i like how i grew up in chicago and all the shavons i knew were scary black girls with weaves - then i went to nyu and met all these white girls with blonde hair named shavon too, from ireland. but then later i found out it was spelled differently

shane = rat tail, dirty knees, nascar t-shirt
chad = badly behaved, spoiled brat
amber = dirty
crystal = dirty
brenda = dirty
vanessa = fat

i think maybe a lot of the asians (esp. koreans) who give their children anglo-esque names (on birth or later) are also very often quite religious, so they are names associated with either religious texts or religious leaders.
