is the issue the bully's demands, or the use of the photo?

under yelp's own content guidelines:

Privacy: Don’t publicize other people’s private information. Please don’t post close-up photos or videos of other patrons without their permission, and please don’t post other people’s full names unless you’re referring to service providers who are commonly identified by or commonly share their own full names.

nomar, Monday, 20 June 2016 22:51 (seven years ago) link

i assume that goes for store employees too tbh

nomar, Monday, 20 June 2016 22:51 (seven years ago) link

Yeah I find it hard to believe any customer posting up photos of staff/other customers on Yelp is in any way acceptable.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Monday, 20 June 2016 23:46 (seven years ago) link

idk, you'd think there'd be something specific about staff if they were serious about it. probably doesn't hurt to contact them either way

qualx, Tuesday, 21 June 2016 00:46 (seven years ago) link

or maybe it does, idk. yelp seems to be pretty big into shakedowns

qualx, Tuesday, 21 June 2016 00:47 (seven years ago) link

yeah, that's what i'm trying to say. Having worked for a business that at one point (and this was maybe eight years ago) tasked me with speaking with Yelp about addressing several out of left field reviews that were killing our rating and discovering that the only way to work those issues out was to pay yelp: fuck those guys.

thrusted pelvis-first back (ulysses), Tuesday, 21 June 2016 06:32 (seven years ago) link

Businesses that WORK the whole rating sites thing (especially in Europe, where libel and honor law make getting reviews yanked very easy indeed) are also scumbags.

no waiter has ever asked me if I'm still "working it down", does this customer often eat at places where the food is extremely tough? Do they visibly struggle to swallow?

Guayaquil (eephus!), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 14:55 (seven years ago) link

wtf is that?

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 14:56 (seven years ago) link

when i was a waiter "are you still working on that?" was in my (and other waiters and busboys') lexicon

Je55e, Wednesday, 22 June 2016 15:08 (seven years ago) link

expectation of no ice in water (commonly known as "ice water") is nuts

Je55e, Wednesday, 22 June 2016 15:09 (seven years ago) link

Anyone who hands a travel rider to a waiter that isn't about a complex and deadly allergy should be refused service on the grounds of being a colossally ungrateful boor.

assawoman bay (harbl), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 23:26 (seven years ago) link

Yeah wow was that actually a paper that someone is HANDING TO WAITERS?

"seat us in the quietest part of the restaurant".

OK! *seats them next to the toilets*

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Thursday, 23 June 2016 00:45 (seven years ago) link

people who demand to be sat in quiet seats tend to be loud as fuck in my experience

thrusted pelvis-first back (ulysses), Thursday, 23 June 2016 01:03 (seven years ago) link

People who honestly want quiet tables at restaurants shouldnt eat out imo.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Thursday, 23 June 2016 01:17 (seven years ago) link

srsly a list of demands is fucked. esp one as smug and pretentious as that one

Neanderthal, Thursday, 23 June 2016 02:01 (seven years ago) link

that's the table waiters pawn off on each other (and yes, they do this - or at least we did in mine)

Neanderthal, Thursday, 23 June 2016 02:02 (seven years ago) link

Some places are a no-go for my partially deaf OH. I think quietness/ not-terrible acoustics in restaurants (and many public places) is underrated tbh, otherwise it means eating without talking to each other

kinder, Thursday, 23 June 2016 05:14 (seven years ago) link

there's quietness as in "hey cool this restaurant doesn't have some shitbeak playing Sting covers on his acoustic guitar or karaoke" which I can appreciate cos I like to be able to converse with the people around me. then there's quietness as in "oh hey we're all meditating, and i can hear the mice scurrying in the ceiling". the first is laudable, the second is a pipe dream!

