Bands that EVERYONE loves

I'm more mystified that people keep bringing up bands (Yo La Tengo, EC, Talking Heads, etc.) who have already been unceremoniously drummed out of the running... however yes, obviously the answer is "no" there is no band that everyone loves because there's always someone like Geir with a weird politico-aesthetic agenda who will refuse to see any value in a given canonical performer. With Geir its James Brown, with dance-lovin indie haterz its probably the Velvets or something...

has anyone tried ESG? they are very loveable.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 6 July 2006 21:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Of course (Shakey). And weird politico-aesthetic agendas aside, James Brown is still probably the closest any musical demi-god will ever come to being universally loved here.

yep

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 6 July 2006 21:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Deee-Lite, obviously.

On the basis that everyone can only remember one song by them, and everyone likes it, I'd go along with this.

I am pretty sure that everyone here like at least some of The Beatles' output. Doesn't mean they all love them though.

I don't like the Beatles.

I'm not sure whether I could say I love bands that I've never heard of, let alone heard.

But that doesn't mean they're automatically disqualified. What you need to do is listen to these bands and then say you don't love them.

Just before someone suggests Justin Timberlake, I'll come up with a big nooooooooooo from me. Even though "It's Gotta Be Me" and possibly even "Cry Me a River" were OK.

Is it possible for anyone to really really not enjoy anything about Queens Of The Stone Age?

(there's a brand new song playing on their site as of today, by the way - http://www.qotsa.com )

who doesn't like a single Orbital track?

Does just one track count? I mean, I think I'd even be able to find single tracks by James Brown that I kind of enjoy.

It seems from the above thread that Marvin Gaye is the winner. At least if only ILM counts.(I mean, there are probably thousands of rascists out there who refuse to like anything made by someone who isn't white, but if we keep to ILM, then Marvin Gaye may well be the winner)

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 19 April 2007 07:41 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't like Marvin Gaye. I tolerate his stuff when it's coming through a nearby speaker, but I don't own any of his records and wouldn't buy any.

unperson, Thursday, 19 April 2007 10:50 (seventeen years ago) link

StanM, Thursday, 19 April 2007 10:57 (seventeen years ago) link

So we can removed Gaye and Ramones too then (I am not exactly a fan of The Ramones, but they're OK, so I wouldn't veto them)
