I just watched this last night and I really enjoyed it. Trashy but entertaining. Lots of post-modernist touches esp. as in how Gere's character is a construction of different pop culture icons (The Silver Surfer, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis). Also the scene where the architecture professor is in the Bonaventure - "You know Frank Lloyd Wright? This is Frank Lloyd Wrong".The difference between Gere's hyperbolic over-acting and Kaprisky's stiffness (she can't deliver her lines very convincingly but god is she beautiful) is interesting too. Such a lovely film visually too. I like the fake dark red sunset as Gere is bopping to Jerry Lee Lewis in his car.
You can definitely spot numerous Tarantino touchstones in this. It's full of them.
