Yeah, agreed.

Madchen, Friday, 15 July 2016 06:39 (seven years ago) link

Yep. Footage just resurfaced of Quintana holding on to the back of a motorcycle, whizzing by Porte trying to get back on his bike, does not help either.

I would have given Froome bonus seconds for the indignity of riding the neutral yellow bike for geeks btw.

These last few days, nutty.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 16 July 2016 03:56 (seven years ago) link

time trials a welcome slice of normcore

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 16 July 2016 04:52 (seven years ago) link

Lol. There's something deeply beautiful about riders who really know how to TT. Seeing Dumoulin sitting on his bike as aerodynamic as possible, body hardly moving, is a thing of grace.

Le Bateau Ivre, Saturday, 16 July 2016 09:59 (seven years ago) link

yeah he was so impressive!

i saw a photo of alaphillippe's TT crash, wtf happened there?

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 16 July 2016 16:38 (seven years ago) link

Cav with the win!!! Nicely done sir

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 16 July 2016 23:23 (seven years ago) link

Just goes to show how much omega pharma was the wrong team for him.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Sunday, 17 July 2016 03:41 (seven years ago) link

god that stage looked like a beast. so brutal. and still, whither goest thou quintana

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 18 July 2016 01:33 (seven years ago) link

Yeah I'd have to say this was my favorite stage overall so far, not that there haven't been some good ones. The only thing that would have made it great would have been if Quintana had put Froome to the test but I don't know whether to credit Sky's relentless efficiency or to think that Quintana is turning into a bit of a bust here this year. Hell, Astana applied more pressure in the end.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 18 July 2016 04:11 (seven years ago) link

Man, Sagan pulling a rabbit out of a hat there.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 18 July 2016 20:56 (seven years ago) link

he's pretty good at those throws across the line

that was a fun stage in the end! props to martin & alaphilippe for livening things up. bit of a crucible for lil alaphilippe having to keep up with a v8 like martin for so long, talk abt hauling ass

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 19 July 2016 03:45 (seven years ago) link

Until today I barely knew Martin and Cancellara were there, which seems very strange. Probably because of the time trial situation.

Madchen, Tuesday, 19 July 2016 03:54 (seven years ago) link

Man, Sagan pulling a rabbit out of a hat there.

For some reason, I read this as "Mrs Sagan pulling a rabbit out of a hat there" and wondered how I'd managed to miss this in yesterday's highlights.

Similarly I saw 'Ma Sagan' and had images of some sort of weird Peter Sagan origin myth. He seems like he should be the product of a conjuration.

Fizzles, Tuesday, 19 July 2016 10:48 (seven years ago) link

Probably is.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 19 July 2016 14:11 (seven years ago) link

phoenix egg iirc

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 19 July 2016 19:06 (seven years ago) link

nice to see everyone is waking up to quintana being a massive wheelsucker who attacks less than cadel ever did.

Justin Townes' URL (haitch), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 02:11 (seven years ago) link

srsly

in other not-exactly-unexpected news, Cav has pulled out to prep for Rio. And Kennaugh has volunteered his spot on olympic team to Cummings

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 02:30 (seven years ago) link

I'm really sorry Kennaugh can't go to Rio - he had such a great early season and I've had a soft spot for him since his auntie randomly tweeted me a couple of years ago. But the world seems righter with Cummings on the team.

the pulp fiction dancing is hilar

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 18:09 (seven years ago) link

Yeah I like that one best :)

Disappointing stage today. Quintana, Mollema just not good enough to deliver a blow. And what kind of self-destructing riding were Astana doing anyway? Aru, Rosa and Nibali all blowing their fuses to.... Not attack at all. Sky's got a firm grip on this. Froome still not looking as great as previous years, but that's mostly because he doesn't have to.

Loved that Zakarin won the stage. Pantano very good in second, too. Love that kid with his toothpaste smile.

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 18:16 (seven years ago) link

zakarin seem fishy to me

jason waterfalls (gbx), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 19:14 (seven years ago) link

Because he's Russian? Because he got banned for doping in 2009? Hardly the only one in the current peloton.

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:35 (seven years ago) link

just smile and wave boys, just smile and wave.

wishy washy hippy variety hour (Hunt3r), Thursday, 21 July 2016 00:18 (seven years ago) link

shade aside, zakarin destroyed that climb, pantano too. awesome effort. And I thought it was a decent stage.

Astana looked p good but attacked way too early, Sky have too many dudes on these climbs, they can't hold any gain.

Adam Yates tho! Solid effort. Quintana sad trombone. hopefully they'll stop talking about his magical final week attacks

btw i had a chance to catch the ITV coverage and listening to david millar and that other guy was definitely a step up from the usual commentating with phil et al

jason waterfalls (gbx), Thursday, 21 July 2016 20:46 (seven years ago) link

Millar was a great TT'er himself, would've like to hear that!

just smile and wave boys, just smile and wave.

No at all. But I've not seen you barge in here and throw shade on Froome, Pantano, Aru, Dumoulin, Sagan etc etc. So why single out Zakarin?

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 21 July 2016 21:11 (seven years ago) link

tbf i threw shade at zakarin and yeah i guess i am thinking of his past as a doper

but like his chinstrap beard tho

jason waterfalls (gbx), Friday, 22 July 2016 03:07 (seven years ago) link

he sure is a skinny bugger

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 22 July 2016 04:28 (seven years ago) link

the only thing fishy is the lack of doping cases. they're all on something new probably. or maybe it's the alleged micro-dosing, to stay under the radar.

Ludo, Friday, 22 July 2016 10:59 (seven years ago) link

Watching this descent through the gaps between my fingers. Yikes!

Madchen, Friday, 22 July 2016 14:55 (seven years ago) link

Tour de France - Fury Road. Jeeesus christ that was stressful. Lotta sore bodies tonight

legit teared up for Bardet's win. dude is a fighter.

all i want now is for Quintana to be bumped off the podium. Yates, Porte, anyone, plz activate.

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 23 July 2016 06:12 (seven years ago) link

Bullshit 10 second penalty for Adam Yates. How much benefit can you get from a hand-sling 85k before the finish?

ultros ultros-ghali, Saturday, 23 July 2016 11:23 (seven years ago) link

Anyway we might be in for another crazy stage, they're predicting thunderstorms at some point. I kind of hope not, the sight of people sliding metres across the road protected by nothing but lycra never gets any easier. It's a real shame about Dumoulin too he had a really great tour up to that point.

ultros ultros-ghali, Saturday, 23 July 2016 11:26 (seven years ago) link

stoked for the madness

jason waterfalls (gbx), Saturday, 23 July 2016 12:28 (seven years ago) link

i didnt know yatesy got a penalty >:(

def bummed for dumoulin. sidebar: he is mega, mega handsome. like 90's calvin klein model zoolander ridiculously good looking

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 23 July 2016 14:54 (seven years ago) link

I think he looks like Jack Whitehall.

Madchen, Saturday, 23 July 2016 17:54 (seven years ago) link

imo he looks more like bobby from twin peaks

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 23 July 2016 21:04 (seven years ago) link

He does look like Bobby! Or Bobby being his little brother.

It's very sad, his main goal this year was a gold medal in Rio on the TT. Uncertain if he'll start now due to his fractured wrist.

Le Bateau Ivre, Saturday, 23 July 2016 21:23 (seven years ago) link

awful twist of fate there, all that training & preparation
