i like city by the light divided a lot but i think this album is fantastic - tons of great tunes, thematically dense

TITR obv not false emo but I can't agree w/ Converge... it's great but maybe more "bands that are not emo that ppl who are rly emo also listen to"

I want to change my display name (dan m), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:24 (seven years ago) link

Texas is the Reason is too low

devvvine, Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:28 (seven years ago) link

do you know who you are for me is just like "what if there was an emo album with the scope and sound of a smashing pumpkins record and also it rocked really hard," sort of inevitable that it would be one of my fav albums of all time

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:29 (seven years ago) link

Thursday was the best discovery of this poll by far. Not this album exactly, but a few of the others have become instant favorites.

I also forgot to listen to TitR, will remedy soon.

ArchCarrier, Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:33 (seven years ago) link

ok Do You Know Who You Are is def in my wheelhouse

(also i love the emo-tragedy-mythology of the "1 or 2 albums then they broke up" bands)

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:33 (seven years ago) link

this is great so far

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:34 (seven years ago) link

that reissue they put out a few years ago constitutes literally every song they wrote together. the new songs are both great (and if you love the album definitely listen to "blue boy" which is their best song and which only appeared on a split with the promise ring)

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:34 (seven years ago) link

Yeah this was very high on my ballot, such a great record.

cwkiii, Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:36 (seven years ago) link

xp "Blue Boy" one of the top reasons why I wished there was a tracks poll.

cwkiii, Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:36 (seven years ago) link

"texas is the reason" is prob the most emo band name imo.

pays tribute to an established non-emo punk band, expresses a enigmatic sentiment that both answers and asks a question, also references american geography (v important part of emo imo)

gr8080, Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:36 (seven years ago) link

not to mention american history

gr8080, Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:36 (seven years ago) link

brb getting in my time machine to form
my emo band SUCK JACKIE SUCK

i still want to do a trax poll bad

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:39 (seven years ago) link

p sure SUCK JACKIE SUCK wd rank highly in this poll

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:40 (seven years ago) link

at first i was like "the genre is album-oriented! there'd be no point!" but "blue boy" also turned me onto the idea xp

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:41 (seven years ago) link

(also i love the emo-tragedy-mythology of the "1 or 2 albums then they broke up" bands)

Record last album and then break up before album comes out seems to be a big emo trend, too.

cwkiii, Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:41 (seven years ago) link

it's hard to be successful + sad

Single disc comprehensive career retrospectives are v emo, I voted for two of them (Saetia and Neil Perry, the latter of which I suspect sadly will not place)

Guy Pidgeotto (Tom Violence), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:43 (seven years ago) link

I listened to Young Machetes yesterday, it was much better than I remembered. Still not as good as Crimes

^yeah diggin it

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:50 (seven years ago) link

this album is an anxiety attack

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:52 (seven years ago) link

re: SUCK JACKIE SUCK, one of the potential band names I came up with in college was SOKMOTOR - Swedish for search engine. It wouldn't have been emo though.

ArchCarrier, Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:53 (seven years ago) link

i think im becoming a blood bros fan?

BPIB destoryed my world and was my gateway into any/all forms of extreme music, I owe it a massive debt. also the wildest major label album maybe ever?

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:55 (seven years ago) link

destroyed my spelling too

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:55 (seven years ago) link

this was released on a major? ha

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:56 (seven years ago) link

err I guess not technically a proper major but really damn close

In February 2001, Interscope Records co-founder Ted Field launched ARTISTdirect Records (aka ADR) in conjunction with artistdirect.com co-founder Marc Geiger.[7] Financially backed and distributed by Bertelsmann Music Group the label sought to wed a traditional record label with Artistdirect's online delivery platform. The label failed and folded in 2003 leaving behind several releases from artists such as The Blood Brothers, No Good, and Mad at Gravity, and a tab of $100,000,000.

starting to get worried that Appleseed Cast may not place... "Forever Longing the Golden Sunsets" would be top-5 on a tracks poll
