Someone was asking for this in another thread and I could find it. 2012 poll that was partly organized by late great and then completed by me, I'm sure we have an archive somewhere of every link of every collective poll that has been done but I couldn't find it. Posting here for future reference:

RESULTS (of the very nebulously defined) 110 ELECTRONIC DANCE TRACKS of the 00s

ILM Ballot Polls: where to find the results threads

A lot of the results links on these messages

Mark G, Thursday, 10 March 2016 10:52 (eight years ago) link

And here's a thread that tries to list all of ILX's ballot poll result threads:

The ILX List of Lists

Tuomas, Thursday, 10 March 2016 10:55 (eight years ago) link

Yes those are the ones! I couldn't find them.

Guys/gals need your opinion, which one of these do you like better:

In my opinion: First option without the album cover is cleaner and the only reference to the album covers will be the color palette below the song title which will be based on the album/ep/single's palette. Problem is that a thread with 50+ of these with subtle variations could be boring and I don't have the time to design a radically different banner for each song (would love to). Option 2 adds the cover but I'm not sure if it's too much.

I like #2

Yoshimi P-We's Playhouse (WilliamC), Saturday, 19 March 2016 21:31 (eight years ago) link

those both look pretty stylish! i am not a stereolab diehard, so take this with a grain of salt - i would say it's always neat to have the album cover, though i agree that the one without it is a tauter design. the text on the "points" line in the album-cover version seems pretty small though. maybe only the "credit" line wants to be that small? but i know these things are tricky to work out.

also, something about the font, gray background, and the gradient color sampler makes me think of Centrum brand vitamins but that is almost certainly just me.

never ending bath infusion (Doctor Casino), Saturday, 19 March 2016 21:31 (eight years ago) link

Yeah the idea was to make these look like vintage pharma products so Centrum is not a bad reference. Also don't mind the font weights on #2 I still haven't adapted them, just looking at proportions.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 19 March 2016 21:39 (eight years ago) link

I agree that the design without sleeves is neater and nicer, but the second design has greater functionality, so I'd probably opt for that if pushed.

emil.y, Saturday, 19 March 2016 22:00 (eight years ago) link

Both are excellent, though, and either would be awesome to see on a poll.

emil.y, Saturday, 19 March 2016 22:01 (eight years ago) link

I prefer the second option, as well.

Austin, Saturday, 19 March 2016 22:26 (eight years ago) link

I prefer the first for its cleanliness, but what do I know ("Like hey, maybe you could do a cool gradient overlay with the album cover!").

Sorry To Be The Bearer Of Bad Poos (Leee), Sunday, 20 March 2016 00:42 (eight years ago) link

Could we see a couple more looks? More of a cool palette perhaps? And a pointier typeface?

kornrulez6969, Sunday, 20 March 2016 03:58 (eight years ago) link

Just kidding

kornrulez6969, Sunday, 20 March 2016 04:00 (eight years ago) link

I actually have two very different looks that I'm trying. I was thinking of doing 50 different designs but again not enough time :/

✖✖✖ (Moka), Sunday, 20 March 2016 19:14 (eight years ago) link

Well I think both are fantastic and it's got me super excited for Stereoloab.

Austin, Sunday, 20 March 2016 19:48 (eight years ago) link

Here's another copied from Julian House (Stereolab's designer):

✖✖✖ (Moka), Sunday, 20 March 2016 22:58 (eight years ago) link

That was the initial sketch, then I thought maybe it could be cool doing several Julian House inspired/copied designs but again, too much time to do individual designs even if they're copied.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Sunday, 20 March 2016 23:00 (eight years ago) link

Lol, one reason (of several) I bailed out of doing polls is because everybody has raised the rollout images game so much, and I felt unworthy with my text-only results.

Yoshimi P-We's Playhouse (WilliamC), Sunday, 20 March 2016 23:13 (eight years ago) link

You could always ask for help! I wss going to help Nate with the Smiths poll but JF helped instead. I'm sure there are a couple of us who would be willing to do some quick designs.

Even better would be to have a template exclusive of ILM artist polls that we could all use and edit easily, something simple that could fit in every poll.

All said and done I don't mind one bit text only results.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Sunday, 20 March 2016 23:27 (eight years ago) link

I like that last one.

