i rally liked adam driver in this ep! he went for it i thought the aladdin skwtch started a little lame but all of the weird twists at the end made up for it. undercover boss, golden globes, america's funniest cats, porn doctor all made me laugh.

nerd shit (Will M.), Monday, 18 January 2016 14:41 (eight years ago) link

I thought the first half was a little week and didn't think undercover boss really brought the laughs but the episode got better as it went on. Funniest Cats was great on many levels. Golden Globes was probably the best. Bummed there was no Girls spoof though, as predictable as that would've been.

love that Kyle Mooney/Amy P sketch

Van Der Beek's masterpiece (rip van wanko), Monday, 18 January 2016 17:19 (eight years ago) link

Saw the Porn Doctor and French Cats skit. Driver was good in both, but both basically ended in lame deus ex cast member fashion. Hey, the skit is over now!

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 18 January 2016 18:34 (eight years ago) link

i saw pron doctor via FB and my god what happens to you ppl every week?

only potential joke that was carried off was cue-card monotone dialogue, and that was small

we can be heroes just for about 3.6 seconds (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 19 January 2016 19:25 (eight years ago) link

writing in this episode seemed much stranger than usual - it wasn't all bad but it was all very wtf

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 19 January 2016 19:29 (eight years ago) link

it was pretty bad, and yes, often weird. i liked Adam Driver tho but that's just because he's a dreamboat and seemed to commit to the whole thing

Bayer's theater kid doing the news is my favorite shit

Was killing myself laughing at that leslie jones monologue. Other than that I thought this was pretty weak.

Cornelius Pardew (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 24 January 2016 19:43 (eight years ago) link

Kinda liked Ronda Rousey beating up the mean girls.

curmudgeon, Sunday, 24 January 2016 22:03 (eight years ago) link

the oscars diversity skit would have been hilarious had they not beat you over the head with the point at the very end of the sketch. the fake movie clips were very funny.

J0rdan S., Sunday, 24 January 2016 22:07 (eight years ago) link

i like kenan's old man bit on weekend update.

the leslie jones monologue was good but it's a shame she's supposed to be bouncing off of jost, he can't keep up w/ her at all

J0rdan S., Sunday, 24 January 2016 22:08 (eight years ago) link

knew the oscar sketch was abt diversity approx .4 seconds into it

johnny crunch, Sunday, 24 January 2016 23:05 (eight years ago) link

well it built up really well but then the end is the presenter going "the winner is... all the white guys!" and it's like "right. yeah. we got it. thank you."

J0rdan S., Sunday, 24 January 2016 23:06 (eight years ago) link

yeah a lot of their sketches suffer from trying to put a bow on it at the end. the one w/ the two guys who didn't understand parties ended pretty badly with the quick jump forward to them actually showing up at the house.

apple bottom steen, HOOS with the fur (some dude), Sunday, 24 January 2016 23:36 (eight years ago) link

you know, the shitty endsings of sketches don't really bother me that much? it doesn't really ruin a fun sketch before the end. it just makes it clear the sketch & laughs are over. like, the party guys are funny, even if the last line isn't. ditto "knowing" what the sketch is about re: oscar diversity, the joke isn't "getting" it? the increasingly pointless white roles (and the increasingly angry co-star glares) are what made it funny!

why do i always feel the need to defend this show :/

Will v. Maim (Will M.), Monday, 25 January 2016 05:09 (eight years ago) link

The Oscars thing seemed like they couldn't hold back so the second fake movie clip gives the joke away as obviously as possible. A little more buildup would've worked better.

i like kenan's old man bit on weekend update.

I love that bit. "It's like the asbestos removal men said, 'Good God, there's someone alive in here!'"

stupid children forever (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 25 January 2016 20:15 (eight years ago) link

p boring episode. their attempts to clown Trump are sad and toothless.

Οὖτις, Monday, 25 January 2016 20:22 (eight years ago) link

Yeah, real Trump is more outrageous if not "funnier" than Darrell Hammond.

Retro novelty punk (Dan Peterson), Monday, 25 January 2016 20:58 (eight years ago) link

Their attempts to keep Darrell Hammond out of the dressing room and off of the stage are sad and toothless.

Give Darrell his KFC job back and, ffs, give Norm something more dignified to do.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Monday, 25 January 2016 21:11 (eight years ago) link

because really, if there's one thing Norm Macdonald has staked his career on, it's dignity

even though there's this weird gay connotation to jay pharoah's ben carson impression it's easily the best of the current ones imo, too bad he's gonna be out of the race soon

Man, no discussion of the Larry David episode?

Or how terrible that first Kanye song was tonight?

we salute you, our half-inflated dark lord (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 14 February 2016 08:38 (eight years ago) link

Kanye is an awful performer.

Larry David's opening monologue was great last week.

Cornelius Pardew (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 14 February 2016 08:54 (eight years ago) link

Does Kanye have something going on with him? Seems really off.

Cornelius Pardew (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 14 February 2016 08:58 (eight years ago) link

I was kind of wondering that myself. Really weird. Second song was better but seemed like he was barely in that.

we salute you, our half-inflated dark lord (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 14 February 2016 09:03 (eight years ago) link

Does Kanye have something going on with him?

do you mean physical health-wise? because kanye /always/ has "something going on with him" in some fashion or another

wizzz! (amateurist), Sunday, 14 February 2016 11:23 (eight years ago) link

von miller read cue cards/performed better than like 90% of guest hosts

johnny crunch, Sunday, 14 February 2016 21:46 (eight years ago) link

The whole Larry David episode was worth it just to see him in costume in the FBI training sketch.

So the Beyonce taped bit ... is this the second time this season that SNL has lampooned a pop star in the form of an apocalyptic Hollywood thriller? Didn't they do that with The Squad and Taylor Swift? And didn't they also do it with The Beygency?

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 15 February 2016 01:55 (eight years ago) link

Goddamn Kanye sucked.

If you, like me, enjoy impressions, check out Jay Pharaoh's appearance on Weekend Update this week. He does Dave Chappelle and Hannibal Burress! I don't think I've ever seen impressions of either guy before, by anyone.

JRN, Sunday, 6 March 2016 21:15 (eight years ago) link

Yeah that was pretty good. Not the best written bit but fun to watch.

johnny crunch, Monday, 7 March 2016 05:15 (eight years ago) link

His Chris Rock is nearly perfect. If I'd been in the other room and couldn't see Jay doing it, I'd have thought it was Chris.

the kevin roberts skit, and the outtakes, is one of the funniest things i've ever seen. idek why bc it's very dumb

Arianna Grande's impression of Jennifer Lawrence is kind of frighteningly good.

bearded flack trickster god (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 13 March 2016 08:42 (eight years ago) link

Right? I'd seen her do most of, if not all, her singing impressions on Fallon before, but she's just really good at impressions all around.
