If you are a single hetero male comedian w your own TV show, you probably will be dating lots of women on your show. Look at Seinfeld.

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 18:24 (eight years ago) link

does his character have a tv show?

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 9 February 2016 18:24 (eight years ago) link

oh nm I see what you're saying, it's just the nature of the medium/topic

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 9 February 2016 18:25 (eight years ago) link

I mean what do you want him to write about, doing his taxes?

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 18:26 (eight years ago) link

yup that's all single white guys do, fuck lots of random women + taxes

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 9 February 2016 18:27 (eight years ago) link

yeah, fuck taxes

Evan, Tuesday, 9 February 2016 18:31 (eight years ago) link

C'mon, man, that's such a stereotype. I hardly ever did taxes when I was single.

maybe my clam is just more toxic (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 18:32 (eight years ago) link

I mean go to the club, obviously. Fuck the taxes.

Second ep moved at a glacial pace

calstars, Saturday, 13 February 2016 22:43 (eight years ago) link

steven wright is p. good in this

Option ARMs and de Man (s.clover), Sunday, 14 February 2016 23:20 (eight years ago) link

skipped the 2nd ep but the third was pretty impressive

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 15 February 2016 00:05 (eight years ago) link

p. impressive is an understatement.

Option ARMs and de Man (s.clover), Monday, 15 February 2016 21:59 (eight years ago) link

just a massive leap in quality from the first two.

Option ARMs and de Man (s.clover), Monday, 15 February 2016 21:59 (eight years ago) link

yeah the extended duologue format is a way better fit, plus Laurie Metcalf killed it

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 15 February 2016 22:27 (eight years ago) link

good lord yes.
metcalf is secretly among the greatest actors of her generation.
this third ep easily justifies all the fumbling of the first two and it was exactly what I was looking for from this exercise.

ulysses, Tuesday, 16 February 2016 01:15 (eight years ago) link

like "louie" i think there's more punch in having the show meander and flop around and then occasionally pull into something laser-focused and ambitious like this.

Option ARMs and de Man (s.clover), Wednesday, 17 February 2016 00:32 (eight years ago) link

haven't watched the second episode yet and haven't heard a good thing about it. can I skip right to the third?

Clay, Wednesday, 17 February 2016 00:38 (eight years ago) link

Yes, though i thought it was okay.
I like the lange character

i believe that (s)he is sincere (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 17 February 2016 05:16 (eight years ago) link

I'd watch the second tho it meanders. Wright is good and it establishes a bunch of stuff which i imagine will pay off later. Helps a little even with the setup for the third, tho the first gets you most of the way there.

one month passes...

Watched episode 5 tonight. This has become my favorite non-TV, TV show right now.

Steven Wright is so great.

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 13 April 2016 07:45 (eight years ago) link

CK tells Howard Stern he's losing millions on this, the former seems basically unconcerned.

ulysses, Wednesday, 13 April 2016 13:21 (eight years ago) link

I ended up pretty much loving this, though it would have been way better had CK cast a real actor instead of himself (though he's sometimes fine)

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 13 April 2016 14:48 (eight years ago) link

everybody on this show sounds like Louis CK talking to himself so subbing in another actor would not have made a noticeable difference to me

ejemplo (crüt), Wednesday, 13 April 2016 14:49 (eight years ago) link

two weeks pass...

louie pulled the interview circuit superfecta now of talking abt this on howard, maron, bill simmons, & Charlie rose in the span of a few wks

The full ginsburg

Blowout Coombes (President Keyes), Thursday, 28 April 2016 16:26 (seven years ago) link

he's lost money on the project and now it's done; I presume he's trying to get it sold to a network now.

ulysses, Thursday, 28 April 2016 16:58 (seven years ago) link

He's selling the whole series for $31/pop, and then will sell it to Netflix or other later. It doesn't sound like he's scrambling to cover his ass - he wanted to release something without context before doing press, same as Bey et al.

... (Eazy), Thursday, 28 April 2016 17:06 (seven years ago) link

did anyone watch them all? I wasn't really impressed w what I saw

Οὖτις, Thursday, 28 April 2016 17:08 (seven years ago) link

I did, if you get to ep 3 and don't like it you should probably stop

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 28 April 2016 17:11 (seven years ago) link

yea its not really accurate to say hes lost money & its only done to the extent he hasn't decided if he wants to continue it

I want to watch it but will just wait til whenever he sells it to a service

johnny crunch, Thursday, 28 April 2016 17:55 (seven years ago) link

I purchased the whole thing and absolutely loved it. "if you get to ep 3 and don't like it you should probably stop" is OTM advice.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 28 April 2016 18:45 (seven years ago) link

Loved the first ep, keep meaning to get around to the rest.

just her neck. thankig u in advance (stevie), Friday, 29 April 2016 09:53 (seven years ago) link

It felt a little like some album where a load of virtuoso musicians came out and showed you how good they were at playing, but for acting. But I didn't feel it was self-indulgent at all, it was just like a great showcase for some great performances. It felt stagey and theatrical in the best way.

two months pass...

Saw him last night and he absolutely killed. A master at the height of his powers.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Saturday, 23 July 2016 14:05 (seven years ago) link

More than most comedians he seems to have a real knack for reinventing his sets, and instinctively knows when to put other projects on hold. So he does his show for a while, then stops, then tours, then starts a new show, then stops, then tours. I've seen him a few times, and only once was he less than his best.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 23 July 2016 14:45 (seven years ago) link

i have tickets to the MSG show (first floor seats in the garden!); this'll be the fourth tour for me. He's consistently very good and it's best not to try to retell his jokes.

thrusted pelvis-first back (ulysses), Saturday, 23 July 2016 16:27 (seven years ago) link

V true. His best material from last night was pretty much impossible to relay to anyone.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Sunday, 24 July 2016 02:44 (seven years ago) link

six months pass...

holy shit, horace and pete is a masterpiece. third episode is astounding (as mentioned above), but not necessarily a giant leap from the first two (as also mentioned above). i didn't watch it when it came out because i didn't want to pay (sorry) and i didn't feel like downloading, but it's on hulu now for those with that option.

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 14 February 2017 21:57 (seven years ago) link

one month passes...

his new standup special is great - starts and ends abruptly and maintains that weird balance of incredibly dark + goofiness that he's good at.

Οὖτις, Thursday, 6 April 2017 20:40 (seven years ago) link

eh, I found it pretty hit and miss. When it was good it was quality though.

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Thursday, 6 April 2017 20:42 (seven years ago) link

Do appreciate his thoughtful approach to comedy overall

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Thursday, 6 April 2017 20:44 (seven years ago) link

is the bit about orpheus in there?

Bobson Dugnutt (ulysses), Thursday, 6 April 2017 20:55 (seven years ago) link

sorry, achilles rather

Bobson Dugnutt (ulysses), Thursday, 6 April 2017 20:55 (seven years ago) link

Yeah it is

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Thursday, 6 April 2017 21:01 (seven years ago) link

i thought it was his darkest standup yet (last thing he did was Horace & Pete) but very good.... just hope he's ok!

flopson, Thursday, 6 April 2017 21:04 (seven years ago) link

it is v dark but not uncharacteristically so imo

sweet to see it dedicated to Garry Shandling at the end

Οὖτις, Thursday, 6 April 2017 21:08 (seven years ago) link

he definitely frontloads it with the darkest stuff

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 6 April 2017 21:17 (seven years ago) link

the email chunk is still p funny

I also laughed a lot @ the magic mike > boyfriend stuff

johnny crunch, Friday, 7 April 2017 12:57 (seven years ago) link
