More specifically a Google image search for Gucci Mane Tape Title tracklist should bring one up, should it exist.

i really like this album! "guwop home" is amazing. obviously the worst songs on it are the kanye and drake features

lex pretend, Tuesday, 9 August 2016 10:00 (seven years ago) link

I like it too ("Robbed," "Waybach") and I'll indulge its inclination to play it safe.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 9 August 2016 12:01 (seven years ago) link

i wouldn't really call it playing safe (and did gucci ever really come out with a curveball vis-à-vis his own well-defined aesthetic?) - but it's so focused and effective, and i love (as evan pointed out) hearing him rap about specific emotional stuff in his signature way

lex pretend, Tuesday, 9 August 2016 12:38 (seven years ago) link

its completely playing it safe & doesn't sound substantially different from the last 30 gucci tapes aside from a few references to his changing circumstances. per usual folks are responding to peer interest & hype & not the actual music

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Wednesday, 10 August 2016 01:32 (seven years ago) link

i like the quality of the mixing and mastering but it cldve been cool if they took some more time writing the songs

lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 August 2016 23:36 (seven years ago) link

i know thats not the gucci way but hes supposed to be changing his ways and id be curious to hear his take on a minutely crafted album

lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 August 2016 23:37 (seven years ago) link

some of the songs are good but what if they all were idk just spitballing

lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 August 2016 23:41 (seven years ago) link

exactly my take also

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Tuesday, 16 August 2016 23:53 (seven years ago) link

like i don't think the process of A&R is necessarily antithetical to what makes Gucci great, it just has been historically bc they didn't really get what he was doing

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Tuesday, 16 August 2016 23:54 (seven years ago) link

Is this not a minutely crafted album?

No snark, just curious.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 16 August 2016 23:56 (seven years ago) link

he recorded it in six days

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Tuesday, 16 August 2016 23:59 (seven years ago) link

otm this whole thing is just ok.

Spottie, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 00:02 (seven years ago) link

I'm not defending this album as a masterpiece, but the mix and arrangements sound polished to my ears idk

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 17 August 2016 00:03 (seven years ago) link

sounds better than your run of the mill mixtape thats true

Spottie, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 00:05 (seven years ago) link

it is well engineered but i think we're looking from more of a songcraft perspective

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Wednesday, 17 August 2016 00:14 (seven years ago) link

ya the engineering is great but itd be cool if the songs were a lil more rigorous to match

lag∞n, Thursday, 18 August 2016 16:32 (seven years ago) link

mike will/zaytoven et al seems like spent more time on it than gucci did

lag∞n, Thursday, 18 August 2016 16:33 (seven years ago) link

he recorded it in six days

Of course including some of gucci's own tapes. That wasn't the question tho it was over whether or not this album sounds "minutely crafted" lol

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Wednesday, 24 August 2016 00:51 (seven years ago) link

"first day out" gives me chills tbh

esempiu (crüt), Wednesday, 24 August 2016 00:52 (seven years ago) link

this album is just verses he wrote in prison rapped over random instrumentals, right? surely that has more to do with the product than the time it actually took to record

Jacques_Lamure, Wednesday, 24 August 2016 01:57 (seven years ago) link

one month passes...

Sigh. I'm just worried about him. I've been rooting for dude for so long now but I can't see how he's ever coming back from this.

Yeah, man. I'm thrilled about his reinvention. Could not have predicted it. And the new songs keep getting better - as in he's sounding more and more at home on them? I'm not expecting a classic but Woptober should be good.

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Thursday, 13 October 2016 10:09 (seven years ago) link

I think a lot of the recent tracks have been only OK, but even on the mediocre he sounds really engaged again. It's really great to hear

This is very fun:

gucci biting my high school look

lag∞n, Thursday, 13 October 2016 16:23 (seven years ago) link

i don't think gucci had a "reinvention" so much as a combined prison time-out & a reappraisal

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Thursday, 13 October 2016 21:51 (seven years ago) link

Woptober is really good

Evan R, Friday, 14 October 2016 18:04 (seven years ago) link

It is. And whoile I do see deej's point I'll still go with reinvention. The Gucci who came out of jail is a lot more digestible than the guy who went in was. He sounds and acts as if he got a second shot at life.

yolo mostly (sleepingbag), Saturday, 15 October 2016 03:47 (seven years ago) link

His hooks are still lacking a bit on Woptober but his rapping is great, present and symbiotic with the beats, plus his lyrics are better than they've been in a good while afaict.

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Saturday, 15 October 2016 13:36 (seven years ago) link

Also, Out The Zoo might well be my favorite rap song this year.

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Saturday, 15 October 2016 13:50 (seven years ago) link

You COULD argue that this says something about the rest of 2016 rap (and you'd be right), but it also sounds like a top shelf Gucci song, so...

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Saturday, 15 October 2016 14:04 (seven years ago) link

this stuff all seems competent but its not really for me any more

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Sunday, 16 October 2016 00:09 (seven years ago) link

the "out the zoo" beat is pretty sick but the rapping doesn't do anything for me

his stuff all seems competent but its not really for me any more

How come?

Evan R, Sunday, 16 October 2016 02:10 (seven years ago) link

other people like him now

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Sunday, 16 October 2016 06:22 (seven years ago) link

People have always liked him cornballs in the press are just super late

I'd say it's a mix of stiffer rap style and boilerplate lyrics and just a general sensation that he's not really pushing himself

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Sunday, 16 October 2016 06:36 (seven years ago) link

= the wrong people like him now. I get that you prefer the 07-09 run, I do too. But the boilerplate lyrics accusation has been around forever, and given that he has been out for just a few months and have dropped two albums in that time, and that he sounds a lot more at home and confident and is clearly trying (and generally succeeding at) saying something about who and where he is now, speaking about his addiction and so on, I'd say he may well be pushing himself. Maybe he'll slip back into some kind of lazy default mode shortly but at the moment he's definitely trying to redefine himself. You don't have to like the direction he's going in though.

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Monday, 17 October 2016 06:44 (seven years ago) link

it's not what you say, it's how you say it

I agree with deej, this stuff is average as fuck, it isn't even close to his best 2011 or 2012 tracks.

ANU (sisilafami), Monday, 17 October 2016 11:37 (seven years ago) link

But the boilerplate lyrics accusation has been around forever

yeah by people who didn't know what they were talking about lol

J0rdan S., Monday, 17 October 2016 14:24 (seven years ago) link

i've quite liked some of his guest verses this year -- black beatles and vibin in this bih come to mind immediately -- but i agree with deej that his solo tracks have been pretty stiff

J0rdan S., Monday, 17 October 2016 14:25 (seven years ago) link

"The wrong people like him" is a reliable sign sure I like to think of them as negative indicators

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Monday, 17 October 2016 15:56 (seven years ago) link

I can't even argue with that, lol. I still enjoy this album though.

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Monday, 17 October 2016 16:39 (seven years ago) link

I think his verses are as good as they've been in years; it's the hooks that seem a little tired to me. Small quibble though. I'm just enjoying hearing him enjoy rapping again.
