Hmm.. How about Ludwig Van Beethoven? :)

"I love him. Especially his poems!"

the correct answer is the ramones

It seems from the above thread that Marvin Gaye is the winner. At least if only ILM counts.(I mean, there are probably thousands of rascists out there who refuse to like anything made by someone who isn't white, but if we keep to ILM, then Marvin Gaye may well be the winner)

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 19 April 2007 07:41 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't like Marvin Gaye. I tolerate his stuff when it's coming through a nearby speaker, but I don't own any of his records and wouldn't buy any.

unperson, Thursday, 19 April 2007 10:50 (sixteen years ago) link

fuck the ramones

StanM, Thursday, 19 April 2007 10:57 (sixteen years ago) link

So we can removed Gaye and Ramones too then (I am not exactly a fan of The Ramones, but they're OK, so I wouldn't veto them)

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 19 April 2007 11:31 (sixteen years ago) link

How about the old blues legends, like Robert Johnson or Skip James or Mississippi John Hurt? We kinda owe them.

the Dirt, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:06 (sixteen years ago) link

Beethoven's a good bet too, but I suspect you'd start a flame war with that on a classical music board

the Dirt, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:07 (sixteen years ago) link

I owe them nothing. Though Mississippi John Hurt was very good as the Elephant Man.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Who doesn't like Kraftwerk?

the next grozart, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:09 (sixteen years ago) link

No old blues legends for me. I don't like blues.

(And I think someone has already vetoed Kraftwerk upthread, no?)

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Someone said the closest they got to Kraftwerk was Afrika Bambaataa but they didn't say they didn't like Kraftwerk.

No chance on agreeing on any non-white acts with the Geirgobbler around!

Joe Jackson?

x-post for j. jackson - no way!

call all destroyer, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:37 (sixteen years ago) link

No chance on agreeing on any non-white acts with the Geirgobbler around!

I am not going to veto Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, Arthur Lee, Kele Okereke, Earth Wind & Fire, Four Tops, Diana Ross/Supremes nor Seal.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Results 1 - 10 of 10 for "i hate crowded house".

Crowded House wins :)

Kiss from a rose for song of the century

the Dirt, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Your search - "i hate gangway" - did not match any documents.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, I wouldn't exactly rank Seal that high, but he is OK, and considerably better than any hip-hop act ever.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:44 (sixteen years ago) link

i think the answer to this is "The Field"

modestmickey, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:45 (sixteen years ago) link

for at least a few more weeks, that is

Who?

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:46 (sixteen years ago) link

adam and his ants band

Alan, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Adam & The Ants were just about image, not music.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:48 (sixteen years ago) link

i think the answer to this is "The Field"

Can think of quite a few people that will hate that once they hear it. Sounds okay if you like electronica though

the Dirt, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:51 (sixteen years ago) link

I dunno; I keep getting these indistinguishable promos in the mail - the Field, Field Music, Freezing Field etc. - and they all sound like bad Beta Band impersonations.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:57 (sixteen years ago) link

i'm sure i remember some music from the adam & his ants band

Alan, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:58 (sixteen years ago) link

The "music" all sounded alike and was generally very tuneless.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:59 (sixteen years ago) link

I dunno; I keep getting these indistinguishable promos in the mail - the Field, Field Music, Freezing Field etc. - and they all sound like bad Beta Band impersonations.

You are, I think, confusing them with Fields.

braveclub, Thursday, 19 April 2007 12:59 (sixteen years ago) link

lol. that's a thread in itself - bad bands with "field" in the name

just spitballing... Sonic Youth? Prince?

the Dirt, Thursday, 19 April 2007 13:07 (sixteen years ago) link

The "music" all sounded alike and was generally very tuneless.

yet infinitely more entertaining than today's popular AOR bands.

blueski, Thursday, 19 April 2007 13:08 (sixteen years ago) link

There are no popular AOR bands today.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 19 April 2007 13:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Os Mutantes?

Interestingly, if you google "I Hate Kraftwerk", most results are duplicates of someone saying "I Hate Kraftwerk... Not!"

the next grozart, Thursday, 19 April 2007 13:18 (sixteen years ago) link

the only proper google hit for "i hate adam and the ants" is class:

A similar game to kippering is the game of 'Aaaaah'! To win a round of Aaaah, simply get someone to correct a blatantly false statement. For example;

A and B are listenind to the radio. Wham!'s hit single Careless Whisper begins playing.
A : I hate Adam and the Ants
B : This isn't Adam and...
A : Aaaaah!

see? nobody.

m the g, Thursday, 19 April 2007 13:22 (sixteen years ago) link

The Field, Fields, it all blurs into one shade of Hampshire puce.

Not like the good old days of the mighty FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM!!!!!!

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 19 April 2007 13:23 (sixteen years ago) link

I dunno; I keep getting these indistinguishable promos in the mail - the Field, Field Music, Freezing Field etc. - and they all sound like bad Beta Band impersonations.

Really, if you can't hear the difference between The Field and Field Music, maybe its time to hang this whole "music" thing up, no?

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 19 April 2007 13:23 (sixteen years ago) link

In some cases, life really is too short.

Field Mice, though, they were a nifty combo.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 19 April 2007 13:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Whigfield?

NickB, Thursday, 19 April 2007 13:28 (sixteen years ago) link

The Whigfields of the Nephilim would be awesome.

NickB, Thursday, 19 April 2007 13:29 (sixteen years ago) link

Gracie Fields of the Nephilim.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 19 April 2007 13:31 (sixteen years ago) link

There are no popular AOR bands today.

Yes there are. Any guitar music popular with people over 18 qualifies in this argument. Adam & His Ants are better than all of them.

blueski, Thursday, 19 April 2007 13:32 (sixteen years ago) link

How about Field Mob, Field Day or Fieldwork? That word is starting to lose its meaning.
