the pull track is just a sped up version of thinking plague's "organism". speaking of which thinking plague has a new one set to drop tomorrow. their last few records were so cheery! i'm sure it will be an upbeat and uplifting experience.

increasingly bonkers (rushomancy), Thursday, 9 February 2017 12:57 (seven years ago) link

ugh seriously half this record is just chunks of _in this life_ sped up. i don't know what the other half is but i'm betting jaikel didn't have anything to do with creating it. jaikel better hope steve feigenbaum never finds out about his "album".

increasingly bonkers (rushomancy), Thursday, 9 February 2017 13:02 (seven years ago) link

yeah wtf

ultros ultros-ghali, Thursday, 9 February 2017 14:23 (seven years ago) link

I mean I'm not against sampling/manipulation as a form of making music but this is just zero-effort nonsense

ultros ultros-ghali, Thursday, 9 February 2017 14:24 (seven years ago) link

ha wow! in the age of vaporwave I am getting used to barely altered varispeed appropriation and still somehow having it feel legitimately 'authored' but for whatever reason, this guy putting his name on this seems notable for moral slippage

just happy to be on a board with members that can trainspot Thinking Plague in a 90 minute window, maybe the alt reality where 'In This Life' is standard album that every prog rock fan venerates is real after all

Milton Parker, Friday, 10 February 2017 01:12 (seven years ago) link

/is _a_ standard album

Milton Parker, Friday, 10 February 2017 01:13 (seven years ago) link

Happy Valley band is quite funny for those two songs but not sure if I could take a whole album of it

two weeks pass...

Heard some of this on Freakzone the other day and am curious to investigate, but looks like I'd have to commit too much time to actually listen to the whole thing

http://www.waywordsandmeansigns.com/

"Waywords and Meansigns: Recreating Finnegans Wake [in its whole wholume] set James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake to music. The whole book! With readers and musicians from around the world, Waywords and Meansigns is simultaneously an unabridged audiobook as well as musical adaptation. Our 2017 May 4 release will feature 100 musicians, readers and artists from 15 different countries."

Camaraderie at Arms Length, Monday, 10 April 2017 17:58 (seven years ago) link

i've got that. it's fun, and some of it is great, tho some doesn't feel especially interesting as a reading. it's the Wake tho, it probably makes as much sense to bathe in it ambient-style as it does listen with rapt attention

Raul Chamgerlain (Noodle Vague), Monday, 10 April 2017 18:02 (seven years ago) link

"not especially interesting as a reading" was a clunky way of saying some of it isn't so much music as bare-bones reading

Raul Chamgerlain (Noodle Vague), Monday, 10 April 2017 18:03 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, the bit he played was an experimental sound collage, and it was only afterwards that I realized it was Finnegans Wake, think it was a clip from the new edition which is coming out in May, sound like they've been working on it a lot.

You can play a clip here, if you scroll down to 'Waywords And Meansigns'

Do we have a rolling thread for retro, completely un-experimental, electronic music? Y'know: the sort of thing released by Polytechnic Youth, Castles In Space, A Year In The Country and the like.

Jeff W, Sunday, 28 January 2018 21:33 (six years ago) link

some great news!
fire toolz vs nmesh :D
https://www.tinymixtapes.com/news/fire-toolz-release-interbeing-remix-collection-suite-309-shares-nmeshs-absolute-cut-throat-remi

might just start a thread for time travel, noiselectronic, experimental, bleep bloops, vaporwave, orange milk 2k18?

nxd, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 15:00 (six years ago) link

it would need to be distinct enough from the 'experimental electronic' thread already in play but yes!

imago, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 15:06 (six years ago) link

what is orange milk?

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Tuesday, 30 January 2018 15:08 (six years ago) link

label responsible for death's dynamic shroud, giant claw, loads of other exciting US electronica. is elysia crampton on them?

imago, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 15:09 (six years ago) link

ah! thank you

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Tuesday, 30 January 2018 15:10 (six years ago) link

crampton isn't but they're still great

imago, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 15:10 (six years ago) link

xps good shout i'll remove the electronic bit

nxd, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 15:13 (six years ago) link

Hmmm yeah, I guess I think of Orange Milk as being a little less functional, more cartoon-y, maximal, and heavier on internet detritus collage than what I'm into personally. Cool that they seem to have really found an audience though.

change display name (Jordan), Tuesday, 30 January 2018 16:28 (six years ago) link

sounds like a description of haord music!

nxd, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 16:28 (six years ago) link

what makes Orange Milk different from the other dozen labels that release giant claw, death dynamic shroud.wmv etc?

brimstead, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 16:32 (six years ago) link

not too much i guess, i didn't put too much thought into the thread name but shudda outlined genres rather than labels in hindsight

nxd, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 17:18 (six years ago) link
