chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 04:25 (twenty years ago) link

Has anybody heard the Mugger thing? I saw Aaron Dilloway last night, but didn't have any money to buy any records from him (he was fucking fantastic, btw).

hstencil, Sunday, 22 June 2003 17:01 (twenty years ago) link

i thought it was fucking hilarious

ssean, Sunday, 22 June 2003 17:04 (twenty years ago) link

the show or the record?

hstencil, Sunday, 22 June 2003 17:09 (twenty years ago) link

haha no the thread where aaron dilloway gets all cry-baby about to live and shave. 'mugger' is a monster not to be laughed at!

ssean, Sunday, 22 June 2003 17:14 (twenty years ago) link

uh, okay, I don't remember the thread, but that's cool. TLASILA rules too, btw.

hstencil, Sunday, 22 June 2003 17:17 (twenty years ago) link

when did mugger actually come out btw? i have it on bulb and it says 2003 but i'm not sure if that just refers to the reissue. it was def made before 'dread' right?

ssean, Sunday, 22 June 2003 17:19 (twenty years ago) link

the copy I saw last night said "recorded in March 2003."

hstencil, Sunday, 22 June 2003 17:27 (twenty years ago) link

haha yes the link to the aaron dilloway interjection to TLASILA thread thus:
to live & shave in L.A. what are they up to?
note my weakness and confusion. i was practically homeless roundabout then!
wolf eyes? dead hills ok. dread poo.

bob snoom, Sunday, 22 June 2003 17:46 (twenty years ago) link

YOU ARE COMPLETELY INSANE, MR. BOB SNOOM. Dread is great, just got finished listening to it.

hstencil, Sunday, 22 June 2003 17:47 (twenty years ago) link

oh dear...

bob snoom, Sunday, 22 June 2003 17:50 (twenty years ago) link

DUDE!< /mock indignation>

Seriously, though, I think Dread is great (as do a lot of others here, apparently). What about it do you not like?

hstencil, Sunday, 22 June 2003 17:54 (twenty years ago) link

well i just slung it on to see - it's not really bas per se it just takes ages of dicking around before the tunes DO anything. to me they are conjuring a "fischerspooner for daytime drinkers" vibe right now

bob snoom, Sunday, 22 June 2003 18:26 (twenty years ago) link

bas=bad

bob snoom, Sunday, 22 June 2003 18:27 (twenty years ago) link

'dead hills' is better

ssean, Sunday, 22 June 2003 18:27 (twenty years ago) link

Dread feels like an LP. Dead Hills feels like an EP.

Dead Hills and Black Dice - Lost Valley came out around the same time and would have made a good split.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Sunday, 22 June 2003 19:03 (twenty years ago) link

jon williams have you heard 'creature', black dice's new song yet? what do you think?

ssean, Sunday, 22 June 2003 19:07 (twenty years ago) link

no, I haven't where do I get this? What is it for?

Jon Williams (ex machina), Sunday, 22 June 2003 19:16 (twenty years ago) link

i think it's coming out on dfa backed with that eYe remix no? i got it off slsk

ssean, Sunday, 22 June 2003 19:24 (twenty years ago) link

The EyE mix didn't impress me

Jon Williams (ex machina), Sunday, 22 June 2003 19:27 (twenty years ago) link

I've realized my solo noise has fallen into Wolf Eyes cliche:

- Echoy, muddy vocals
- Slow plodding bass drum
- Hearing test blipping

Jon Williams (ex machina), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:02 (twenty years ago) link

jon, can i get a tape?

your null fame (yournullfame), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:06 (twenty years ago) link

I think my show on Thursday is going to be recorded, and probably released by IJustLiveHere (They also put out the Snug CDR which is ILXor Ian Johnson's noise stuff.)

Jon Williams (ex machina), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:18 (twenty years ago) link

oh, that's that japanese karaoke guy's label? rokk on!

your null fame (yournullfame), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:46 (twenty years ago) link

Did you see them? They're pretty good friends of mine (I drink all their beer).

Jon Williams (ex machina), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:59 (twenty years ago) link

no, we got the "afterlife experiment" cdr at my station. pretty fucked.

your null fame (yournullfame), Monday, 23 June 2003 14:58 (twenty years ago) link

haha dude, their whole name is Japanese Karaoke Afterlife Experiment. Their new stuff is a lot better than the CDR, there's vocals used on more stuff.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Monday, 23 June 2003 15:12 (twenty years ago) link

well, hell, man, the liner notes look like they were written by a crackhead. (though i did at first think it was JKAE not "AE" by JK, the guy who reviewed it assured everyone it was the latter...)

your null fame (yournullfame), Monday, 23 June 2003 15:14 (twenty years ago) link

Wolf Eyes absolutely killed at the Movement Festival (formerly the Detroit Electronic Music Festival) in Detroit Memorial Day weekend. They just played at a middle school for gifted children in a wealthy suburb or Detroit, but unfortunately I didn't make the show.

