That Unwound record has never done a single thing for me, I've tried a handful of times over the years, cant find a way in.

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 23:03 (seven years ago) link

Pinegrove was my highest 21st Century entry (at #11)

Self-edit. Obviously that's not true, I just forgot maths for a second. It is my favourite of this decade's emo releases though.

tangenttangent, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 23:14 (seven years ago) link

Jawbreaker have been a band I'd basically avoided because of the name? Which was an error

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 23:20 (seven years ago) link

'Fernandez Must Die' just started up on the Fireside album and me and imago looked up at each other which means 'omg'

tangenttangent, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 23:37 (seven years ago) link

Wait you two are together? I'm confused

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 23:39 (seven years ago) link

um why has nobody mentioned this album *ever*

gr8080, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 23:42 (seven years ago) link

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 23:42 (seven years ago) link

they are like post-punk fairytale music

gr8080, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 23:43 (seven years ago) link

this thread will be some rich, rich pickings for music i never really got around to before and an incredibly valuable resource of emotional rock music

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 23:43 (seven years ago) link

imago needs to hear Three Mile Pilot before he goes to sleep. Brilliant band.

Odysseus, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 23:46 (seven years ago) link

My fave 3MP song
https://youtu.be/KDnrSu-lju4

Odysseus, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 23:48 (seven years ago) link

We have to listen to the entirety of every Dashboard release before that can happen.

tangenttangent, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 23:49 (seven years ago) link

that's a mistake! Every 3MP release is awesome. and Black Heart Procession were damn brilliant too.

Odysseus, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 23:50 (seven years ago) link

The 3MP song gr80 posted is great. Reminds me of Broken Social Scene a bit?

Loads on here to discover. Laughed seeing Bedhead placed, but thinking about it, it makes perfect sense to see it under the emo banner. Good work guys.

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 23:54 (seven years ago) link

Fireside is straight-up ridic, amazing music

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 23:59 (seven years ago) link

i only know emo through a freshman year crash course amongst friends but

99. Elliott - False Cathedrals - massive album, "drive on to me" is a mfin ANTHEM, like caffeinated "don't stop believing". the follow up album song in the air is really good too.

I'm not doing multiple albums, or even an entire one yet, but I did just stream "Screaming Infidelities" on Youtube (with a video of "hot emo boys") and I think "wtf?" is all I have to say rn.

My Body's Made of Crushed Little Evening Stars (Sund4r), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 00:36 (seven years ago) link

I do not know what that is! If it's not likely to show up during the rollout then I'll be sure to play it once I'm caught up between days, xp

tangenttangent, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 00:39 (seven years ago) link

Lol Sund4r, had you not heard it before? I think it's sole potency lies on 'your hair is everywhere' being such a weird and ubiquitous sentiment

tangenttangent, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 00:41 (seven years ago) link

I heard it in 00/01 or when it was new but not since.

My Body's Made of Crushed Little Evening Stars (Sund4r), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 00:43 (seven years ago) link

Oh wow Further Seems Forever sound awful so far.

My Body's Made of Crushed Little Evening Stars (Sund4r), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 00:43 (seven years ago) link

which further seems forever singer?

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 00:44 (seven years ago) link

some iterations of the band are better than others (tho which are better and which are worse appears to be a subject of dispute)

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 00:45 (seven years ago) link

I think it was "So Cold" and "The Sound" that Youtube was giving me.

My Body's Made of Crushed Little Evening Stars (Sund4r), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 00:46 (seven years ago) link

were you Ottowa dudes in to Three Penny Opera?

never heard them!

hi i didnt vote bc my ballot would be 100% FOB ...so i'm here to broaden my horizons

I've already fallen in love w Lifetime thanks guys :D

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 01:08 (seven years ago) link

as far as random discoveries go that angel hair record is pretty entertaining jehu impression.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 01:11 (seven years ago) link

Isn't it more extreme than Drive Like Jehu? DLJ played at 45 maybe?

Catching up with this now as well. It's so nice! The vocalist reminds me of the Less Than Jake guy. I don't mean that in a bad way.

tangenttangent, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 01:27 (seven years ago) link

this poll reinforces the fact that i have no idea what emo is (bedhead, really?) -- i didn't nominate anything, just voted for the shit i liked

good rollout so far tho! (mrs mordy's emo boy comment is a fave.) count me among those who tried blood brothers several times to no avail

mookieproof, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 01:30 (seven years ago) link

bedhead is the most wtf so far when it comes to emoness

yeah something like that, a hardcore band that heard jehu and tried to imitate that sound

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 01:34 (seven years ago) link

all you blood brothers fans should also check out the Past Lives album and the first Jaguar Love album (but for the love of God stay far away from the second!), they were their equivalent of the Sparta/Mars Volta split

I love it so much, the production is a bit flat but they had such a cool sound, and it's wild to hear johnny give'r on such vibrant, poppy songs

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 01:57 (seven years ago) link

My #4 has already placed, as well as two other things in my top 20 (Saetia and Very Emergency). My #4 was The Swiss Army Romance, which for my money was easily the best DC album.

Crimes is one of my favorite albums of all time, truly an amazing piece of work. I still haven't really gotten into Young Machetes. Maybe I'll give it another shot tonight. I didn't vote for any Blood Brothers because I'd never thought of them as emo. Same with Refused and Unwound. But that's the interesting part about the way this poll was run, the relative emo-ness of an album seems to influence its ranking.

Rainer Maria should show up. I voted for three of theirs, one in my top 15.

My favorite Lifetime album is the one from the 70s with Tony Williams on it, but I'll give their 90s albums another shot.

in typical fashion I now feel a bit bad (ok not actually that bad) for getting folks on the juno train for this poll cause on re-re-relistening I'm now convinced only the 1st album is emo "enough", the 2nd is mor like every new guitar genre of the last 25 years thrown in a magical blender
