Just watched "One Man's Trash" and it's as ambiguous and compelling as a good short story.

i'm with you there; i think it's the high water mark for the series.

Yup

one month passes...

Hey Beloved Pals,
I just wanted to let you know that, while I am so excited for Girls to return on Feb 21, I won't be out and about doing press for the new season. As many of you know I have endometriosis, a chronic condition that affects approximately 1 in 10 women's reproductive health. I am currently going through a rough patch with the illness and my body (along with my amazing doctors) let me know, in no uncertain terms, that it's time to rest. That's a hard thing to do, but I'm trying, because all I want is to make season 6 of Girls the best one yet. I'm lucky enough to have support and backup from Jenni, Judd and the whole Girls gang. So many women with this disease literally don't have the option of time off and I won't take it for granted.
Wishing you all health & happiness, in whatever form suits you.
Back soon
xxLena

lol there's a headline

Οὖτις, Friday, 19 February 2016 22:46 (eight years ago) link

I'll keep watching and keep getting frustrated by this show, for reasons I can't understand

Vinnie, Saturday, 20 February 2016 04:13 (eight years ago) link

more like *hurls*

salthigh, Saturday, 20 February 2016 05:01 (eight years ago) link

That was a really good piece though - I was surprised at the reveal that the author is a mere 28. I was also sort of startled at the reminder that there is a generation of young urbanites who really deeply feel attached to and relate to this show.

Desi killing it in this episode.

schwantz, Monday, 22 February 2016 06:41 (eight years ago) link

yeah ep was better than I expected, p funny.

Οὖτις, Monday, 22 February 2016 18:41 (eight years ago) link

Marnie's "I'm a chill chick but please run every detail by me" schtick was pretty funny too.

Andrew Rannells' age is 37.

I dunno man, i was pleased to see Brigitte getting paid but otherwise this felt like self parody to me

i believe that (s)he is sincere (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 08:22 (eight years ago) link

i kind of enjoy watching everyone except LD and Ray.

Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 24 February 2016 01:17 (eight years ago) link

its a lot more polished and sitcom than it used to be but it was p funny and i am fine with that. kind of wanted the ep to be longer though. think both it and togetherness could stand to be 40 minute shows or something.

pantsuit aficionado (stevie), Thursday, 25 February 2016 22:13 (eight years ago) link

The scene with Ray and Desi in the river was the most sitcomy this show has ever been. And it was proceeded by Hannah complaining about how sitcomy the girls were. Still, not a bad ep

Vinnie, Friday, 26 February 2016 03:11 (eight years ago) link

Last nights episode was the worst yet. Show tipping into self parody

i;m thinking about thos Beans (Michael B), Wednesday, 2 March 2016 14:11 (eight years ago) link

this show feels so outdated and boring

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 2 March 2016 14:59 (eight years ago) link

yeah this show has completely run out of fresh and interesting ideas. I wonder how it's gonna hold up in 20 years?

I feel like it tries to find edginess and profundity and stuff in sources that have been completely tapped out

i liked the wedding ep but otherwise this show is p bad now

johnny crunch, Monday, 7 March 2016 05:11 (eight years ago) link

This season has been p reliably funny and watchable tbh - much like the last two seasons.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 7 March 2016 11:48 (eight years ago) link

my thought on the japan episode -- "wait, she works in tokyo, how is her apartment not a shoebox"

Option ARMs and de Man (s.clover), Tuesday, 8 March 2016 01:15 (eight years ago) link

I liked this episode, definitely more than the last two. Not much happened but the arguments between the couples were, I dunno, more believable than usual? Mostly I liked that the girls were interacting with each other again, and not just doing their own thing

Vinnie, Tuesday, 15 March 2016 10:48 (eight years ago) link

yea this was an improvement, i prob credit the bruce eric Kaplan written by

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 15 March 2016 11:14 (eight years ago) link

also lack of ray is helpful; i like karpovsky a lot but im done w his character

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 15 March 2016 11:25 (eight years ago) link

this show is not great, but the acting and writing for Marnie and Desi produces lots of laughs culminating in this season with Marnie's authentic pronunciation of Ecuador and Desi's fit of self loathing at not being able to take his tank top off.

