must be avril lavigne tied with rites of spring?

Odysseus, Monday, 6 March 2017 20:00 (seven years ago) link

never heard this 30-06. it's good

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Monday, 6 March 2017 20:00 (seven years ago) link

Can't wait to start listening to these! Spottie otm re: Existentialism on Prom Night chorus. 'Sing like you think no one's listening' is a refrain I have sung frequently for the last 12 years. That SR album was pretty high on my ballot - beautiful.

tangenttangent, Monday, 6 March 2017 20:00 (seven years ago) link

yeah i love that straylight run made it, that album was part of my great emo conversion

i voted for two of those records

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Monday, 6 March 2017 20:07 (seven years ago) link

i voted for one of them :p the fireside! that was a wonderful discovery from the nominations.

Mordy, Monday, 6 March 2017 20:08 (seven years ago) link

lol

I want to change my display name (dan m), Monday, 6 March 2017 20:08 (seven years ago) link

i prefer take off your pants and the self-titled to enema

Mordy, Monday, 6 March 2017 20:09 (seven years ago) link

i disagree enema is a perfect pop blast

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Monday, 6 March 2017 20:10 (seven years ago) link

that isn't "perfect pop" with square quotes

the katydid will be torn apart, and its dismembered body carried back to the bivouac

mookieproof, Monday, 6 March 2017 20:13 (seven years ago) link

So happy that Fireside made it!

ArchCarrier, Monday, 6 March 2017 20:14 (seven years ago) link

enema is also like the shiniest punk record on earth

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Monday, 6 March 2017 20:17 (seven years ago) link

you put an 'n' instead of a 't'

Odysseus, Monday, 6 March 2017 20:25 (seven years ago) link

Yes, Fireside!

Marty8501 (Marty Innerlogic), Monday, 6 March 2017 20:33 (seven years ago) link

Last time I heard Enema was when I started dating my wife. It still sounds good some fifteen years later.

ArchCarrier, Monday, 6 March 2017 20:37 (seven years ago) link

Whoa, thanks, other two voters.

My Body's Made of Crushed Little Evening Stars (Sund4r), Monday, 6 March 2017 20:38 (seven years ago) link

i guess i better listen to this

Mordy, Monday, 6 March 2017 20:41 (seven years ago) link

The Fireside record was a cool discovery from the noms thread for me too but it just missed my ballot in the end.

Gavin, Leeds, Monday, 6 March 2017 20:44 (seven years ago) link

this next one is the last one for today and also TOO LOW

Bivouac too low! Would have been my number 1 to be honest if I hadn't dropped the ball.

Shotmaker is also too low.

husked, tonal wails (irrational), Monday, 6 March 2017 21:00 (seven years ago) link

What a joy this thread is already. Thanks for doing this. Hoping the "too low" comments continue well into the top 10

Evan R, Monday, 6 March 2017 21:00 (seven years ago) link

haha we did it sund4r! shotmaker makes the cut

xp too low maybe but given how relatively unknown they are it's great to see it place

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Monday, 6 March 2017 21:01 (seven years ago) link

Better too low comments than too high. (I've refrained from 1 so far haha)

husked, tonal wails (irrational), Monday, 6 March 2017 21:04 (seven years ago) link

I can't refrain! Dashboard TOO LOW definitely! This was my #5. Acknowledge that TPYHCTFTM is probably a better album, but this was released at the height of my emo discovery and I recorded every track on tape for the car and would insist on getting my mum to drive further than she ever needed to so that I would keep getting to sing it in the car. Love absolutely every track.

tangenttangent, Monday, 6 March 2017 21:08 (seven years ago) link

i can never remember the difference on those first few Dashboard albums tbf. Had to go back last week and listen to each one to be able to place them in my ballot somewhat correctly. In 2003 I just had a single mp3 cd with all the songs from each album plus some from the mtv unplugged release.

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Monday, 6 March 2017 21:08 (seven years ago) link

I'm in the opposite boat. Granted my tastes are pretty specific, but I don't dig 80% of these albums at all. I'm pretty excited to see whether or not that trend carries through the rest of the list

Evan R, Monday, 6 March 2017 21:11 (seven years ago) link

Cause now that I can see you,
I don't think you're worth a second glance.

this is my second favorite dashboard album and it's not as fully realized or complete like places but it's still chockfull of great melodies, sing-alongs, clever lines, etc. it was #15 on my ballot.

Mordy, Monday, 6 March 2017 21:15 (seven years ago) link

Those couple of records get mixed in my head. Twas the audiogalaxy era and I didn't have anything of theirs on album at the time, just random songs and whatever albums my wife played.

husked, tonal wails (irrational), Monday, 6 March 2017 21:16 (seven years ago) link

this is the one w/ their one radio hit (not counting their contribution to the spiderman sdtrk)

Mordy, Monday, 6 March 2017 21:16 (seven years ago) link

― Evan R,

No idea what you are into but I think the top 50 of the poll will be dominated by the big pop albums interspersed by some of the big 90s names

Odysseus, Monday, 6 March 2017 21:17 (seven years ago) link

yea

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Monday, 6 March 2017 21:18 (seven years ago) link

kerr are you going to whine in all mediums throughout the entire duration of this poll or just today?

Mordy, Monday, 6 March 2017 21:19 (seven years ago) link

Hands Down at Reading 2006 was incredible. Never since been so into a singalong on that scale.

tangenttangent, Monday, 6 March 2017 21:22 (seven years ago) link

dashboard is the best singalong artist. i've only seen him in smaller venues but it's extraordinarily cathartic singing along w/ these songs w/ a bunch of strangers. i saw them a few months ago in philly and it was such a great show.

Mordy, Monday, 6 March 2017 21:24 (seven years ago) link

yeah its just belter after belter

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Monday, 6 March 2017 21:27 (seven years ago) link

(who's kerr?)

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Monday, 6 March 2017 21:27 (seven years ago) link

odysseus - he can be a chronic complainer but he's been moaning in this chat on fb all day about how this poll will be too poppy for his tastes and now he's whining on the thread. i guess whining is apropos to the pop punk genre but i feel like it's really not in the spirit of emo which should be more sincere + devastated than snot-nosed and bratty.

Mordy, Monday, 6 March 2017 21:30 (seven years ago) link

oh... well at least it's mostly relegated to FB then.

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Monday, 6 March 2017 21:32 (seven years ago) link

So jealous of that Dashboard gig. Praying for an international tour.

Amazing cover image itt btw!

tangenttangent, Monday, 6 March 2017 21:38 (seven years ago) link

I don't like a lot of the pop stuff either but idc if it places high

I want to change my display name (dan m), Monday, 6 March 2017 21:42 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, I've never seen a show with such loud cathartic singing along as when I saw Dashboard in Seattle.

husked, tonal wails (irrational), Monday, 6 March 2017 21:43 (seven years ago) link

The chorus of Quicksand's "Head to Wall" is a great example of how post hardcore and emo can blur

I want to change my display name (dan m), Monday, 6 March 2017 21:51 (seven years ago) link

Wow, this Pedro the Lion stuff is lovely. Great with the build and a twinge of dark folk in there...so nice.

tangenttangent, Monday, 6 March 2017 21:53 (seven years ago) link

I always considered post-hardcore to be a subsidiary of emo as much as of punk, even when it shares almost nothing in common with the sound...but that might just be because I came to like both at around the same time. They have pretty similar followings too imo... Different days/different t-shirts.
