the "funny" thing abt this is the republican nominee is actively consorting with actual nazis and every liberal in the world is all if i had been in germany 1933 i wldve stood up to those monsters, given the chance theyre donating money to the nazis

idk I just keep thinking about how someone might have done the landlord a favor if this is one of the buildings leased during campaign season that could really use a remodel
the local obama hq from some years ago (formerly a blockbuster video) got a big old remodel and is now one of my fave restaurants with reclaimed wood and all the 2016 cool restaurant signifiers

if this inspires someone in that county to be a very well-liked republican leader in the future who cites this as the beginning of their bipartisan records then I will enjoy the delicious egg on my face xp

funny thing is almost no trump buildings are actually owned by him these days, the developers just license his name, and now his name is mud, his primary revenue stream is dry

there's an account about drone delivery service called @dronesdelivery that seems to just retweet random shit with the word "drone" in it, including stuff about drone airstrikes killing people in Yemen and stuff that isn't even about drone aircraft at all

I started a rn semi-pro account to try to follow politics and industry news and stuff and occasionally tweet about it and my field in a more mature and less rageful way.

i have one of those but its fn boring, now i only use it to check the feeds of ppl who have blocked me on normal feed
― flopson, Wednesday, 19 October 2016 21:17 (seven years ago) link
yeah so far it's slightly useful in that there are some good specialized journalists and publications that I would probably forget to check on the web but now I just follow through my feed. It's already alerted me to a few stories I was glad to learn about and probably would have missed.

had my first block by someone i actually like (@delong) the other day, p bummed. I think he blocked me because I complained that he was using .@'s and was fucking up every thread he was in. yeesh

If you complain about someone in a petty way while @ing them you'll get blocked yeah

better to feel bummed about the block than to post the a screenshot of it for cheap lols or to prove you somehow "won"

So I'm up to 47 followers, though a few may be bots. Still don't seem to be close to having any reach with my own tweets (as opposed to replies which sometimes get retweeted). Curious at what number of followers you start having decent odds that a good tweet actually spreads (assuming any of my tweets are actually any good).

How many people do you follow MA? There's this twisted logic that accounts that have lots of followers but only follow a handful themselves are seen as more attractive to follow. I didn't believe this to be true at all, but my gf showed me and it really seems to work that way (she has nearly 8000 followers and follows abt 250 herself). I was following over a 1000 accounts at one point, then agreed to put her theory to the test. I brought those 1000 down to, like, 250, having 600 followers myself. Apart from some people unfollowing me for unfollowing them (lol), I did indeed gain more followers, and faster too (770 now).

things that get more followers ime: tweeting a lot; responding to others' tweets; retweeting a lot
― marcos, Friday, 21 October 2016 15:37 (seven years ago) link
Yes, and having some sort of expertise/field you work in, or special interest other than lulz helps as well.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 21 October 2016 15:38 (seven years ago) link
yea almost all my followers are people in my field

this stuff is interesting to me, just the dynamics of all of it, especially since my non-pro account is kind of just a game
― the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Friday, 21 October 2016 15:41 (seven years ago) link
I've gotten a few follow-backs just by targeting accounts that are on the lower end for followers themselves, but that has limited benefit since if those accounts RT you it doesn't get that far
― the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Friday, 21 October 2016 15:42 (seven years ago) link
Are you tweeting with your name or anon? The former is much more appreciated for obvious reasons.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 21 October 2016 15:48 (seven years ago) link
yeah my non-pro is anon. I def see the uphill battle I face with that.
