Eight or so indifferent "reunion" albums in 2/3 years will do that.

not sure where this "beyonce NEVER does festivals" narrative is coming from, she did glastonbury in 2011

Gotcha. yeah seeing GBV in eye-straining font bummed me out

flappy bird, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 20:22 (seven years ago) link

Whitney, Honne, King Sunny Ade, Shura, Guided by Voices, Lee Fields in the small section is sad. Then again I don' know who any of these 'headliners' on the first three lines are: Mac Miller, Steve Angello, Big Gigantic, The Head and the Heart, Tory Lanez, Marshmello, Lil Uzi Vert, Kehlani.

dance cum rituals (Moka), Wednesday, 4 January 2017 20:34 (seven years ago) link

Their names all sound like they live in a frat house.

dance cum rituals (Moka), Wednesday, 4 January 2017 20:35 (seven years ago) link

token indie rock dude, idk, shitty EDM jam band, corny pop-folk, sing-y rapper, idk, rapper, r&b singer i think?

sam jax sax jam (Jordan), Wednesday, 4 January 2017 20:38 (seven years ago) link

oh wait i mean token indie rock dude frat rapper turned Stones Throw-ish rapper. i sometimes confuse mac miller and mac demarco.

sam jax sax jam (Jordan), Wednesday, 4 January 2017 20:40 (seven years ago) link

Mac DeMarco's on the bill too! Same day, same line on the poster even!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 20:46 (seven years ago) link

Let's hear their top songs on spotify:

Mac Miller - My Favorite Part
Mall neo-soul. It's not that bad but no idea why so many people vibes to this... sounds inoffensive.

Steve Angello - Show Me Love
Ew! What a horrid Robin S EDM remix. Had to skip... fuck whoever listens to this.

Big Gigantic - All of Me
Jazz-hop with some dubstep thrown in there... this also sounds annoyingly watered down.

The Head and the Heart - All We Ever Knew
Hahaha you're kidding me. This sounds like the type of songs corny people put on their wedding videos.

Tory Lanez - LUV
Ah, this is alright. Kind of like the Dancehall Hip Hop sound Mad Decent has been pushing for the past years. 128M listens for this song on Spotify! Whoa guess it was huge in the US.

Marshmello - Alone
Kind of like the french house/trap that Porter Robinson and Madeon do much better. This also sounds annoying but I guess as a live show with videos and lights it could be interesting.

Lil Uzi Vert - You Was Right
This is nice... I suppose Trap is the US equivalent of Reggaeton down here in latinamerica in terms of popularity? I like it but I'd get bored of a full concert of this style.

Kehlani - Gangsta
R&B similar to FKA Twigs.

I heard about that making the rounds yesterday -- I thought people knew he was an asshole already? That's been my impression for at least this century.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 5 January 2017 17:44 (seven years ago) link

i mean anything w/ that kind of money behind it probably has some shady dudes running it but it's just nice to have an event i object to (for no personal reason other than i find festivals and the summer circuit stupid) be explicitly tied to Horror

ein Sexmonster (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Thursday, 5 January 2017 17:49 (seven years ago) link

yeah, well known that anschutz is terrible. boycotting his stuff would mean boycotting most forms of entertainment i think?

tylerw, Thursday, 5 January 2017 18:05 (seven years ago) link

He might be anti gay but he is not anti-money. 4 of the headliners are gay (empire of the sun, new order, porter robinson, madeon) and I'd say at least 90% of the lineup is pro-gay.

dance cum rituals (Moka), Thursday, 5 January 2017 18:11 (seven years ago) link

I think Romy from the XX is gay too?

Missed Coachella this year for the first time in ages. Currently watching Bon Iver on the stream do that Mike and the Mechanics shit and not regretting my choice.

yesca, Sunday, 16 April 2017 06:15 (seven years ago) link

Random thoughts: Coachella is best from the couch. I can't believe people like Father John Misty.

brotherlovesdub, Sunday, 16 April 2017 14:27 (seven years ago) link

that's not nice to mike and the mechanics

maura, Sunday, 16 April 2017 15:18 (seven years ago) link

I watched a bit of the Future Islands set last night. Coachella really is better at home! We're finally at a point where these live streams are reliable & high-quality. Except when the sound goes out at the actual festival.

flappy bird, Monday, 17 April 2017 19:35 (seven years ago) link

I watched a bit of Future's set from my couch at home. Am guessing the backing video screen (that one point featured large female butt cheeks) seemed a bit different live there, depending where in the crowd one was situated.