mizzell, Tuesday, 15 March 2016 16:17 (eight years ago) link

i laughed at the tank top bit, but this show is more or less 100% bullshit, entirely bereft of ideas, and seemingly interested in easy target caricatures while also somehow infused with a ton of self-congratulatory liberal reflexiveness. i predicted that the end of the first season portended bad things and i think i was right.

ryan, Tuesday, 15 March 2016 16:24 (eight years ago) link

it's mired in the dumbest cliches at this point

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 15 March 2016 16:27 (eight years ago) link

it's turned into a mediocre sitcom and hannah's awful teaching career just makes me feel anxious and desi seems to be a different character every episode but yes marnie is reliably awful every week (and very entertaining at that) and the jessa and adam subplot is surprisingly watchable, though i have this weird feeling they're actually going to kill adam off.

"This is the worst part." (stevie), Wednesday, 16 March 2016 09:12 (eight years ago) link

but like i think it was a more uneven and "worse" but more interesting show before this season. i don't know. i seem to be in a grump w/tv right now. even the second season of togetherness is bleh to me.

"This is the worst part." (stevie), Wednesday, 16 March 2016 09:13 (eight years ago) link

I thought the first few episodes were good this season and now everyone's back to being an idiot again.

Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 17 March 2016 00:00 (eight years ago) link

1. ew is the viewer supposed to ~feel sometihng~ @ blandrew flannels' times square kiss? ugh
2. that gay sex scene was totally hilarious and v otm bad bossy gay sex
3. this show totally IS devoid of ideas, and has become a mediocre sitcom where the humor comes from the characters being their own caricatures; there is no more situational humor, it's just "lol at how predictably self-absorbed and ridiculous hannah/jessa/marnie is". it's still really funny at times but it's completely lost everything that made it zeitgeisty and fresh and essential.
4. desi is a terrifying monster

sexy dander (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 19 March 2016 22:16 (eight years ago) link

5. shoshanna was initially introduced as a flat one-note caricature among three seemingly-complex/complicated/interesting women, and was then developed into the only really likable and complex and relatable character among three flat one-note caricatures, and then has like seemingly been done away w/ or pushed farther into the background, what the fuck

sexy dander (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 19 March 2016 22:21 (eight years ago) link

her episode in Japan was great. She's the best thing in it by far.

someone who just gets annoyed at bad tweets (stevie), Sunday, 20 March 2016 14:01 (eight years ago) link

The end of that episode was the worst cliched hamfisted garbage

Οὖτις, Sunday, 20 March 2016 14:34 (eight years ago) link

I'm a sucker for stuff set in Japan AND Shosh, but I thought that ep drew from the worst moments of Lost in Translation

Vinnie, Sunday, 20 March 2016 16:18 (eight years ago) link

i sorta love how terrible they had to make desi to find an appropriate match for marnie's self-absorbtion

ive seen enough Good Wife episodes (s.clover), Monday, 28 March 2016 05:45 (eight years ago) link

like a one hour play about just the two of them fighting would be sort of amazing, in a modernist avant-garde awful way

ive seen enough Good Wife episodes (s.clover), Monday, 28 March 2016 05:46 (eight years ago) link

man that was bad

only funny moment/laugh was when Desi started to cry

Οὖτις, Thursday, 31 March 2016 20:59 (eight years ago) link

glad they brought Marnie's douchebag ex back around for one final round of humiliation though

"What have you been doing since you left Girls we broke up?"

"Now I'm a fat drug-dealing junkie!"

schwantz, Thursday, 31 March 2016 21:30 (eight years ago) link

ok so Hannah has become so improbably immature and bad decision makey and just a fucked up nonsense shell of a human being and it has completely ceased to be funny, interesting, or even remotely logical or realistic. It makes absolutely zero sense, and also it's very tiresome and I don't care about anything she does at all.

sexy dander (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 4 April 2016 14:20 (eight years ago) link

I can't separate this show in my mind from Dunham's sycophantish public displays of appreciation for people like Hillary Clinton and Melinda Gates, and to me that is of a piece with the show's very narrow, mainstream young upper-middle-class liberal take on things -- forward thinking about sex and relationships up to a point, complacent about p much everything else.
