Yup, same reaction here re: "Get Right" vs. this new one.

seven months pass...

I have decided that Futures is my favorite JEW album. Integrity Blues has higher highs but also 3-4 tracks I have no use for.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 17 April 2017 17:21 (seven years ago) link

fav overall?

Spottie, Monday, 17 April 2017 17:27 (seven years ago) link

clarity will basically never be supplanted as my fav, but integrity is prob my second favorite jew album at this point. it's def their dreamiest

for some reason i have found myself in a lot of conversations about this band lately (i didn't even bring them up!)

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Monday, 17 April 2017 17:39 (seven years ago) link

I will say that Integrity Blues' title track almost made me tear up on the train a few days ago

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 17 April 2017 18:21 (seven years ago) link

I think if "Disintegration" and "Shame" made it to Futures it would have been more warmly received, somehow.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 17 April 2017 18:34 (seven years ago) link

"shame" is so good, prob the least ponderous slow song from those sessions

american bradass (BradNelson), Monday, 23 September 2019 12:29 (four years ago) link

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 16 October 2019 23:43 (four years ago) link

"555" probably the closest we'll ever get to a jimmy eat world slow jam

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 16 October 2019 23:50 (four years ago) link

Are JEW and 3EB releasing on the same day?

de-mamba mentality (Spottie), Thursday, 17 October 2019 02:12 (four years ago) link

yes lol

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 17 October 2019 02:36 (four years ago) link

also i'm very impressed by this record. thought it might be a straight-up pop-rock record like bleed american or chase this light, and it sort of is but with dark atmospheric pockets. the last two tracks are a moodshift you almost don't notice happening until it's happened

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 17 October 2019 02:39 (four years ago) link

got my friday night lined up

de-mamba mentality (Spottie), Thursday, 17 October 2019 02:43 (four years ago) link

thinking it’s time for Pitchfork to revisit Bleed American, keep righting Ryan rongs.

xp i love "Work"

billstevejim, Thursday, 17 October 2019 03:03 (four years ago) link

this album is so dope i can't stand it. it's the closet they've gotten to bleed american since bleed american imo

it made my day

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 18 October 2019 16:46 (four years ago) link

perfectly illustrates the melodramatic essence of the song while also being completely ridiculous. mad max tyrant contemplating personal failures

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 18 October 2019 16:47 (four years ago) link

yea it works!

this album is really slick, the songs are there. kinda wish the mix had room to breathe a little but ive felt that way since chase the light.

whole album is very listenable though. back half of the closing track is very ji\m/\m/y eat world.

de-mamba mentality (Spottie), Friday, 18 October 2019 17:56 (four years ago) link

i wasn't ready for goth metal jimmy eat world feat. davey havok on backing vocals

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 18 October 2019 18:08 (four years ago) link

oh wow thats awesome now i hear him on there. that song has so much energy. second listen through the album now and I like every song.

de-mamba mentality (Spottie), Friday, 18 October 2019 18:21 (four years ago) link

i'm doing the thiiiiings that i'm told
every day
every day
every day

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 18 October 2019 23:24 (four years ago) link

this is so good, glad i decided to check it out after seeing a headline about davey havok guesting on a song (which is still sick, but the whole album is great)

their best in a long while

eleven months pass...

if y'all like livestreams they're doing three over the next few months, each covering a different album in their discog. first was tonight, playing surviving, and it fucking whipped ass, and even though it's over you apparently can buy tickets afterward to watch it on demand https://www.jimmyeatworldlive.com/

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 15 January 2021 22:59 (three years ago) link

"congratulations" was like.... even better than i thought it would be

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 15 January 2021 22:59 (three years ago) link

also next few weeks* not months

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 15 January 2021 23:00 (three years ago) link

"congratulations" is one of my favorite running songs of the last few years

ive been enjoying jims youtube series 'pass-through frequencies' where he interviews (mostly) other emo gods. also interviewed flynt flossy.

a nice controlled drift (Spottie), Friday, 15 January 2021 23:18 (three years ago) link

i may buy tickets to those live streams. thx for the heads up.

a nice controlled drift (Spottie), Friday, 15 January 2021 23:27 (three years ago) link

i really like pass-through frequencies too!!

really good discussion of recording surviving, including a story about justin meldal-johnsen driving down hollywood blvd. blasting ratt's out of the cellar and throwing the devil horns

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 16 January 2021 17:42 (three years ago) link

today's the futures show! my least favorite of their major albums but it's gonna rip live

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 29 January 2021 17:16 (three years ago) link

oh now im interested in your JEW album rankings. futures would be up there for me

a nice controlled drift (Spottie), Friday, 29 January 2021 18:41 (three years ago) link

clarity
integrity blues
surviving
bleed american
invented
futures
chase this light
static prevails
damage

futures is just... slightly too dirge-y? it's still great but i kinda lose the thread right after "pain"

never heard the s/t, nothing anyone's said about it makes it seem worth hearing lol

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 29 January 2021 19:38 (three years ago) link

Integrity Blues and Futures are both "tremendous highs, regrettable lows" for me, boringly I think Bleed American is my favorite now

stylish but illegal (Simon H.), Friday, 29 January 2021 19:41 (three years ago) link

wait what are the lows on futures!?

a nice controlled drift (Spottie), Friday, 29 January 2021 19:54 (three years ago) link

i dont really care for just tonight but thats about it

a nice controlled drift (Spottie), Friday, 29 January 2021 19:54 (three years ago) link

"drugs or me" and "night drive" do not completely work for me and never have. i still listen to them all the time lol

i'm expecting the live set to change my mind about this tbh
