Folie à Deux is def my FOB keeper but the hooks from "Sugar" and "A Little Less Sixteen Candles..." still get in my head sometimes.

I never bought this Against Me album but I have really enjoyed it whenever I listened. Hits my classic indie rock buttons.

my impression that stump dislikes cork tree is from a very old interview he did with absolutepunk (?) right before infinity where he said he liked approx three songs on the album (i'm guessing those two and "dance dance"). i like about six myself

Apparently I sat in Kathleen's desk in History class, or so Ms. Johnson told me.

it's impossible to confirm this bc absolutepunk is long gone xp

i love that i am just talking about my high school in the emo thread, so unrelated and yet so wholly appropriate

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:01 (seven years ago) link

I love this Ottawa high school talk. I was last year of OAC at Canterbury.

jmm, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:02 (seven years ago) link

I like "XO" and uhhh

count me in on the Kathleen Edwards lovefest

pffft, no way. i guess discount probably won't sneak in but i'm expecting jejune, the anniversary, rainer maria (maybe)

I'd be shocked if Rainer Maria makes the cut. They seem like the quintessential "I thought you were gonna vote for them" band

Evan R, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:05 (seven years ago) link

ditto the Kathleen Edwards love

Evan R, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:05 (seven years ago) link

I almost did but they got cut because I couldnt actually recall the album i liked

xxp yeah Rainer Maria suffer from not having one clearly great album.

One thing I always respected about them is that their attempted mass appeal/spotlight album Long Knives Draw was much better than many other emo acts' of their era. Good album

Evan R, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:11 (seven years ago) link

fantastic album

Odysseus, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:12 (seven years ago) link

great album, not emo imo

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:12 (seven years ago) link

thats why i figured i couldnt vote for it

Odysseus, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:13 (seven years ago) link

LTIU is probably a top 10 album of all time for me. I couldn't vote for it either

that's our first #1 vote i think

Mordy, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:27 (seven years ago) link

this record is not emo at all imo but coincided with me listening to a lot of emo so fine, it's also home to the lyric "and i feel nothing" which is pretty emo

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:27 (seven years ago) link

yay! :)

Evan R, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:27 (seven years ago) link

also maybe a little welcome based on the most recent discussion itt?

Mordy, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:27 (seven years ago) link

it's an album about worrying a lot and relocating to Omaha to hang out with emo people, I don't know how much more emo it gets

Evan R, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:28 (seven years ago) link

in FORM evan. in form

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:31 (seven years ago) link

fuck, pinkerton is gonna be #1 nooooo

billstevejim, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:31 (seven years ago) link

this rilo kiley band is indie rock 2 the bone

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:33 (seven years ago) link

lol yeah it doesn't fit all the conventions, but listen to that group chorus on "With Arms Outstretched."

Incredible album. Can't believe it came out in 2002; I remember picking it up the day it came out and listening to it on a CD walkman

Evan R, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:33 (seven years ago) link

it's def an album i have Cried to. Often

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:34 (seven years ago) link

also true of the other inevitable indie rock interloper the meadowlands

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:34 (seven years ago) link

at least ppl in the same circle were also listening to rilo kiley at the time? as i remember it anyway? the wrens as much as i love them were just a whole different thing. that said i think i gave the meadowlands like a #30 on my ballot lol

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:36 (seven years ago) link

It feels very of a piece with Paramore's s/t album, not just because of the easy comparison of two charismatic, fashionable redhead singers, but of how it uses one very strong personality and songwriting voice to bind together all sorts of different genre detours

Evan R, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:36 (seven years ago) link

Anyway most people must not consider it emo b/c that's the only thing that explains it placing so low (I just revisited my ballot and saw I left it off, but in hindsight I'd place it high on my list)

Evan R, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:38 (seven years ago) link

def not emo for me. sounds good tho

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:39 (seven years ago) link

few albums capture me being super sad in college as well as execution

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:41 (seven years ago) link

you say i choose sadness
that it never once has chosen me
maybe you're right

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:42 (seven years ago) link

with arms outstretched is awesome great campfire singalong song

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:42 (seven years ago) link

Interviewed Jenny Lewis last year and she likened her time in Omaha to summer camp, and yeah, this is the album that most captures that sense. There's a glamour to it that I still find intoxicating 15 years later, this sense that you're hanging out with all your closest friends. I love when albums create the sense of belonging
