hey but anyway I think we all agree that canons are tools of oppression, and these lists and rankings may seem weird and tokenistic, rockistic, all sorts of bad stuff - but those are all great albums! and we all know them since they're in the evil canon, so we can all vote and discuss, just for the fun of it
like that thread abt most scary/impressive/fascistic monuments - we can have fun voting and talking abt stuff we don't agree with?
anyway, these threads could also be used for discussing the canon if anyone finds that interesting (what's missing, which conservative aesthetic values are expressed, i dunno)

I was 29 in 2000, was going to say "I have heard none of these" but wait, Mass Romantic, one of my favorite records of all time! Remember hearing "My Slow Descent..." on the radio and almost having to stop the car, I was so bowled over, and it had been so long since a piece of pop pushed everything else aside so forcefully.
Don't really know what I was listening to in 2000? Kleenex Girl Wonder and Barcelona had great records that year. Oh and "Mermaid Avenue Vol. 2"

ghostface vs. luomo both of which i got into later, it's a little embarrassing what i liked at the time. i think i finally have no use for radiohead which is a relief tbh.

I look on this list, and honestly it looks pretty good. It's really not that I miss too much, but then I see U2, Coldplay, Doves, Deftones, Dandy Warhols, and yeah, there must be some worthy records missing.

I think I've listened to every record on this list except the last one

You NEED to hear the last one!

I saw this Badly Drawn Boy tour and wonder how this album holds up.

I guess "Mass Romantic", though it's more uneven than their later albums. Probably my favorite albums from 2000 are Immolation "Close to a World Below" and Peter Garland "The Days Run Away".

Nothing on this list was/is/will be as enduring, influential and flat out brilliant as Kid A.
― Austin, Monday, 13 June 2016 00:54 (seven years ago) link
This poll was my latest incentive to give Voodoo yet another shot. I still don't get it.
Voted for Stankonia over Kid A and Mass Romantic.

Voodoo of the options available. Discordance Axis's The Inalienable Dreamless is probably my favourite of the year.

i'm going w Luomo. such a lovely little world. the rest of these can suck it. actually i haven't heard that many of them and don't care that much. would actively avoid gybe. luomo is the only one of these i would gladly listen to right now though. kid a is bad.

i'm a hip hop rube but isn't supreme clientele one of the best ghostace records? why did people like eminem again? sorry
― riverine (map), Monday, 13 June 2016 04:27 (seven years ago) link
hmm maybe luomo is actaully bad. watch for more from me in this space soon.
― riverine (map), Monday, 13 June 2016 04:37 (seven years ago) link
People like Eminem because hooks, pop music, persona. Maybe race. I like Ghostface but he's not got hooks like Eminem.

I've heard like three of these. Voted for GYBE anyway.

― alpine static, Monday, 13 June 2016 07:50 (seven years ago) link
in the end, i voted for the one i think is most clearly the band's peak
― alpine static, Monday, 13 June 2016 07:53 (seven years ago) link
Voted for Stories From the City. Supreme Clientele and Kid A are my other favourites but I still like over half of these albums. Most glaring omission for me: Gas - Pop

Not my favourite year of the 00's, it has to be said. Of course, there was some good-to-great music as there was every year, but for some reason 2000 still felt like it had a bit of a '90s hangover about it. To me, it didn't feel like the 00's properly got started until about 2003 or thereabouts. 2003-2007 I remember as being particularly good years. 2002 and 2008 probably much less so.

i had a vague thought about vocalcity i wanted put down. it's sort of this beautifully conceived ad for the EU isn't it? and is in that sense a funny little time capsule. it's sooo gorgeous though...

Voted for The Avalanches. Ghostface Killah and D'angelo would complete my top three.
