They're always shifting stock around, changing sourcing, etc.

I still weep about the large stoppered bottles of ginger beer that got recalled. Their newsletter claims they have it back in normal-sized bottles

μpright mammal (mh), Saturday, 30 April 2016 16:55 (seven years ago) link

Of course but they usually don't pull things off the shelves and trash them during that process...

musically, Saturday, 30 April 2016 16:58 (seven years ago) link

They have their own house brand of ginger beer now...I prefer reed's though since it's a little sweeter, but theirs is good too.

musically, Saturday, 30 April 2016 16:59 (seven years ago) link

I was pretty hopeful for the TJs ginger beer but Reed's is def better. Bundaberg's even better but I have to go to another store for that shit.

costco has bundaberg's but i have been resisting it the last couple trips

i drink it all way too quickly and it just tastes too good with alcohol

sarahell, Saturday, 30 April 2016 19:39 (seven years ago) link

I don't drink much at all. But yeah when I have a bottle of dark rum and some Bundaberg's...

Arch Godliness of Purplefull Magic (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Saturday, 30 April 2016 23:08 (seven years ago) link

Island salsa is solid.

Jeff, Saturday, 30 April 2016 23:29 (seven years ago) link

bundaberg is so dope

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 1 May 2016 02:50 (seven years ago) link

good bottle shape

μpright mammal (mh), Sunday, 1 May 2016 17:38 (seven years ago) link

Chicken and Vegetable Wonton Soup (frozen) is really good. Broth might need a little doctoring to your taste but the veggies are crisp and fresh and the wontons are just fine. (This comes after a string of frozen disappointments)

the lamb vindaloo is p good

rockpalast '82 (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 12 May 2016 21:15 (seven years ago) link

I had the frozen Paella that was recommended above and didn't think it was anything special. The boxed package from Vigo (which seems to be widely available) is better, though it is a bit more work to prepare.

nickn, Thursday, 12 May 2016 22:19 (seven years ago) link

not v exciting, but they have new instant oatmeal packets that are just-add-boiling water w flax, chia etc

good portion size, really like em

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 12 May 2016 23:11 (seven years ago) link

i am on record stanning for the lamb vindaloo

μpright mammal (mh), Friday, 13 May 2016 01:17 (seven years ago) link

note that a fair amount of the frozen veggies at TJ's were part of the recall. although we continued to eat a bag of organic mixed vegetables without dying

akm, Friday, 13 May 2016 02:15 (seven years ago) link

(the listeria recall, that is)

Blueberry Breakfast Biscuits (which are cookies) are exactly the kind of mildly flavored, slightly textured, subtly disappointing compressed sawdust wafers I need in the late morning when I'm waiting for lunch. Nice work, TJs.

keep in mind i live in minneapolis, hardly a hotbed of great indian food but i legit have had worse at sitdown restaurants

rockpalast '82 (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 13 May 2016 14:06 (seven years ago) link

don't know why they bother carrying those fresh rice noodles. they're THE WORST! boiled 'em for less than a minute for a pho and shocked them with cold water - they were just a gummy hardly edible mess

three weeks pass...

Their falafel wrap sandwich thing was like eating patties of mildly dampened sawdust wrapped in an old shirt stuffed with stuff they found under a cutting board. It was so gross it's poisoned my tongue against my sweet potato tortilla chips. YOU ARE WARNED.

Microwave cod Provencale w/ rice and ratatouille was basically gruel topped with dry, flavorless whitefish.

yuk

The occasional successes i've had with their food always make me forget how terrible and bland their stuff can be.

Alan (legendary creature) (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 5 June 2016 00:34 (seven years ago) link

My TJ seems to have stopped carrying Fruit Frenzy II fruit bars. Motherfuckers.

Jeff, Sunday, 5 June 2016 00:55 (seven years ago) link

Maybe they're working on Fruit Frenzy III

Just happened to look at this thread and FYI to drinkers of Bundaberg ginger beer and alcohol: highly recommend their Pineapple & Coconut with white rum, as you guys are heading into summer

glandular lansbury (sic), Sunday, 5 June 2016 13:02 (seven years ago) link

so...mango

musically, Sunday, 5 June 2016 15:14 (seven years ago) link

Yeah I somehow ended up getting five different mango-flavored or -infused products last night.

orifex, Monday, 6 June 2016 17:08 (seven years ago) link

mango caramel popcorn is amazing.
mango babka is amazing in the opposite direction.

Bundaberg ginger beer seems to be everywhere right now, even stocked at bars, but the pineapple/coconut remains elusive.

kate78, Tuesday, 7 June 2016 17:53 (seven years ago) link

why is there mango everything right now?

sarahell, Tuesday, 7 June 2016 17:55 (seven years ago) link

one month passes...

just had the salsa especial and it tasted like some sort of marinara/salsa hybrid that i never knew i craved

i am so hooked

sexy dander (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 9 July 2016 18:18 (seven years ago) link

That's exactly why I didn't care for it, it tastes like spaghetti sauce. Maybe it'd be better on tacos or something.

And time for my annual lament: I wish they'd bring back the vegan mochi.

Have you hugged your timeghoul today? (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Saturday, 9 July 2016 19:11 (seven years ago) link

their 'salsa autentica' has become my go-to store bought salsa. tasty, and seems to keep longer than most

skateboard of education (rip van wanko), Saturday, 9 July 2016 19:18 (seven years ago) link

I have the hot salsa especial on my breakfast tacos. It's great. It's not a good dipping salsa.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Saturday, 9 July 2016 19:33 (seven years ago) link

sounds about right. places that serve marinara-like salsa for dipping are bad

mh, Saturday, 9 July 2016 19:50 (seven years ago) link

or in the rare case, events like the time a friend and I ordered nachos and they accidentally brought the cheese stick dipping sauce, which was a chunky marinara

mh, Saturday, 9 July 2016 19:51 (seven years ago) link

the corn salsa & double roasted salsa are pretty good

much love to the tamales
it actually kind of smelled like a mexican restaurant by the time those babies were done in the microwave

calstars, Wednesday, 24 August 2016 00:31 (seven years ago) link

microwave salmon and orzo dinner - didn't expect good but I thought it might be a reasonable lunch option... nope, absolutely vile.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 24 August 2016 00:36 (seven years ago) link

king salmon on a cedar plate is excellent

brimstead, Wednesday, 24 August 2016 00:37 (seven years ago) link

the coconut salted caramel cookies are fine.

sarahell, Wednesday, 24 August 2016 01:17 (seven years ago) link

Cookie butter ice cream is pretty delish but wears out its welcome on the palate rather quickly
