OutKast or Erykah

Turrican, I've seen you doing the same thing on threads related to Super Furry Animals, Radiohead, Chairlift and The 1975 too. Nobody is saying you're not entitled to an opinion. Obviously, that's why we're all here but the need to get so angry and repeat these opinions over and over. You know you're winding people up and you seem to thrive on that for some reason. I get that you're passionate about the bands you once loved (SFA, Radiohead) but what do you expect to achieve by visiting threads for bands you hate? Do you really think you can convince all the people that love The 1975 that they're wrong? That just isn't going to happen. I don't rate Animal Collective or The National one bit so it's not about "people needing to "get over" the fact that, occasionally, people will not like their favourite artist/album and express that opinion". It's about the constant trolling and how for people who post on here a lot, it's getting tiresome and it seems to be unavoidable now.

Tough call between The Avalanches and Erykah Badu for me.

Brad, I'm not interested in what music writers have to say at the best of times, why on Earth would I become a music writer?

I don't really understand this - surely you are writing about music every time you post to ilm?

idk think of it as a space where you can say "[x band]: classic! amazing drumming!" or "[x band]: sucks! fuck em forever" and at least someone (you) will find it interesting

With the exception of The 1975, I actually like (or have liked) all of those bands/artists. I still like SFA's stuff 1994-2004 and I'm still continuing to follow Radiohead even though I find their last album mostly dull. The Chairlift record was so shockingly awful that I couldn't believe that Brad was praising it, and as for The 1975...
Do you really think you can convince all the people that love The 1975 that they're wrong? That just isn't going to happen.
No, I don't, but I do I think that history will.
I don't think I'm "trolling" at all, to be quite honest with you. All of my opinions could not be any more sincere.

I don't need to do this though, Brad, I already know what I think. This isn't one of your brightest ideas, it's fair to say.
and at least someone (you) will find it interesting
Exactly like your writing, then?

Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. To me one of those formative records that hasn't grown old since I got it 2005.

three animal collective related albums!! but which to choose??
― flappy bird, Thursday, 8 September 2016 03:56 (seven years ago) link
Turrican, your posting wouldn't be so bad if two things:
1) You didn't give such a stock lame retort such as "It's my opinion you don't have to like it!" This is a discussion board. If you sincerely feel this way, you actually have no business posting.
2) You didn't defend such unutterably shite music. You dump on the National and Radiohead, only to defend Rush and the Mars Volta? Seriously, gtfo.
Voted for Untrue because I immediately had remorse not voting for it the first time around. Though Geogaddi, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Hail to the Thief and Medulla are all very enticing choices.

Animal Collective can fuck off, as usual.
i don't know what turrican's been doing on other threads and the subsequent posts here were not top quality, but this statement is neither controversial nor particularly harsh for ilm. polling/ranking every musical unit in existence is probably going to include many things ppl dislike
anyway yeah the correct response is to laugh at the mars volta (never rush, tho, cause they ~rule~)

You dump on the National and Radiohead, only to defend Rush
This seems utterly reasonable to me. Radiohead has some great albums and some not so great ones, The National is duller than dull. Rush, otoh, has many stone cold classics spanning 40 years.

Y'see, over the last couple of years or so, I've actually come to realise that the only opinion I care about when it comes to music is my own. While other people's opinions on a specific artist or song can be interesting, not once does anyone else's opinion on anything musical, positive or negative, threaten to override my own.
might I suggest getting a blog

sounds like the aesthetics of a philosophy freshman encountering the notion of subjectivism or solipsism for the first time
thing is (and sorry for stating the obvious here), arguing for solipsism on anything but an abstract/analytical level is, punnily enough, self-defeating - who are you talking to? why? what is communication?
also, I think whoever made the point was very otm in observing that religious extremists paradoxically seem to lack faith - true believers are at peace with their beliefs - and the same goes for Turrican's tirades: The louder you shout, the less convinced you come across, the style of those posts seem to express doubt in their content
^^perhaps I'm projecting slightly, but lord knows your post read as class A projecting
also, just because it's not unusual to see ilm opinions expressed in offensive/antagonistic style doesn't make it a superb idea
anyway, I'm voting Burial

oh can't we just drop it already the guy is just irritable because he's trying to quit smoking and animal collective is not helping, turrican has plenty of worthwhile things to say on plenty of other threads
besides we're supposed to be talking about arcade fire