That is all.

Jeff Sumner (Jeff Sumner), Monday, 23 June 2003 15:18 (twenty years ago) link

I'd be interested to see this review. I haven't see the liner notes because there is at least four different versions of the CDR.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Monday, 23 June 2003 15:21 (twenty years ago) link

Jon,

Is anyone gonna release your and Ian's stuff?

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 23 June 2003 15:24 (twenty years ago) link

Ian samples it on his CD. I'm not really happy with the lack of stereo separation on the stuff we recorded with a room mic. A lot of it is boring. I think we might do some stuff with my current solo setup + his current solo setup. Then I'll cut up the earlier tracks. I don't know.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Monday, 23 June 2003 15:31 (twenty years ago) link

omg people really will listen to anything

chaki (chaki), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:27 (twenty years ago) link

people go to your shows right?

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:29 (twenty years ago) link

ouch!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:39 (twenty years ago) link

ouch? that aint shit.

chaki (chaki), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:53 (twenty years ago) link

hehe... anyone who claims the 805 is all right w/ me.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:57 (twenty years ago) link

omg i just read a website thats the history of "nardcore" (oxnard punk) it was like 805 pride all over the place

chaki (chaki), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:03 (twenty years ago) link

link please!

does it mention scott radinsky (major league baseball pitcher and teenage screamer for scared straight?)

i only got my "nardcore" jones as a youngster from rodney bingenheimer bootleg tapes that i'd buy via mailorder...

aside from scared straight, ill repute's "clean cut american kid" was the most memorable of all those tracks.

[funny thing, dilloway would love this thread now]

the wolf eyes side project violent ramp is pretty much riding the vibe of some of the nardcore "local apocalypse" action that comes through.

when i lived in ventura, i surfed hollywood-by-the-sea and silver strand a few times and never felt that heavy local scene that was infamous in the 80s.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:16 (twenty years ago) link

nice!

scott radinsky from simi valley! (like me) now in jock rock bands Pulley and Ten Foot Pole!

still tryin to find that link...

sort of on topic,
has anyone heard tan as fuck before?x new faggot cunts if anyone remembers them..
im doing a show for them in milwaukee when they come through on thursday (mossmaster from neon hunk is also playing)they rule

juiceboxxx (juiceboxxx), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:28 (twenty years ago) link

Tan as Fuck played the other night with the Dutchies (who I think they're touring with), myself, Noise Nomads and Japanese Karaoke Afterlife Experiment. They ruled. Noisy/droney/jazzy stuff. I'm not sure how much of it was improv and how much was written, but it was quite fun. Loud drones building to crescendos, jazzy drumming, sometimes bass or guitar. Totally cool in my book.

Ian Johnson, Monday, 23 June 2003 18:29 (twenty years ago) link

oh, and assuming the dutchies are playing also, they're a weird kind of Riot Grrl/Pop Punk thing. Like you'd expect to find on Kill Rock Stars about 7-8 years ago. Good, though. Nice girls and catchy toonz.

Ian Johnson, Monday, 23 June 2003 18:30 (twenty years ago) link

One of the girls from the dutchies was flirting with me :(

I was way too drunk!

Jon Williams (ex machina), Monday, 23 June 2003 18:42 (twenty years ago) link

yea the dutchies are playing too.im pumped!

juiceboxxx (juiceboxxx), Monday, 23 June 2003 19:01 (twenty years ago) link

omg i just read a website thats the history of "nardcore" (oxnard punk) it was like 805 pride all over the place

what the hell? everybody's all up in my hometown's crack.

Here's the Andrew WK thing if y'all wanna hear it.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Thursday, 24 July 2003 17:24 (twenty years ago) link

Wow,....So I just found this...and it's funny, cuz that thing about To live and Shave that was posted like two years ago, that yer'all talkin about was not posted by me...Anyone that knows me could tell you just by the writing that that was not me...funny though. I will say that the first To Live and Shave CD is probably my favorite recording of the 90's. But I did not even know about this board until like a week ago. Someone was using my name. Also, it is flattering to see all the nice things said about Wolf Eyes...We are a mess, but I'm glad that some of ya'll dig it.
lata,
A

Aaron Dilloway, Monday, 4 August 2003 06:41 (twenty years ago) link

Hey dude from Wolf Eyes,

You should play Rochester, NY again cause I'm moving there soon, so now with Pengoo there's like over 10 people who would go to the show.

K THX!!!!

Jon Williams (ex machina), Monday, 4 August 2003 10:05 (twenty years ago) link

six months pass...
