This is where I admit that I never really gave Cap n Jazz a fair chance before but they sound great right now. (I know I heard all of An Alphabetapolothology in a car one time in 1998 and didn't click with it.)

Speaking of Cap Jazz - I didn't love the album but I'm listening to American Football now and this is def more my kind of thing

two songs in and a. bemis is as full-on as I've always heard and b. these are some serious fuckin guitars

he sings like he's learned how to from imitating/singing along to someone else but I can't tell who

the opening to "the writhing south" was kinda offputting but the chorus is pretty mega

again the guitar breaks are RIDICULOUS wtf why does no one ever talk about this

why is it that only one man bands have audible bass parts

tbh some/most of these songs could use an edit but they also all seem to feature at least one really distinctive/great part

I think "Every Man Needs a Molly" is my favourite.

"spidersong" is the first one I'm not sure about, which is impressive

the way "an orgy of critics" just becomes a totally different song for about 30 seconds made me freak the fuck out, likee instead of a middle 8 it has a middle song

I think part of the difficulty of the idea of the emo poll is the nostalgia factor, which makes it difficult to pick up new favorites to vote for the way you could with eg one of the year end polls. mostly you just end up deepening your love for records you already adore (as has been the case with me + the weatherthans, juno, fireworks). but I could see throwing this a few points.

it's super patchy and at one point real smdh ("died a jew") but it had several of their best songs and it's just generally weird that this really ambitious emo double album exists

honestly I had to switch to something else midway through the first disc

lol

but I did take a moment to specially listen to "died a jew" and woooooow so he's one of those "needs someone at his side to tell him no sometimes but never had one" dudes huh
