Best album on Mixmag & Muzik's Best Albums of 1995?

Yeah, despite the awful title that T-Power album is maybe the finest example of those early album-length statements by jungle producers: certainly better than Timeless, and arguably as good as Black Secret Technology. IMO it's particularly good in mixing ambient house and drum & bass in a way few people have managed to do successfully ever since.

(T-Power's 1998 follow-up album, OTOH, was a horrible affair, lifeless and cold and uninspired.)

Despite seeing myself as an underground house and techno snob at the time (I was 18 or 19 so I'll cut myself some slack) I loved that BT album, in all its pompous grandiosity. Just gave it a blast on Spotify while cleaning the loft out and a lot of it is still quite fun.

This was the summer before I left for university and finally discovered ecstasy so there's that too.

I had that dave angel CD but seem to have lost it unfortunately. It came with a sticker. It was really good and I would have liked to have played it again.

yeah the BT album was a lot of fun and I put my cd on earlier this year and still enjoyed it.
I think I still like the albums on the 2 lists that I bought at the time.
Mixmag was also decent at the time until they started doing all the ibiza drug specials akin to mojo and the beatles. I have loads still up the loft of 90s mixmag and muziks I think.

The T-Power album is CAD$1 or more on Bandcamp along with a lot of his other stuff if you need to refresh your memory. Minus the hidden CD tracks though. I dug it at the time... Always remembered Spanners as a 1994 release but apparently it came out in January '95. It was delayed lots wasn't it.

Isn't BST a holy text around here? Today it would be my pick.

In fact I played it earlier as I just got the '08 remaster.

My copy from '95 was a particularly bad pressing, very very quiet. It had good reviews but I think it felt a bit under the radar at the time. I don't remember big press attention maybe the odd half page ad. I wasn't listening to deejays playing DnB at this time so can't really comment on it's club or radio exposure but my guess it wasn't huge.

I voted for The Black Dog.

Vanessa Dauo and Erik Kupper are both deep house / song based. Pretty inoffensive. I remember liking the Vanessa Dauo. Seems like some big name house producer did the music.

Love that Vanessa Daou. Peter Daou produced it and he worked with Danny Tenaglia I seem to remember. Deep house vibes with sleezy erotic lyrics..

I only recently picked up Advent's Elements, a bit long as a double CD/triple album but decent.

While everyone's busy in the other thread posting the entirety of rateyourmusic.com's all-time Top 5000 five LP's at a time, I've been relaxing with Timeless and it still sounds fantastic. 'State of Mind' is really hitting the spot right now, and the epic title track is still a trip. So yeah, Timeless is getting my vote.

The Advent is just one guy, former CJ Bolland collaborator Cisco Ferreira, right? And yeah, Groovypanda is right, it's straight banging techno, not Hardfloor-esque acid. I used to have that album back in the day, but sold it away because it was a bit too blunt for my tastes.

boringly but unquestionably Maxinquaye

It's a great tune, but I was a bit disappointed when I found out what a straightforward reworking of Herb Alpert's "Beyond" it is... It doesn't even tweak the original in clever ways like "The Bomb" does to "Street Player", it's pretty much just a house cover version. And the sleeve still claims it was written by Glenn Underground. (Possibly because he didn't get the clearance for the original tune?)

I only heard Street Player for the first time yesterday, I had no idea it was that song so it raised a smile.

Voted for Cuban Linx, Maxinquaye would be a close second. Strange that Liquid Swords didn't make either list (released too late in the year maybe?).

gave up looking for my double cd of timeless. I think ive lost it maybe in a loan to someone

i succumbed a few months back and bought the single cd edition.
i am holding onto the hope that at some point i will chance upon the 2cd edition at a reasonable price.
that said the single cd edition is still bloody fantastic.

i only recently picked up one of his cds that came out on REKIDS.
as for advent : not sure i have ever been able to make it all the way through both cds in one sitting, as it is rather brutal.
i seem to recall picking it up as it was on the same (sub)label as orbital ?

Why it's almost as if people prefer dance music out of the album context (which is also partly why the magazine lists included such a degree of less dancefloor-orientated stuff).

What I meant was, in 1995 Americans weren't really listening to electronic club music, so those albums would not be familiar to most of them, so they'll vote for the pop and trip-hop stuff that did cross over. And American music, of course.

one track on this is fantastic, so much so that i have forgotten what the rest of the record is like. it has the kind of sleeve you might well pass over when looking in the record shop

Yeah it is - but not fully formed Fatboy Slim. Hi-energy, vaguely latin rhythms, whistles blowing and so on makes it like a proto-Basement Jaxx at times. Pretty good album but not compared to some of the others here.