Mark G, Sunday, 20 March 2016 23:38 (eight years ago) link

I totally leaned on ledge's images for the Autechre poll! Otherwise I just post some hueg pictures with some Impact font on it.

Sorry To Be The Bearer Of Bad Poos (Leee), Sunday, 20 March 2016 23:40 (eight years ago) link

I prefer yesterday but they are probably more work.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 21 March 2016 00:37 (eight years ago) link

I drifted off of this thread due to lack of time but I am glad to see that Drugs A. Money has apparently taken on the Royal Trux poll, which I am still excited for but would definitely run with like text-only results

the 'major tom guy' (sleeve), Monday, 21 March 2016 01:17 (eight years ago) link

Ok, now that the Nomination/voting thread for Bauhaus is over can I start the Stereolab voting thread so I can rollout results as soon as the Bauhaus results are over? Or how does it work?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 21 March 2016 18:43 (eight years ago) link

Also I see the usual is top 20 songs and top 5 albums. The scoring that mostly every poll has used for songs is as follows:

Scoring [1:40, 2:36, 3:33, 4:30, 5:28, 6:26, 7:25, 8:24, 9:23, 10:22, 11:21, 12:20, 13:19, 14:18, 15:17, 16:16, 17:15, 18:14, 19:13, 20:12 ]

but what about the top 5 albums? is it: 1:40, 2:36, 3:33, 4:30, 5:28?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 21 March 2016 18:53 (eight years ago) link

You get to choose

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Monday, 21 March 2016 19:37 (eight years ago) link

I've used the same scores for the top 5 albums as the top five songs in the past. There's a link to my Smiths spreadsheet near the end of the Smiths results thread, feel free to use that if you like.

nate woolls, Monday, 21 March 2016 20:07 (eight years ago) link

Thanks nate!

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 21 March 2016 20:07 (eight years ago) link

Who is up next?

kornrulez6969, Saturday, 2 April 2016 16:43 (eight years ago) link

Hendrix or Can would be great!

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 2 April 2016 18:50 (eight years ago) link

70s lite rock going from the enemy to ironic "yacht rock" to essential.

That's a good one.

― Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Tuesday, April 5, 2016 2:17 PM (6 minutes ago)

I'd love to see AM Gold as a companion to some dude's classic rock poll.

Honor thy pisstake as a hidden intention. (WilliamC), Tuesday, 5 April 2016 19:27 (eight years ago) link

That's gonna be a sweet poll, but isn't it a little ways down in the queue?

never ending bath infusion (Doctor Casino), Tuesday, 5 April 2016 20:03 (eight years ago) link

Ha, I didn't even realize somebody had already gotten in line for that.

Honor thy pisstake as a hidden intention. (WilliamC), Tuesday, 5 April 2016 20:08 (eight years ago) link

It was floated somewhere in the midst of the some dude classic rock ballot/rollout period. Man, what a summer that was.

never ending bath infusion (Doctor Casino), Tuesday, 5 April 2016 21:09 (eight years ago) link

So Stereolab poll is almost over, who's next?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 7 April 2016 22:03 (eight years ago) link

The queue is basically just a suggestion at this point. If no one steps up in the next day or two, I might get Van Halen underway.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 7 April 2016 22:14 (eight years ago) link

Well, it'd still be appropriate to try and bug whoever's actually next - gr8080 for hard rock/hair metal, Gukbe for Stephen Merritt, or Billy Dods for Fairport, unless I missed those. If they're in the weeds or out to sea, it'd be Z S for Can, some dude for Hendrix, NickB for Genesis, or Veg for Pearl Jam.

never ending bath infusion (Doctor Casino), Thursday, 7 April 2016 22:20 (eight years ago) link

Well, like I said, I'm not gonna muscle anyone out of my way, but if no one ahead of me is ready to go, I'm actually in a good spot to run one over the next 2-3 weeks.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 7 April 2016 22:22 (eight years ago) link

people put their names on this list so long ago, it's really hard rounding them up/reminding them tbh

I'll be very busy in the next month because it's again national fair month and the bar/club I open in the zone is very time consuming this month, but I'll be open afterwards to run the hendrix or can poll if ZS and somedude don't jump in :)

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 7 April 2016 22:33 (eight years ago) link
