a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:24 (seven years ago) link

hell yeah

gr8080, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:24 (seven years ago) link

Fuck yeah! This is the best swan song EVER. My #3.

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:25 (seven years ago) link

this is not the one I voted for but it's good!

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:25 (seven years ago) link

beautiful record

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:28 (seven years ago) link

i think i didn't realize how good it was until paramore covered "faces in disguise" on the riot tour

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:28 (seven years ago) link

i left this off my ballot and had Dairy in its place, which is stupid bc this is prob the SDRE i love the most

my circle of friends in lolcollege had 2 bros who listened to metal exclusively and when this album came out we evangelized to them relentlessly until they became dudes who listened to metal and the new SDRE exclusively. about a dozen of us went and saw them on this tour together and were so zealous in our singing along and swaying that most of the rest of the audience took note and the band at one point acknowledged us

gr8080, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:32 (seven years ago) link

awesome

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:33 (seven years ago) link

this album is way more Pearl Jam than emo imo, but who cares

gr8080, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:33 (seven years ago) link

singing along and swaying

I'm seeing the Dashboard Unplugged audience in my head when I read those words.

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:34 (seven years ago) link

exactly.

but we looked cooler and the music sounded way better

gr8080, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:38 (seven years ago) link

Anyone who thinks Diary is better should listen to 'Disappear'. Or 'Snibe'.

Or their very best song, which they put in the final spot on their final release:

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:38 (seven years ago) link

I could listen to that thing all day (and I have, actually).

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:39 (seven years ago) link

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:41 (seven years ago) link

omg lol @ pfork review

gr8080, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:41 (seven years ago) link

this isn't *really* emo (though the vocals help) but I couldn't not vote for it, my #4 and an all-time favorite

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:42 (seven years ago) link

lmao

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:42 (seven years ago) link

Ten bonus points for Imago!

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:43 (seven years ago) link

some of the greatest, most expensive guitar sounds ever

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:43 (seven years ago) link

God, that review.

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:43 (seven years ago) link

I mainly felt OK voting for it cause I had a lot of extremely emo times listening to it

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:44 (seven years ago) link

you guys should probably also check out the Dear You review lol

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:44 (seven years ago) link

yeah this was the album cover I was talking about

great, great album

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:45 (seven years ago) link

love that hum record to death. wanted to vote for it but so many other albums just felt more right to me.

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:46 (seven years ago) link

might have been my #4 too

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:46 (seven years ago) link

189 points and four votes mean the other two votes must have been really fuckin high too (assuming 50 for a no. 1?)

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:47 (seven years ago) link

SDRE and Hum back to back <3

I felt too much out of my depth to vote in this poll, had no idea which way the emo pendulum would swing. Turns out it's surprisingly going into very different directions. Which is good. Should have voted. Rising Tide is the one for me, as great as Diary is.

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:52 (seven years ago) link

glad mordy did a top 100. l

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:55 (seven years ago) link

I will forever maintain that this album would not be the commercial disaster it was had they released "Green to Me" or "If You Are to Bloom" as the lead single ("Comin' Home" was a *terrible* choice)

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:56 (seven years ago) link

if nothing else they both had sweet earwormy opening riffs

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:58 (seven years ago) link

Liking Hum so far, should have gotten round to them years ago. Think they were definitely an influence on Oceansize, and I now realise Lantlos' last album was basically a heavier version of this

FORGIVE ME!

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:04 (seven years ago) link

iirc without four minute mile fall out boy would not exist

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:04 (seven years ago) link

we're going to have to work out the most emo cover in the top 100 when this is all done

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:05 (seven years ago) link

189 points and four votes mean the other two votes must have been really fuckin high too (assuming 50 for a no. 1?)

Yep: three people had it at #4, one #3.

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:07 (seven years ago) link

"Don't Hate Me" is ground zero for The Weezer Effect

gr8080, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:08 (seven years ago) link

Have never been able to get into Rising Tide as much as the other SDRE albums but I'll keep trying.

Re: Pitchfork's old emo reviews, nothing beats all the Joan of Arc ones, I've never known a publication hate a band so much.

Gavin, Leeds, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:10 (seven years ago) link

i only voted for one get up kids record but even that felt weird bc i feel like all of their best songs are on unrelated eps

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:12 (seven years ago) link

sund4r has raved about Hum for years

Odysseus, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:14 (seven years ago) link

I voted for a different get up kids record

Odysseus, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:14 (seven years ago) link

we're going to have to work out the most emo cover in the top 100 when this is all done

Ha! Regardless of what else places I'm voting Tell All Your Friends.

Gavin, Leeds, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:14 (seven years ago) link

i drove 200 miles round-trip to see GUK the night before i graduated high school

gr8080, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:16 (seven years ago) link

I ended up not voting for any Get Up Kids. I listened to bits of a couple records and they didn't hit me like I thought they were going to. And yet I really like "I'm a Loner, Dottie, a Rebel..." which reminds me I forgot to vote for the Post Marked Stamps comp CD.

I saw the Hold Steady open for the Get Up Kids years ago. Weird bill. The emo kids were not into THS. Six months later I saw THS again in a small venue and mentioned the show to Craig outside the club. His response: "Well, when you fuck with emo, emo fucks with you."

breakdown in "fall semester" is all time

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:17 (seven years ago) link

I voted for a different get up kids record

I had this on my list and one of their EPs in my top 10.
