it's an album about worrying a lot and relocating to Omaha to hang out with emo people, I don't know how much more emo it gets

lol yeah it doesn't fit all the conventions, but listen to that group chorus on "With Arms Outstretched."

Incredible album. Can't believe it came out in 2002; I remember picking it up the day it came out and listening to it on a CD walkman

at least ppl in the same circle were also listening to rilo kiley at the time? as i remember it anyway? the wrens as much as i love them were just a whole different thing. that said i think i gave the meadowlands like a #30 on my ballot lol

It feels very of a piece with Paramore's s/t album, not just because of the easy comparison of two charismatic, fashionable redhead singers, but of how it uses one very strong personality and songwriting voice to bind together all sorts of different genre detours

Anyway most people must not consider it emo b/c that's the only thing that explains it placing so low (I just revisited my ballot and saw I left it off, but in hindsight I'd place it high on my list)

Interviewed Jenny Lewis last year and she likened her time in Omaha to summer camp, and yeah, this is the album that most captures that sense. There's a glamour to it that I still find intoxicating 15 years later, this sense that you're hanging out with all your closest friends. I love when albums create the sense of belonging

was never a huge fan of this band/album but the opener absolutely RIPS. Kinda a BtS/Foo Fighters thing. Rest of the album is wonkier

Just catching up, many xposts but I love the cover connection with the tie at #67 (I haven't heard either but they're on The List).

Their final album, My Heart Has a Wish That You Would Not Go, is more post-rock and my favorite (although I'm in the minority with that opinion).

Aaaahh! Rilo Kiley was my number 1! I know there's a lot of debate around the veracity of its emo musicality, and while I kind of get that, everything about its mood, tone and lyrics epitomise the genre for me. I love that the entire thing is just this gigantic reflection on fear of mortality and identity dysphoria. Aaaaah Jenny Lewis. <3

oh i listened to part of that three mile pilot record before voting but never finished it. what i heard was v impressive

Been out all day, so miles behind but yay Pinegrove/FOB/TBS/Aereogramme. I forgot to nominate my favourite Saves the Day album (Can't Slow Down), so they didn't make it onto my ballot in the end. Pinegrove was my highest 21st Century entry (at #11). I totally didn't get it last year and then I saw them live and it's been on a loop ever since, I think it's pretty much perfect.

Sleep And Release was MY number one! Lovely synchronicity. Also voted for Rilo Kiley because tt p much made me (also played it for me and it was rly good & emotional)

among all the other reasons to thank this poll i have to give it credit for getting me into the blood brothers years after i dismissed them as not my thing

I'd argue it's one of the only great political albums to come out of the Bush administration. Absolutely brutal, incredible stuff
