ours was just as bad as it looks. crap blunt long ball cluelessness, square pegs round holes, two clownish goals gifted to an equally poor side. smithies human after all
chery and co were doing stupid short corners all game and when one was eventually given in front of the home end they encountered such an almighty volley collective fury that the intended receiver actually ran away
― r|t|c, Saturday, 20 August 2016 17:11 (seven years ago) link
Yeah well we're off the bottom of the football league so it's a happy day.
― Tim, Saturday, 20 August 2016 17:31 (seven years ago) link
Am guessing this was Cousins' coming-out as twinkletoed charlatan
― imago, Saturday, 20 August 2016 17:44 (seven years ago) link
not quite, hasn't yet been trusted with sir karl henry's august mantle so is for now being played as an inside-right shuttler (while the dynamic right winger we just brought is over on the other side looking lost). not his game, certainly nary a flattering twinkle upon a digit
― r|t|c, Saturday, 20 August 2016 19:18 (seven years ago) link
always gobsmacking to remember Karl Henry's still playing, still don't understand what he brings to a side that, say, a practice cone wouldn't be an improvement on
― Herodotus Reading (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 20 August 2016 19:52 (seven years ago) link
gonna see if we get another grudging 30 seconds on the worst football show ever
― Herodotus Reading (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 20 August 2016 20:12 (seven years ago) link
How can someone make a show so shit that people are getting wistful about the BBC FL show, daft question - this is the fucking channel that once broadcast a naked Keith Chegwin show.
Good on Hogg for getting his first league goal today, it will probably also be his last one but he is still a gem.

Coady is finally starting to blossom this season.
Smithies is gonna wake up sweating in the middle of the night all week.
We actually got the first game on treatment - still grudge saying owt nice about us tho.
― Herodotus Reading (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 20 August 2016 21:13 (seven years ago) link
It looks like Coady is back in favour then, a lot of people have been commenting on his performance yesterday. Even he won't recognise half the players on saturday and how our impoverished outpost has been transformed into a sturdy festung :p I'm not getting too carried away after 4 games tbh. I can remember one season when Millwall made a good start and then barely won a game after xmas and got relegated. But I do genuinely believe Wagner is pretty special and it is probably a once in a generation thing that such a great manager rocks up at Town.
― calzino, Sunday, 21 August 2016 08:44 (seven years ago) link
Coady was pretty poor last season but he was in a poor team that was getting changed week in week out as Jackett floundered. whether it's a confidence issue or better coaching and a more clearly defined role the improvement has been obvious in the first few games. he's still only a kid so it's great to see him taking this chance and running with it - see also Jed Wallace - especially since they must realise they are suddenly more disposable than they were last season if they don't step up.
― Herodotus Reading (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 21 August 2016 08:47 (seven years ago) link
He started very strongly for us and then faded a bit towards the end of the season. But that was under a mediocre manager + without much competition for places. I reckon he would have also really flourished under Wagner and perfectly fitted into his system.
― calzino, Sunday, 21 August 2016 08:56 (seven years ago) link
Wagner definitely seems to be the difference for you, as Zenga has been for us so far - the team that thrashed Birmingham yesterday started 10 players from Kenny Jackett's squad - Bodi was the only new guy - and they looked like a completely different side.
― Herodotus Reading (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 21 August 2016 09:07 (seven years ago) link
did i read right that coady's playing right back now? seems a good idea
― r|t|c, Sunday, 21 August 2016 09:11 (seven years ago) link
Proper game of two halves yesterday against our title challengers from last year.
1-0 down in the first minute and 2 down on 16 it felt like it was going to be a very long afternoon. Came out better in the second half but reached the hour mark with nothing to show for it.
First goal went in after they went to sleep on the right. Then we took the ball straight off them after the kick off and scored again. Then we took the ball straight off them AGAIN and brushed the woodwork. Then returned the goal kick and took the lead.
A late penalty made it safe, but three goals in under 4 minutes utterly broke their defence mentally.

xp Coady played a couple of games at right back while Iorfa was suspended but his best 2 games, including yesterday, have been more or less box to box centre mid

yay!
i haven't looked at the Express and Star for a couple of hours so of course we make 2 signings
think we could do with a centre half with a bit more experience but Ola John will fit right in, we're gonna play a fair bit of 4-3-3 i reckon
― Herodotus Reading (Noodle Vague), Monday, 22 August 2016 13:25 (seven years ago) link
Think he's a very decent signing for youse, NV.
From wiki:
John married Jane, making her Jane John, in Liberia in 2014. The couple have three kids including their oldest child Jane John Junior.

only thing i'm wondering about now is i thought we would be after another outright centre forward but didn't expect to sign any more than the 2 we've signed today
this is great tho - love two-footed wide players

newcastle apparently about to sign deandre yedlin (£5m lol), alan judge and even possibly big mouth bassy dost. oh well.

Newcastle offloaded walking injury Siem de Jong at my beloved PSV. His brother is our captain, you see. I've zero expectations and don't even know how he could possibly be of any use to us. But the mere fact that the transfer (Siem won four titles with Ajax) has Ajax fans in a complete tizzy over this (he's a nazi, traitor, a cancer etc now, all the sane things one expects from decent football fans) alone makes it worthwhile.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 23 August 2016 18:40 (seven years ago) link
Tim Krul supposedly on his way to Ajax on rent, because Barca are buying Ajax' Cilessen.

― blafe and sand (Noodle Vague), Friday, 26 August 2016 06:56 (seven years ago) link
Surprising. He's made a name for himself last year, and it was only a matter of time he'd leave Heracles. Think AZ and Utrecht had an eye on him. But I've not seen him play a whole lot tbf.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 26 August 2016 12:51 (seven years ago) link
Don't let him take yr pens, he's missed two in one game two weeks ago (but did score twice in the same match)
― Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 26 August 2016 12:52 (seven years ago) link
totally out of left field for me but it looks like negotiations are ongoing
(I saw about the pen thing - he missed two inside the space of 2 minutes!)
― Len Bincowank (Noodle Vague), Friday, 26 August 2016 12:55 (seven years ago) link
He did! I was driving and had the radio on when that happened. Caught the post-match interview, where Gladon said 'Eh it was shit but I hope I'm still top of the pen-takers list', to which the reporter wryly said 'No. Your manager just told me you're defo not gonna take any more pens'.

Dean Smith is a fucking cretinous knuckle scraper and is making Brentford + their players look very bad. Most teams will probably start giving it that extra few % just to teach them a lesson now.

Pearson had 2 options
tweak a top 6 side
rip it apart
done neither
no shots, no passion, no goals, no points.
get rid now
never seen such an abject performance, and start to a season
if anyone disagrees, your wrong, and arguing for the sake of it

Steve Bull is making a pre-match appearance at the White Rose club today, not that I'll be in that fucking horrible den of knaves. With a few exceptions the very idea of drinking with football fans makes me shudder these days. I predict a very tight game today and maybe Van La Parra will injure a couple more people in the upper hospitality area with his errant shooting :p
Holloway is tipping us to win 2-0 today, so the job is definitely fucked :(
― calzino, Saturday, 27 August 2016 09:16 (seven years ago) link
why doesn't that douche shut his cakehole?
tight is right i think, or at least i'd settle for tight. my take on the these first few weeks is that your general organization and teamplay is way ahead of ours at the moment, we seem to have the flair to get back into matches when our defence's fuck-ups lead to the inevitable
on the other hand, we're likely to have a new lineup again so god knows
