m), Thursday, 9 March 2017 19:42 (seven years ago) link

sdre were such a fixture of my college listening that i can't remember what it was like to hear them for the first time (probably frustration, diary doesn't work like a lot of rock music does, enigk's voice is super hoarse through the whole thing). anyway i'm psyched for vg

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 March 2017 19:42 (seven years ago) link

actually i think the migration was:

baffled by diary -> checks out how it feels to be something on -> "wow this is the most perfect and beautiful music i've ever heard -> returns to diary, understands it more

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 9 March 2017 19:46 (seven years ago) link

struggling myself to make the pearl jam connections but w/e it takes to get peeps on board im down.

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 19:52 (seven years ago) link

I think LP2 is my favourite SDRE. Or the one it took to get me into them anyway. "baffled by diary" was first experience too.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:15 (seven years ago) link

I remember liking Juno but still thinking "pffft, they were still the lesser side of that D-Plan split". The campaigning thread forced me to go back and listen again, so thank you!

I want to change my display name (dan m), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:20 (seven years ago) link

what really impressed me the most on revisiting that record is just how fluid the playing is, none of the time changes or compositional tricks feel tacked on. Everything is just so damn seamless.

many xposts but SDRE / Pearl Jam boils is a music similarity only - not vox or lyrics.
mega bass noodling in the background, lotsa cymbals, and a big showoffy lead guitar for the solos, hooky riffs, repeated melodies

style of the choruses too occasionally

also their indiscernible lyrics reminds me of PJ's yellow ledbetter. newbies used to join alt.music.pearljam & their first post would be "anyone have the lyrics for yellow ledbetter?" it was a running joke bcz ~there arent any~

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:31 (seven years ago) link
