Fat White Family in TheQ's top ten is sort of like ... did someone lose a bet or something?

calzino, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 12:12 (seven years ago) link

or maybe it is just typical TQ. But jeez, spare me ...

calzino, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 12:14 (seven years ago) link

I generally like the Quietus but some of the music they go absolutely apeshit for I find pretty poor - I don't get what's so great about Arabrot either but they're at least better than fucking Fat White Family.

At least their token black metal album's interesting though.

ultros ultros-ghali, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 12:15 (seven years ago) link

both of their token black metal albums are fairly good ;)

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 12:16 (seven years ago) link

xps the track listing on SsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSs is a delight too :)

nxd, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 12:33 (seven years ago) link

Our three token black metal albums are all very good if you ask me.

Doran, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 12:35 (seven years ago) link

xxp I was talking about JG actually I missed Oranssi Pazuzu which is higher than I would've expected!

(I was being tongue in cheek calling them token btw)

ultros ultros-ghali, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 12:40 (seven years ago) link

gnaw their tongues is p good too, am guessing that's the third

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 13:00 (seven years ago) link

oh it's a new gnaw their tongues! oh em gee etc

Nice to see an album released by The Quietus Phonographic Corporation made it to #24 on their year-end list.

8. Ian William Craig - Centres

I've been trying this one off and on since it came out but it's just not connecting. Loved his first two. I guess I'm put off by the vocals being higher in the mix this time around.

by the way this is not some kind of "voices green and purple" thing, this is LITERALLY BEES

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 14:53 (seven years ago) link

I keep meaning to listen to that bee thing. There was a liveish surround sound performance of it in the Glade at Glastonbury this year but it was shitting down at the time and I wasn't really in the mood.

76. Noura Mint Seymali - Arbina

From Quietus list and on NPR one too. Seymali and her rockin guitarist husband and band are edging out Bombino for the North African desert music slot on a few lists.

curmudgeon, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:25 (seven years ago) link

King was just on the Quietus list! xp

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:26 (seven years ago) link

king's exclusion from the decibel list was a real head-scratcher

lol

Cosmic Slop, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:50 (seven years ago) link

I didn't think KING existed outside of ILM so to see them on two lists so far is kind of amazing

duped and used by my worst Miss U (President Keyes), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:09 (seven years ago) link

they also got a grammy nomination

maura, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:15 (seven years ago) link

I think King are probably on the Quietus list BECAUSE of the ILM overlap?

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:25 (seven years ago) link

racist much

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:39 (seven years ago) link

go to hell

they're inside my own personal top ten THANKS TO ILX. the quietus is a british magazine whose writers READ ILX. it's not racist to draw the connection for fuck's sake

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:41 (seven years ago) link

Yeah man, remember when Treeship got them booked on Conan?

never understood whiney's long running personal beef with the quietus

Cosmic Slop, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:47 (seven years ago) link

this appears to have nothing to do with The Quietus and everything to do with assuming no one outside of ILX has ever heard of King

¶ (DJP), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:49 (seven years ago) link

yeah, my beef was with imago

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:49 (seven years ago) link

you really are KING of the specious racism accusation

rosenstock deserved to be no. 1 on at least one list

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 17:10 (seven years ago) link

Is there a link for the USA Today?

Kinda surprised how underrepresented the year's big prestige emo albums are on a lot of these lists. But that may just be a reflection of the fact that 2016 was a strong year for a lot of music

Evan R, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 17:17 (seven years ago) link

I'm excited that he's getting so much exposure but also I am concerned about his bound-to-rise anxiety levels lol xp

Why the fuck are the Fat White Family on any of these lists? They're awful. I played with them once and as soon as they got there they asked the promoter where to score crack and then bounced w/o a soundcheck. Their music was horrible.

flappy bird, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 17:20 (seven years ago) link

That sounds kind of like the essence of 2016 to me.

¶ (DJP), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 17:22 (seven years ago) link

fat white family are indeed terrible

Fat White Family
Fat White Family are an English rock band, formed 2011 in Peckham, South London.

Quick facts: Fat White Family, Background information ...
Lead guitarist Saul Adamczewski was previously the frontman of indie-pop band The Metros, which also featured the band's original bass player, Joseph Pancucci-Simpson.

The band, fronted by Southampton born[1] and Huddersfield raised Lias Kaci Saoudi[2] released their debut album Champagne Holocaust in 2013. Their second album Songs for our Mothers was released in 2016.[3][4]
