Madonna: Bitch got mad flow

I remember it being one of the worst songs that any human being has ever recorded.

I had the pleasure of hearing the extended version of Slow in a club recently and it sounded impeccable so I've went for that but it could be a number of things here. But I absolutely never ever need to hear Mr Brightside ever again.

Good stuff sprinkled throughout but the top six is pretty unstoppable.
― i need microsoft installed on my desktop, can you help (Old Lunch), Thursday, 8 December 2016 19:36 (seven years ago) link
I really want to vote for Ted Leo, but that top ten reads like the ten most significant songs of the decade.

fuck Ignition (Remix) and fuck R. Kelly, btw

Ignition (Remix) for the win!
― van smack, Friday, 9 December 2016 01:43 (seven years ago) link
actually ignition remix is a good song
― k3vin k., Friday, 9 December 2016 01:54 (seven years ago) link
my favs are "maps", "in da club", then prob "ignition", "you don't know my name", "toxic".....lots of great songs here. good list
― k3vin k., Friday, 9 December 2016 01:56 (seven years ago) link
Ignition remix sounds like a fast food commercial or something
― a but (brimstead), Friday, 9 December 2016 02:12 (seven years ago) link
Voted for "Seven Nation Army"
― Spiritual Hat Minimalism (Sund4r), Friday, 9 December 2016 02:18 (seven years ago) link
no idea what to vote for here. maybe "slow" bc it doesn't have to do much to be perfect
― who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Friday, 9 December 2016 02:39 (seven years ago) link
esp given the competition, Jens Lekman showing up twice is pretty offensive

2003 was insane.
― Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 9 December 2016 06:23 (seven years ago) link
it really is bizarre how crappy 2001 and 2002 are compared to this list. And presumably 2004 as well.
― skip, Friday, 9 December 2016 06:44 (seven years ago) link
just wait til you see 2009

Hey Ya! and Ignitition (Remix) are undoubtedly among the greatest singles released in my lifetime - but I feel like I've kinda worn them out. Crazy in Love is the gift that keeps on giving and gets my vote, strong contenders include:
12 705 Blur - Out of Time17 1174 Radiohead - There There
Slow is a decent Kylie single but too... slow
― niels, Friday, 9 December 2016 10:13 (seven years ago) link
Try the Chemical Brothers remix, probably the best one they did.
― nashwan, Friday, 9 December 2016 11:50 (seven years ago) link
feel like "Fix Up, Look Sharp" is getting a little overlooked so I voted for that one. there are a bunch of classics here though.
incidentally, I'd never heard "La Ritournelle" before. holy shit, Radiohead bit the fuck out of that song for "Reckoner."

I mentioned it upthread and also on my blog when it was active back in 2007... got lots of angry emails and comments. It was a post dedicated to the ripoffs/influenced of every track of In Rainbows.
Another one I remember:
Jigsaw falling into place = surfing the warm machine by Kashmir.
One of the members of Kashmir even commented on the post. He was a bit pissed off because I wrote something like "You remember Kashmir? Me neither. But Thom apparently does"

'Strict Machine'

lol @ Mika.
i too have never heard "La Ritournelle" before this poll. great song can almost vote for it but not going to happen.
― Bee OK, Saturday, 10 December 2016 02:31 (seven years ago) link
Rhye also bit "La Ritournelle" for "The Fall" - or at least it seems that way.

obvilusly i meant Moka, not with the i.
― Bee OK, Saturday, 10 December 2016 03:44 (seven years ago) link
yeah "La Riournelle" might be the most ripped off track of the 00s, or at least it belongs on any shortlist

Kashmir made some good records (search: Zitilites), somewhat Radiohead-derivative, so it's interesting that you hear Surfing the Warm Industry in Jigsaw Falling into Places
do you have a link to that blog post?
― niels, Saturday, 10 December 2016 16:02 (seven years ago) link
Or at least post the hate mail?
― van smack, Saturday, 10 December 2016 17:41 (seven years ago) link
Great year, although I think the decade was quite strong musically up until about 2008.

I stopped paying the dreamhost service so my blog got taken down and the comments don't load properly anymore. Let me get home and see if I can find a working link.

Might be well worth checking if it crops up on the internet archive.

I made the terrible comment that reckoner drums are better than ritournelle. Tony allen's drumming is better and I see the error of my ways now.
