That sounds...different.

Is this gonna be the album where Jonny's soundtrack work finally wreaks havoc on the band cause I am SO DOWN for that

Enjoying the Trumpton does Hammer Horror vibe.

Time for a new thread? Or maybe wait till we know what the thing is called for sure.

We never did a Radiohead ILX Precover, did we?

Mark G, Tuesday, 3 May 2016 11:34 (seven years ago) link

We would need a tracklist for that.

Although we could just make that up.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 3 May 2016 11:37 (seven years ago) link

Last time out, it was announced and released within a week.

(Previous time to that, it was basically released without warning)

Mark G, Tuesday, 3 May 2016 11:41 (seven years ago) link

There's a thread already, been around for years, will find it in a moment...

NWOFHM! Overlord (krakow), Tuesday, 3 May 2016 11:56 (seven years ago) link

I still vote for a new one.

I just looked up some old news posts and In Rainbows was announced in a post on their blog 10 days before the album's release.
King of Limbs was announced 4 days before the album's release.

MarkoP, Tuesday, 3 May 2016 12:50 (seven years ago) link

We should expect this one to be announced ~2 days after release then

I look forward to hearing from you shortly, (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 3 May 2016 12:59 (seven years ago) link

So this is the complete video for Burn The Witch then I guess

nate woolls, Tuesday, 3 May 2016 15:16 (seven years ago) link

yorke's voice is good but the song itself is a little plodding

marcos, Tuesday, 3 May 2016 15:20 (seven years ago) link

anyways i still play in rainbows from time to time, that album is beautiful, king of limbs eh it's okay i guess, it would've been better served with different album art, the cover is complete trash

marcos, Tuesday, 3 May 2016 15:22 (seven years ago) link

Song sounds nice enough, nothing mindblowing but could be a grower. Great vid.

KoL has a good cover! suits the music well.

The mix seems a little flat but it could just be YT.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 3 May 2016 15:24 (seven years ago) link

I like this new song a lot

The strings are very Owen Pallett.

This sounds a bit more immediate than anything off of TKOL. Bits of it remind me of Climbing Up The Walls. Although yeah, it doesn't seem to have much in the way of dynamics. The line 'low-flying panic attack' is Yorke by numbers. I love the video though. Not sure what I'd think of the song on its own.

yeah

redolent of 'the riverbed' except without a proper development and 1/10 the tension

the chorus is kinda nice-ish

radiohead aren't making interesting music now

wow this sounds great, so much better than anything on IR or TKOL

flappy bird, Tuesday, 3 May 2016 15:39 (seven years ago) link

Better than All I Need? I think not.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Tuesday, 3 May 2016 15:40 (seven years ago) link

xpost to flappy bird: wow no

i like this though, wonder if it'll be like "lotus flower" and it'll slowly develop from sounding interesting if slight to one of my favorite radiohead songs

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Tuesday, 3 May 2016 15:41 (seven years ago) link

it is nowhere near as good as for example 'little by little'

The lyrics are amusingly pat, even for thom

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 3 May 2016 15:43 (seven years ago) link

every time i revisit in rainbows i am totally surprised by how awesome everything in "bodysnatchers" is

every time i visit 'in rainbows' i am totally struck by how the album goes to soft-headed rubbish after 'bodysnatchers'

i like the stop-motion video, at least!

not that i can divine very many lyrics from this but i enjoy "this is a low-flying panic attack"

You guys are listening to that album all wrong.

TARANTINO! (dog latin), Tuesday, 3 May 2016 15:51 (seven years ago) link

The first two tracks on IR should have been consigned to some sort of ltd ed 7" and the rest should have been a really nice mini-album.

TARANTINO! (dog latin), Tuesday, 3 May 2016 15:51 (seven years ago) link

really weird opinions about ir itt

"bodysnatchers" is just a great asymmetrical rock jam, every part of it is thrilling imo. imo ir and kol are radiohead becoming a better band i.e. people who respond to each other sensitively and intuitively while playing in a room. that's of course a very rockist interpretive lens but hey it's rock music. kol suffers for not being worked on enough (which is why it's suddenly amazing when you hear the live from the basement versions/the songs they released later)

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Tuesday, 3 May 2016 15:55 (seven years ago) link

i like the songs on IR, but i hate the dry production. sounds like a radio session. TKOL is a bit harder to crack, and actually yeah now that I remember it, I love "Little by Little" and "Morning Mr. Magpie."

flappy bird, Tuesday, 3 May 2016 15:57 (seven years ago) link

i've never been big on later radiohead but the new song sounded pretty good to me

some dude, Tuesday, 3 May 2016 15:59 (seven years ago) link

yeah IR has the benefit of feeling like they took the appropriate amount of time to craft an actual album, and the b-sides feel appropriate as b-sides

x-posts

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 3 May 2016 15:59 (seven years ago) link

Yeah it sounded pretty good, I hope they've gone full orchestral on this one, it would certainly tally with what Jonny Greenwood's been doing over the last few years. Another album that bounces between guitar-bass-drums, mopey piano ballads and cod-Hyperdub would be pretty boring at this stage.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 May 2016 16:04 (seven years ago) link

despite a youth spent playing the bends/ok computer/kid a on repeat, in rainbows was the lasting radiohead album for me in the end

ciderpress, Tuesday, 3 May 2016 16:08 (seven years ago) link

me too

marcos, Tuesday, 3 May 2016 16:10 (seven years ago) link

the orchestration on this is nice but it feels a bit radiohead-by-numbers otherwise? there's not really any sort of shift beyond some orchestral subtleties. it's better than the recent thom yorke solo stuff but that's not saying much.

in rainbows is really great, up with their very best. it's a culmination of their strengths. this is supposed to have been written around that time but it doesn't really compare to what made that album.

i like what they were going for with the king of limbs, there's a lot of interesting rhythmic shifts, but the songs weren't really there. bloom is quite nice though.

ufo, Tuesday, 3 May 2016 16:12 (seven years ago) link

king of limbs was great mostly for the thom dancing video

ciderpress, Tuesday, 3 May 2016 16:14 (seven years ago) link

also 'codex' is my most played radiohead song it's a powerful relaxant

ciderpress, Tuesday, 3 May 2016 16:15 (seven years ago) link

this is cool. kinda interesting how the orchestration completely overpowers the mix at the end and the tinny drum machine beat gets completely swallowed up. i kept expecting the live drums to drop.

i can't listen to the earlier albums very often these days, but HttT/IR/KoL still have some surprises left. and Thom Yorke's solo albums sound the least dated of anything to my ears.

sam jax sax jam (Jordan), Tuesday, 3 May 2016 16:25 (seven years ago) link

i listened to the eraser last night for the first time in a while, man that thing is so great. can't believe it's been 10 years. yesterday's tomorrow's boxes or whatever did nothing for me.
