POLL With It - OASIS (ILM artist poll #78) --- The results thread

Don't mind the b-sides on this, but "Roll With It" was very close to my "worst" pick. Just such a honking, hectoring attempt at a motivational anthem.

it didn't make my ballot, so i sort of agree with you.

The Mark & Lard parody is good, but the actual Oasis song is terrible.

"Roll With It" was an okay song when I first heard it on Morning Glory, but I learned to hate it more after learning that it was released as the lead single for the album in the UK.

it's probably my least favorite song on the album after the title track

Contrary to the track listing and clarified on subsequent releases (including The Masterplan), "I Am The Walrus" was not actually recorded at the Glasgow Cathouse, but at a conference for Sony music executives - the Gleaneagles Hotel Sony Seminar - who had gathered to hear Creation Records' new signings. Noel Gallagher stated that the band loved this particular live recording but were mortified to learn that it was made during a rehearsal at a corporate event. The band instead picked a venue from their tour schedule at which they had performed a similar sounding version, and added crowd noise taken from a Faces bootleg CD, in a bid to make it seem like an authentic tour recording.

Sort of amazed Don't Look Back In Anger isn't there. Do people not like it?

I'm very surprised, because it's one of Oasis' best singles packages of that period, with 'Underneath The Sky', 'Step Out' and their best cover version ('Cum On Feel The Noize') on the B-sides. I think 'Don't Look Back In Anger' is a miles better song than 'Wonderwall', too. Always did.

Having said that, though, the 'Wonderwall' single is also one of their better singles packages: 'Round Are Way', 'The Masterplan' and the full version of 'The Swamp Song' on the B-sides.

Those that voted for the 'Live Forever' single were probably voting for the song and not the single. Aside from the lead track, it doesn't have much else to offer.

I tried to listen to BHN yesterday. oh what a mistake...
I was depressed, bored and exhausted after a few tracks and couldn't even finish it (but I made sure to check at least a part of all the songs).
it sounds terrible, the songs are terrible... awful.
I saw an interview of NG saying when they were signed, he had already written all the songs for the first 3 albums : all the best ones were put on DM, those that couldn't fit in on the first album were on What's the Story and... the remaining trash was on BHN... and you can tell !
It may have been reduced to an average single : "d'ya know what I mean" / "all around the world" (interlude) / "stand by me"...

i'm pretty sure Noel was talking about the first two albums and all the B-Sides or The Masterplan. Be Here Now is the after fame album.
