The Silvertones Silver Bullets is a pretty great, sometimes overlooked one. Perry produced it, but really it's more about the good vocal harmonies.

That's strange: Silver Bullets gets 3 stars and yet is an 'AMG pick'...why am I not surprised?

I mean, it's not a killer or anything, but very nice vocal reggae.

High Explosion: DJ Reggae from 1969-79
Roots Radics Band: King Tubby's ROckers
Dennis AlCapone: My Voice is Insured for Half a Million Dollars (also wins best title of all time--next to Dr. Alimontado's "Best Dressed Chicken in town" album)
Ras Michael and the Sons of Negus: Nyabinghi Peace and Love
U Roy: Version Galore
Prince Jammy: Kamikaze Dub
Heptones: Cool Rasta (funny story: I saw Leroy Sibbles of the Heptones selecting a couple of weeks ago and he played "Take a Look at me Now" by Phil Collins...some guy at the bar started freaking out and yelling "lick it back! back! back!" and the song was played by Mr. Sibbles THREE TIMES)
Ethiopians: Reggae hit the town
Bob Marley - African Herbsman (but you probably already have this)
Big Youth: Reggae Phenomena
King Tubby and the Aggrovators: Foundation of Dub
--I'm sure some of the Lee Perry collections are excellent...I wouldn't know which to recommend.

Well you're at it, why not check out Blood and Fire's catalogue. ALL BRILLIANT. Plus, Steve Barrow (the guy who picks the records), is such a lovely person.

I've been listening to the tighten up box set a lot lately and it's a pearler.

I've been playing all the Trojan boxes for a project I'm working on and most of 'em are fairly OK. Really love the Calypso one, though.

9 years pass...

red wine excess + trojan compilations (tighten up vols 1-5) = perfection.

so many 'oooh i know this, its fantastic' moments.

oh, and i think sanctuary dealt with the catalogue way better than the current owners.

the packaging/sleeve notes etc was far superior.

does this mean that the sanctuary era reissues will become more collectible ?

Yeah it was a great shame when all those 2cd sets disappeared from the catalogue which I assume coincided with the changeover. There were som fantastic sets i meant to get but have now presumably missed.
Thought I'd see the Pioneers set was already going for megabucks, but it's now available new for £8 & less. Did new copies appear or something.
