Wait...are we talking Dirty Rotten Imbeciles? I barely know that band, though I know their name.

Gross Chapel British Grenadiers (Bimble), Monday, 13 April 2009 08:30 (7 years ago) Permalink

Yes, of course.

tuppence b. bag (roxymuzak), Monday, 13 April 2009 08:30 (7 years ago) Permalink

Sigh. Oh man, I need to get my shit in gear then. See this is what happened to me with that other punk band...Rudimentary Peni. I didn't hear them for years and years and then I found I liked them a lot. Can you recommend me an album of DRI?

Gross Chapel British Grenadiers (Bimble), Monday, 13 April 2009 08:32 (7 years ago) Permalink

Shit, you like Rudimentary Peni!?

I would recommend the Dirty Rotten LP over just about anything and in just about any situation, to anyone.

Also, lol @ a 22 song EP:

should have probably posted this picture, actually:

Hahahaha I'll look for it! But with all due respect, something that has 22 songs on it can't possibly be an EP, right? I mean if you're past 5 or 6 songs...and they called it an EP? That's hilarious!

Gross Chapel British Grenadiers (Bimble), Monday, 13 April 2009 08:38 (7 years ago) Permalink

It was only 18 minutes long.

Gross Chapel British Grenadiers (Bimble), Monday, 13 April 2009 10:17 (7 years ago) Permalink

I don't know, I'm not up on that crypt tonight.

tuppence b. bag (roxymuzak), Monday, 13 April 2009 10:18 (7 years ago) Permalink

Yeah dude, this is the kind of stuff that takes me back to when I was 13 or 14 years old. Haha I love this kind of shit. Good god.

My vote goes to "Dealing With It"

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 13 April 2009 12:08 (7 years ago) Permalink

I was getting out, without a doubt
This was my last patrol, wished I could shout
But then the reds were there
We were taking our share
Fifteen to thirty, but fair is fair
I was fighting wild, shooting blind
Nothing I could do, nowhere I could go
Someone yelled, "Keep your head down low!"
I heard men crying, knew they were dying
And for the first time, I realized
My sergeant lied!

On my way home in a body bag
A one-way ticket, but I couldn't brag
I was seeing green, seeing red
With an aching, throbbing, emptiness in my head
Trying to breathe, I fought for air
I was alive, but nobody cared
We left the planet
Then we had landed
Soon picked up by an army truck
Someone gave me a shovel and told me to dig
I said, "FUCK OFF AND DIE, CAPITALIST PIG!"

DIE PIG!

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 13 April 2009 12:18 (7 years ago) Permalink

I only know the 1st 2 - which are hard to choose between, the 1st is more manic thrash while the 2nd is a bit tighter and more metallic.

I've always heard the rest suck, but then I also know a lot of punk fans don't even like Dealing With It, so for all I know the later ones could be good too.

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP TO (Colonel Poo), Monday, 13 April 2009 13:27 (7 years ago) Permalink

There's some good stuff on the crossover albums, but mostly it's not as fun. "Dead in a Ditch" from 4-of-a-Kind is one of their best though.

doobieborther, Monday, 13 April 2009 13:45 (7 years ago) Permalink

I'm choosing the Violent Pacification e.p., and you can't stop me.

Alex in NYC, Monday, 13 April 2009 14:19 (7 years ago) Permalink

I love the DRLP and Dealing With It, but you just can't fuck with the original.

yeah that vote distribution reflects my taste pretty well, although if it was a 5 star scale both the debut and Dealing would get 5.

I do so love the acapella verse of "That Makes Sense"

Does anyone have their Beer City LP reissues? I listened to the first album for a second in the record store after finding it used, and it sounded like SHIT from what I could tell. Way worse than the CD copy I had a long time ago. Could have been the headphones and/or turntable -- second opinions?

Reatards Unite, Sunday, 5 June 2011 16:53 (4 years ago) Permalink

tbh I all I've got is the CDs but I just saw DRI 2 nights in a row and they were fucking awesome OK last night they only played for half an hour but tonight they ripped it

a fucking stove just fell on my foot. (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 18 June 2011 02:13 (4 years ago) Permalink

OK last night they only played for half an hour

Did they play both of their first two albums or half of their last one?

Missed the poll.

Had to be Dealing with it.

Seriously superb album. Hardcore at it's best." Snap, I'd rather be sleeping,Couch slouch, slit my wrists, I don't need society etc"

I CAN'T EVEN BELIEVE I GET TO SEE THIS BAND

(in April, but still!)

I would recommend the Dirty Rotten LP over just about anything and in just about any situation, to anyone.

now and eternally OTM

the 'major tom guy' (sleeve), Friday, 5 February 2016 04:54 (2 months ago) Permalink

I have all their albums from Dealing With It through Thrash Zone. I guess the Dirty Rotten LP is songs from Dealing With It in demo form or something? This wasn't available when I was a young thrasher punk buying tapes at the mall. Worth hearing, I guess?

Jimmywine Dyspeptic, Friday, 5 February 2016 15:49 (2 months ago) Permalink

Oh and I missed the poll but based on those four, I'd go with DWI

Jimmywine Dyspeptic, Friday, 5 February 2016 15:51 (2 months ago) Permalink

lots of songs not on DWI iirc, wouldn't call them "demo" form cuz it is really their 1st full length but they are rawer & less produced, you need it.

the 'major tom guy' (sleeve), Friday, 5 February 2016 15:53 (2 months ago) Permalink

When I was a kid, I had both and preferred Dealing With It! There was a lot of overlap between the two, especially when the first LP was bundled with the Violent Pacification EP. Listen to it, it won't take too much time out of your day or anything.

And in other news, here's You Say I'm Scum, which I never had as a kid because I had the cassette.

how's life, Friday, 5 February 2016 15:58 (2 months ago) Permalink

man do I regret selling my original 7" of Violent Pacification

the 'major tom guy' (sleeve), Friday, 5 February 2016 16:01 (2 months ago) Permalink

Interesting story about me and DRI: In 6th grade, a friend got really into them, and to try to get me to like them, he lent me the inlay card of the cassette for the day. I spent most of that school day reading the tiny printed lyrics on the j-card, so I was way more familiar with the lyrics before I even heard the band! Of all the ways I've gotten into bands (especially punk / hc / metal bands), that's one of the more unorthodox.

Of course, when I did finally hear the album, as soon as "Snap" started, I knew it was gonna be my new favorite band. I can still recite the lyrics to a lot of these songs.

Kinda strange how DRI lyrics got dumber and dumber over the years.

Jimmywine Dyspeptic, Friday, 5 February 2016 16:06 (2 months ago) Permalink

ha, was just telling my wife "I know every single word to all of these songs" last night

I am a purist snob who has never even listened to Crossover, should I try it?

the 'major tom guy' (sleeve), Friday, 5 February 2016 16:12 (2 months ago) Permalink

I dunno. It was a pretty steep decline iirc. I actually prefer Four Of A Kind to Crossover. "Suit and Tie Guy" is a good one, and "Dead In A Ditch."
