I tried to focus more on offense, every year I find I'm struggling on offense and wasting my good pitching (only two more years of Kershaw carrying my team!)

Hopefully at least one of my post-hype prospects pan out (Bauer, Castellanos) for future keeperables.

Finnegan will be starting with the Reds this year, he's young, and has been really good in his limited time in the majors. Unfortunately he's been getting shelled in spring training and will be pitching half of his games in a HR launching pad, but it's not like any of my other keeper eligibles were a surer thing.

francisF, Monday, 4 April 2016 16:22 (eight years ago) link

I saw that, I see the appeal but I'm more desperate for pitching tbh.

also apologies to the other person who sent me an offer that i never responded to, i was trying to think of a counter offer that worked for both of us but then i got drunk a few times

pitching i definitely cannot help with haha

although i think it's a missed opportunity, i appreciate the speedy reply! offer is still on the table.

I'll take this opportunity to offer up OF/SS Ian Desmond for 3B/Pitching help

I'm less happy (Greinke got routed by the Rockies).

I'm in first place though! The season isn't a total failure, no matter what happens from here on out.

My team has fallen off a cliff in the past four days -- I dropped from second to a distant fifth, and lost 30 points in the standings.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 22 May 2016 10:42 (seven years ago) link

After a 7 HR, 17 RBI day, HOMERBAiLi now has 133.5 out of a maximum possible 154 points. I think the rest of us can officially declare that the battle for second place is ON.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Wednesday, 1 June 2016 09:37 (seven years ago) link

i might actually have a shot at second place if my starting pitching wasn't such inconsistent trash! way to waste some great offense, fellas.

nomar, Wednesday, 1 June 2016 14:42 (seven years ago) link

This is the third year in a row I've had a commanding lead on first place going into June only to fall apart over the next four months so don't count out touchdown everyone-else

Nomar and I have the same problems. I couldn't have asked for much more from my offense, but my starting pitching stinks. Without Kershaw I would be in last place in almost every pitching category.

my SPs are all basically guys who are too potentially good to outright drop, too mediocre to rely on, and too weak to dangle as decent trade bait. Plus my best RP is pitching for a team that doesn't give him save opps.

nomar, Saturday, 4 June 2016 15:50 (seven years ago) link

i think losing Pollock hurt a bit but it's also highlighting the importance of landing a true #1 pitcher, last year I had scherzer (plus good Sonny Gray.) keeping my fingers crossed that Kluber turns it on at some point, he seems pretty unlucky this year. But despite the Cy Young award he's not a guy to anchor a winning FBB rotation.

nomar, Saturday, 4 June 2016 15:55 (seven years ago) link

should be ok tho, since we got SV+H now?

Mad Piratical (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 6 June 2016 01:33 (seven years ago) link

the importance of landing a true #1 pitcher

If anything this year for me is highlighting the importance of getting lucky with pitchers more than anything...

Two years ago I drafted pitching pretty hard with Wainwright, Salazar, Hamels, Sonny Gray, and kept Ryu... not so good. Gray was p good, Wainwright was p good, but Salazar crashed and burned that year, Hamels and Ryu underwhelming.

Last year I drafted Lester, Hughes, Samardzija, and then waited on my other dudes. Had Hughes kept up his incredible K/BB game up and Samardzija hadn't sucked out loud, i would've done better again, but... it was not meant to be.

This year I was risky AGAIN with pitching, not picking one until Cueto, then Liriano, Darvish, Matz, and finally Nola in the last round... for once, I'm actually getting amazing results. Nola and Matz in particular have been absolute steals, to the point where I was comfortable dropping an expensive but underwhelming Liriano fairly early. Cueto also hasn't disappointed.

Basically for pitching: if you pay a lot for it, your batting pays, but it doesn't always make the pitching work out.

That said, I have the champagniest of champagne problems this year... I have no idea who to keep for next year! Goldschmidt and either Belt or Kenley... and three of Harper, Arenado, Betts, Matz, Nola, Arcia and Franco. Harper's a lock, Arenado and Betts are borderline locks, but Nola and Matz have been SO GOOD and who even knows, maybe Arcia ends up being this year's Carlos Correa...

three weeks pass...

Was 1.5 GB out of 1st place. now I'm 3.5GB and failed to realize my Ace-in-the-hole is making his first start tonight! Look out for the Lonelys, we're not even at full steam yet :D

Really, I just want to beat Lincecumlords; he's been coming on pretty hard since that savvy Edwin pickup :P (I have Chris Carter now by the way lol)

Do you guys use Yahoo Fantasy Baseball? It bugs me that they give you so much info on each player and game, including ratings of how well a player is expected to do in that day's game, but they don't tell you which starting pitcher they're facing that day. So you have to open MLB.com in a separate tab to get that info.
