Dory Previn: S/D?

The cosmic irony involved in "Beware of Young Girls" is astounding. The song is Dory Previn's take on twenty-four year old Mia Farrow's home-wrecking, and the fact that the act of husband-thievery came from a seemingly innocent family friend whom she would have never suspect. Well, Mia Farrow did steal Andre Previn away from Dory and the new couple soon adopted a young Korean girl who would go by the name Soon-Yi Previn - the same Soon-Yi who of course would later steal Woody Allen from adoptive mom Mia Farrow.

Eerie. I just posted a link to her song "Mary C. Brown and the Hollywood Sign" two days ago in the "women sing about death" thread.

three years pass...

there was a dory previn article in a recent pitchfork review (written by a friend of mine) -- i spent some time digging into her discography. pretty strange stuff! but kinda good. and as the article suggests, it's a little bit hard to imagine it becoming "cool" again.

been listening to the 2nd disc and it has presumably most of the '58 Dory Langdon lp on. It's nice jazzy stuff but too different to the 70s stuff. Destroys the flow.
I may need to get the 2fers of the lps still.

Interesting to see some of the other composers she wrote lyrics for, such as Harold Arlen.
