yeahh
seems like it's
Djungelns Lag = 2LP
Mors, Mors = 2LP
Kom Tillsammans = 2LP
?
and then the CD version is just Djungelns Lag + Mors, Mors?
lamesville, I can't afford these vinyl box sets!

Phil F. suggested that it means the vinyl set is the only way to get the unreleased stuff ON vinyl, whereas the CDs for each release will be sold separately. It is pretty damn strangely worded.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 26 January 2016 19:03 (eight years ago) link

hmm yeah maybe!

tylerw, Tuesday, 26 January 2016 19:07 (eight years ago) link

Actually, I don't think the CDs will be individually packaged, either - I think it's just a 3CD set. I'm in, though. (I've emailed the label about getting an advance so I can pitch a review to The Wire, of course.)

the top man in the language department (誤訳侮辱), Tuesday, 26 January 2016 19:29 (eight years ago) link

that's fine - if it's a 3CD set w/ everything for $20, it's a steal.

tylerw, Tuesday, 26 January 2016 19:34 (eight years ago) link

Absolutely. And I'm as excited about the remastered albums as the new material - my copies of those are MP3s sourced from old vinyl.

Completely agreed. Just finally got the Parson Sound comp properly a couple of months back as well.

three weeks pass...

neat!

Been making my way through the box for several days, off and on--so far (heard about 3/4), about an hour's worth really grabbed me, but the rest either starts well, then loses the momentum, or fades out too soon, or seems utterly predictable, in that jam band way, from any era--or just seems inconsequential, at least to non-specialist ears (that nevertheless have listened to lots and lots of jams, in my case). But I'll keep listening; it ain't painful (I've heard much, much worse).

adam, Saturday, 20 February 2016 01:12 (eight years ago) link

Is there anything on the box as good as this? Because this is all I've ever wanted / needed by *Trad Gras:

*(International Harvester and Parson Sound is another matter)

i just bought the 3CD set from mexican summer/archive for 20 bucks. i felt like that was the nice price. the two 2-album sets are almost 30 each and the box is like 80 bucks. viva CD!

I guess CD version has like 30 minutes less of music than the LPs/mp3s, but otherwise CD is a steal.

Yeah, I was wondering about this - the publicist sent me the full digital package, but it would have been a 4CD set for sure if everything was available physically.

the top man in the language department (誤訳侮辱), Saturday, 9 April 2016 17:14 (eight years ago) link

Yeah it's a little bummer that CD loses out on the 17 minute version of "The Last Time", but nearly four hours seems like plenty of music to me.

One bad call from barely losing to (Alex in SF), Saturday, 9 April 2016 17:34 (eight years ago) link

does the LP set have split tracks (i.e spread over 2 sides) like the Parson Sound 3LP?

the 'major tom guy' (sleeve), Saturday, 9 April 2016 17:37 (eight years ago) link

It does.

One bad call from barely losing to (Alex in SF), Saturday, 9 April 2016 18:31 (eight years ago) link

thanks, I hate that

the 'major tom guy' (sleeve), Saturday, 9 April 2016 18:37 (eight years ago) link

Did that extended Last Time already appear as bonus material on a previous version of Mors Mors? Cos I think I have at least one extended version of it. Not sure where my cd is though.

Stevolende, Saturday, 9 April 2016 18:47 (eight years ago) link

i think the 3CD thing will be plenty of jammage for me.

scott seward, Saturday, 9 April 2016 19:08 (eight years ago) link

apologies if this has been covered already but is the sound better on the CDs?

