ilm DEVO BALLOT POLL aka unconPOLLable urge (voting closes 10 July)

soref, Thursday, 30 June 2016 20:17 (seven years ago) link

yeah finally a new poll, i was beginning to wonder if we would ever have artist poll number 76.

Bee OK, Friday, 1 July 2016 00:49 (seven years ago) link

I'm so tired I feel like I haven't sleep in a month. Next week I'll be in Mexico city working with Corona beer (can't tell much but it's music related and I'm very excited!) and since all the people I know there are workaholics I'll have all week free in the evening. I could run the CAN voting thread and roll results when the Devo poll is over (who the hell is Devo!?)

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 2 July 2016 08:15 (seven years ago) link

*slept not sleep

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 2 July 2016 08:16 (seven years ago) link

Ok, just putting this out there ...

Should we do a Can poll? I might even volunteer to run it if folks wanted to do is ASAP ...

Naive Teen Idol, Wednesday, 6 July 2016 19:11 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, Poll 77 - Can

Mark G, Wednesday, 6 July 2016 20:28 (seven years ago) link

Can we do a Should poll?

Nicholas Nickelback (Leee), Wednesday, 6 July 2016 20:51 (seven years ago) link

Whoops! I must have missed that. I guess it's hard to do a word search for the word "can."

Question: could we get this done this summer? Love these polls when I have time to stalk them.

Naive Teen Idol, Thursday, 7 July 2016 00:05 (seven years ago) link

Is this list now completely out the window? I've been patiently waiting years for the chance to do my covers poll.

kornrulez6969, Thursday, 7 July 2016 00:14 (seven years ago) link

I say just do your covers poll!

Nicholas Nickelback (Leee), Thursday, 7 July 2016 00:16 (seven years ago) link

The whole purpose of the list is that, once upon a time, so many people wanted to run polls that it was mayhem trying to have them all going at once. Now, nobody wants to run polls and the list is basically a relic/reminder.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 7 July 2016 00:31 (seven years ago) link

I can do one next week.

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 7 July 2016 00:40 (seven years ago) link

the list is still there, it just fell off. it sounds like Devo, and then Can and then i was going to do Oasis (i think). but since it has been so dead lately that if you are ready to do your poll you can pretty much do it at any time. just so long as one is not running when one is going on.

Bee OK, Thursday, 7 July 2016 00:55 (seven years ago) link

I say put the word out on here and give it a week for people to respond. Whoever says they are still interested just start a new list with those and move the others to the back with no name attached. If people volunteer to run an 'unspoken for' poll then cool that one is back in at the end of the 'spoken for' list .

moistest hoist (Spottie), Thursday, 7 July 2016 00:57 (seven years ago) link

One thing I used to like was how people would bump this thread (or its ancestors) when a poll got going. It was an easy way to know when some hott poll action was happening.

Psyched for the Can poll!

Naive Teen Idol, Thursday, 7 July 2016 02:16 (seven years ago) link

One thing I used to like was how people would bump this thread (or its ancestors) when a poll got going

^ I think this is essential for those of us who just pop in every now and then and see which bookmarked threads have been posted to, rather than diligently scrolling down through ILM new answers once an hour

I'll start the Can voting poll next week when the Devo thread is over. So Devo can roll results while I do the vote count. How many weeks for voting do you guys feel is ok? Two weeks?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 9 July 2016 22:03 (seven years ago) link

usually it is a 10 day window but two weeks should be fine.

Bee OK, Saturday, 9 July 2016 23:20 (seven years ago) link

Need more time to savor those sweet sweet Can epics...

Now I Know How Joan of Arcadia Felt (C. Grisso/McCain), Sunday, 10 July 2016 01:14 (seven years ago) link

Since it looks like the Can poll is covered, one other suggestion I could run is Tim Buckley if people think there's an appetite for that. Short career but nine albums' worth of material.

Naive Teen Idol, Sunday, 10 July 2016 04:56 (seven years ago) link

results for the Devo poll happening now

in the past this information has been suppressed, but now it can be POLLED - Devo ballot poll results thread

I will do Van Morrison. Please me on the list for that.

ILM Artist Poll No. 77 · CAN · Results Thread

Bee OK, Wednesday, 27 July 2016 01:53 (seven years ago) link

I would love a French-language / Francophone music poll.

TARANTINO! (dog latin), Tuesday, 2 August 2016 13:53 (seven years ago) link

I think that would be great too. I don't know if there are enough francophones/francophiles on this board though? It's also pretty vast as a category, but I would be willing to run it if there is an interest.

anyone interesting in going? i think anyone who has time can go ahead and run a poll.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 7 September 2016 02:10 (seven years ago) link

I could do another one if you'd like... these are the ones I'm up for if you are... I could also nominate polls from artists that are not yet there like...: Captain Beefheart, Arthur Russell, Belle & Sebastian, The Zombies, Animal Collective, My Bloody Valentine, Portishead, Massive Attack, Kanye West...

Kanye seems like the most "I can't believe we haven't already done this!" choice.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 7 September 2016 23:09 (seven years ago) link

Maybe it's because he's still releasing new albums and singles every year or two? Well, you can add me up to that one and I can skip everyone else in line if noone cares.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 7 September 2016 23:14 (seven years ago) link

I was going to say I was amazed that there's never been a Janet Jackson ballot poll, but then I realised there was this tracks poll for all the Jackson siblings:

The Jacksons Tracks - Smooth CrimiPOLL results1!!1!!!!

not enough Janet in the top 10 imo

soref, Wednesday, 7 September 2016 23:19 (seven years ago) link

Wu-Tang would be interesting, such a gigantic catalog

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 7 September 2016 23:27 (seven years ago) link

By that reckoning, Acid Mothers Temple would be intersting too.

write sed fread (Leee), Wednesday, 7 September 2016 23:29 (seven years ago) link

Definitely Elvis. Most people would benifit from delving into that discography.

simmel, Wednesday, 7 September 2016 23:41 (seven years ago) link

I don't know if NickB is still wanting to do the "Genesis + solo" poll at some point? I was hoping that "solo" would encompass literally *everything* any of them did, so you could vote for, say, The Knife and Sussudio and Over My Shoulder on the same ballot.

soref, Wednesday, 7 September 2016 23:42 (seven years ago) link

i think you should go ahead and run Stooges/Iggy Pop Moka as it is the only one without a name attached to it. it also got bumped down the line as flopson bailed on it. some dude is going to do Hendrix, i will do Talking Heads but not until February of 2017. flappy bird is doing Animal Collective he just doesn't know it yet. i'm also going to probably drop Blondie and do The Jesus and Mary Chain instead. If MBV goes then Joy Division should also get a poll. what fun we can have...

Bee OK, Wednesday, 7 September 2016 23:48 (seven years ago) link

Ismael Klata reached out to me about doing George Michael. i think he should go ahead and open up that poll!

Bee OK, Wednesday, 7 September 2016 23:51 (seven years ago) link

I could start the wu one as early as next week

Spottie, Thursday, 8 September 2016 00:03 (seven years ago) link

Yeah I'd love to do the Stooges/Iggy Pop one. I go on a Stooges and Cramps binge every year when the summer dies.

Oooh we don't have a Cramps poll in line either!? How? Sign me up for that one too. I don't know if there's enough interest in ILM for them but I love them.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 8 September 2016 01:42 (seven years ago) link

I love The Cramps, but mostly the first handful of years rather than all the later years. My ballot would be boring.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 8 September 2016 02:42 (seven years ago) link

I've been summoned. I'll put the George Michael poll up later today. I've got a short window where this is possible, so let's get on with it.