Neanderthal, Thursday, 23 June 2016 05:34 (seven years ago) link

there is also a real thing of, between the acoustics of the space and how loud they turn up the background music, patrons may be inclined to talk more or less loudly to be understood by those at their table, which amplified across a restaurant can mean either a place that's good to go on a date or one that's really only fun if you're drunk or watching the game or whatever. i mean, none of that should be on a "put all the money from the safe in this bag, and no funny business" note, but it's something i would be interested to know if i was looking up a place to eat.

Harvey Manfrenjensenden (Doctor Casino), Thursday, 23 June 2016 13:38 (seven years ago) link

Thats what I was getting at, theres really no such thing as a stone-quiet restaurant. Especially these days with the trend of polished concrete/wood floors and metal decoratives and loud music.

The last time I was out with my parents and bf, I just gave up trying to talk to anyone (I'm also partially deaf)

two weeks pass...

OK, this is Chowhound, not Yelp, but it's simply too all-time not to post:

 We were there during the EU austerity measures and the controversy over it. Not sure if it had anything to do with it but for every professional and lovely person we met, we met a surly and bitter one.
 There seemed to a be a general sense that people were waiting for someone else to give them something or do something instead of getting organized and doing something themselves…a lot of talk about how the government was not giving this or doing that.
 We knew it was complicated and the history was complicated and that the middle and upper classes had really sold the general Greek population down the river…but still wished our hosts had felt it was more important to put their best foot forward…for their own sakes more than ours.
 Perhaps all understandable but to a New Yorker, who for 20 years often worked highly productive 80 hour weeks to earn a middle class living, all of this was a bit hard to take on a sometimes frequent basis.
 Not that it does not happen everywhere to some extent but it was out of proportion on this trip… we loved so many of the people and found the locales so striking and beautiful that we would go back but think some people would be put off.
 As a point of comparison, if you go to places like the central highlands of central Mexico or to Nicaragua or Thailand, etc., etc., where people have so little relatively, they are so upbeat, professional, hospitable, caring of the details, so on time, so helpful, so efficient, so diligent, and so clearly hard working…it’s hard not to think at least occasionally that the Greeks are resting on their laurels…literally.
 They have so much to build on and they don’t seem to get it. Here’s hoping for the future.

wow.

In contrast, my cousin and her fam were in greece literally that week they shut the banks down, and she couldnt stop going on about how amazingly friendly everyone was, how tourist-forward they were all being, despite everything.

LOL also: "to a New Yorker, who for 20 years often worked highly productive 80 hour weeks to earn a middle class living" - well, sucks to be you dude, get a job that doesnt shit on you so hard maybe.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Wednesday, 13 July 2016 00:50 (seven years ago) link

yeah I was like "hmm I do better than that in 40 hrs/week, soz mate"

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 13 July 2016 01:00 (seven years ago) link

Worst experience I have ever had with a convient store! This it's in reference to an experience that I had with cashier at your SW 9th and Watrous location in Des Moines, Iowa. I don't have his name but he works late night and drives a FORD CROWN VICTORA. He was arguing with a customer right before he decided to tell me to leave(because I was laughing I would imagine) saying that I stole something and was banned from the store!!! In front of about 6 people which at least is defamation of character....I have called and left voicemail with KUM & GO CORPERATE and was never contacted by anyone! I cant believe that this kid still has a job or that I didn't get a call back!!!!! I will be pursing legal options...at this point...Im NOT going to GO AWAY!!!

Rude staff. They hold your credit card at the bar. Which is very strange and I believe against the law. It was my first time here and won't come back. I had to ask for the credit card and the bartender would not give me back. I had to use a stronger tone and got my card back after much back and forth argument with the bartender. Won't recommend this place to anyone.

qualx, Tuesday, 25 October 2016 23:42 (seven years ago) link

Wow they will be extremely grumpy when they go to every other bar on earth.

yelpers are really good at being completely bewildered by standard practices and procedures. cf. the gushing, died-and-gone-to-heaven reviews of bookstores with a recommendation wall, and the vicious takedowns of movie theaters with overpriced candy and snacks. OUTRAGEOUS
