Yeah, I don't mind bands sounding like themselves - it's called having a style.
But Neurosis are ferociously fucking boring. Almost as boring as people who go on and on about how emotionally overpowering their ponderous, monolithic songs are. I'm glad Laina got paid to write a full page for The Wire about them, because she's a friend and I like to see friends get paid, but yawn.

I dont always want to read a review by a fan but I wouldnt say I'd want to read a review by a hater either. I thought Laina's review was good.

but yeah it's Neurosis and if you dont like them then its not radically different to whats gone on before so it will change your mind but at the same time it doesn't feel like a retread either.

Penultimate track kind of squanders its promise too. First three are good mind
'Broken Ground' is by far the best track on this for me. I put off listening to it for fear of being underwhelmed but this is pretty decent.