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Saturday, 9 April 2016 19:50 (eight years ago) link

The remastering of the old albums definitely improves the sound where it's possible to improve it - however, some of the recordings are barely above bootleg quality, and always were, so you get what you were gonna get there.

the top man in the language department (誤訳侮辱), Saturday, 9 April 2016 19:59 (eight years ago) link

True. Sound quality of the promo digital is very reasonable considering the sources. Music quality, like I said upthread: less could def be more. But it's good to be able to choose your own keepers and sell the originals (not xpost $80-worth good though; jeez)

dow, Saturday, 9 April 2016 21:53 (eight years ago) link

i know totally sane people who absolutely WORSHIP these people. a lot of freaky musicians i know, for instance.

scott seward, Saturday, 9 April 2016 22:04 (eight years ago) link

thanks, this is what i expected

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Sunday, 10 April 2016 01:40 (eight years ago) link

xpost Scott (but also applies to sound quality discussion) No doubt, and everybody should enjoy as much of it (and a lot of other things)as they can, for as long as they can. (PS: by "the originals," I meant purchases, not trying to do anything with the promo downloads)

dow, Sunday, 10 April 2016 01:43 (eight years ago) link

one month passes...

this 3CD thing is packed with so many jams.

tylerw, Tuesday, 17 May 2016 20:02 (seven years ago) link

i know i already asked about the sound quality but

can someone who has heard these CDs tell me specifically if the drums are more audible?
i like to play along with this band sometimes and usually when i play with a recording, i can easily hear distinctions between what i'm playing and what is on the recording* but with their songs (and international harvester in partic) i can't. either i am the second coming of thomas 'mera' gartz (extremely unlikely) or the drums are barely audible

*first, i am not that good and second, sometimes i like to play a differently accented beat

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Tuesday, 17 May 2016 20:25 (seven years ago) link

i'm about 2/3 through and the drums are definitely audible. sound quality is better than i expected, really! seriously it is great -- definitely worth the $20.

tylerw, Tuesday, 17 May 2016 20:27 (seven years ago) link

yeah, the CDs sounded good to me. i'm glad they had the option. get a little bummed when there is no normal option and only some extra-deluxe thing.

scott seward, Tuesday, 17 May 2016 20:30 (seven years ago) link

ok thank you
sold!

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Tuesday, 17 May 2016 20:30 (seven years ago) link

vinyl box is sold out, i think. but the cd set and the individual albums still available.

scott seward, Tuesday, 17 May 2016 20:35 (seven years ago) link

CD set is better for driving purposes

tylerw, Tuesday, 17 May 2016 20:36 (seven years ago) link

and as noted, like $60 cheaper

tylerw, Tuesday, 17 May 2016 20:36 (seven years ago) link

a thousand boxed sets. that's impressive. they are already going for more than retail online.

scott seward, Tuesday, 17 May 2016 20:38 (seven years ago) link

yeah the CD box is amazing, sounds great, total jams, highly recommended

Well I didn't expect this but just announced:

http://forcedexposure.com/Catalog/trad-gras-och-stenar-tack-for-kaffet-thanks-for-the-coffee-cd/SUBL.119CD.html

The long-awaited new album from the legendary pioneers of transcendental psychedelic rock music and DIY culture in general. Tack För Kaffet (Thanks For The Coffee) is a tribute to the deceased band members and dearest friends Torbjörn Abelli and Thomas Mera Gartz. It becomes something of a farewell show for the old Träd, Gräs Och Stenar because all the old and new members, including founder Bo Anders, Torbjörn and Mera, and Reine Fiske (Dungen, The Amazing), are all contributing to this album. The sounds were captured on tape in their music workshop in the countryside and consists mainly of improvised moments where the sounds travels beyond time and space, something that has been TGS hallmark over the years. Perhaps there's a form of melancholy over some of the album, much depending on how cruelly and suddenly Mera and Torbjörn passed away, but also on a little lighter and crazier whim. Everything is recorded live so there are no euphemistic circumstances, rather everything is pared down, bared bone drones, sounds traveling in the magical improvised unknown with no makeup, just as life can be when the feeling has control. A manifestation of improvised timelessly organic music and free creation. Real life!

one year passes...

guess what
i played three versions of "all along the watchtower" (dylan, hendrix, these guys) for my students and which one did they like the best? this one!! they said it sounded "like it was supposed to" (dirgey?) and one student wisely noted, after i told her what the band's name translated to, that it sounded "earthy"

even the 20 year old liked it!
