Not to be a false-ass pedant, but I thought the Misthyrming and the Dimesland came out in very late 2014?

Tom Violence, Thursday, 26 November 2015 14:27 (eight years ago) link

Nope, sorry, the Misthyrming came out in February. I think the Dimesland album was December of last year though.

Tom Violence, Thursday, 26 November 2015 14:28 (eight years ago) link

Would the other Jute Gyte album from thus year be eligible? I wont nominate it bcz Ive never got into Autechre and therefore opted to skip it, but someone else could maybe

Dimesland came out in very late 2014?

It just came out on CD on Crucial Blast. I guess it was digital-only before that, if that disqualifies it you'll be forcing me to build a time machine and nominate it last year.

VI is a French black metal trinity, made of current and ex-members of Aosoth and Antaeus. Their debut full-length album, "De Praestgiis Angelorum", bestirs within the characteristic black metal niche developed by the said bands, with the addition of expanded guitar work, choirs and subtle sample parts. VI describes their music as "extreme, devoted black metal with illuminated chaos".

- Featuring INVRI (Aosoth, ex-Antaeus) on guitars and vocals.
- Featuring BST (Aosoth, ex-Antaeus, ex-Aborted) on bass.
- Featuring Blastum (ex-Aosoth, ex-Antaeus, Merrimack) on drums.
- Recorded, mixed and mastered in BST Studio (Antaeus, Hell Militia, Aosoth, Vorkreist).
- Cover artwork by Alexander L. Brown (Leviathan, Stargazer, Bolzer, Darkthrone).

Quite like that Sunpocrisy, even though it's a bit shiny by my usual standards. And they really need to work on naming things, the band name and title are both pretty awful.

I thought I was pretty much done with post-metal actually, but I've heard a small handful of things this year that convinces me the genre still has legs. Just about.

I love Maladie's albums but the production, esp on the new one, makes my ears bleed. I like how they combine as many languages as they do metal subgenres, though.

WHich is why we should do these polls after the year is over. I understand that publications have deadlines and stuff but we're not a publication and we're the internet. We should vote after the year is over and put the results out in late January. Otherwise it's not a best of 2015, it's a best of the first 11 months of 2015.

only now realizing i've heard enough metal this year to make a decent ballot

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Wednesday, 2 December 2015 06:53 (eight years ago) link

there was a new hooded menace record this year? goddammit

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Wednesday, 2 December 2015 06:55 (eight years ago) link

It has to be done before the main poll and when you run it the week before the main poll it gets overshadowed by the other poll and people cant be arsed voting in both esp when voting is open for both at the same time.

If someone else wants to run it then they can choose when it runs. But everytime i ask there's no takers

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 2 December 2015 11:32 (eight years ago) link

oh and another of the reasons we moved the poll to December is because everyone was burnt out making lists by january and we got a terrible turn out.

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 2 December 2015 19:08 (eight years ago) link

Anyway what do you all want as the maximum ballot size this year?
20
25
50?

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 2 December 2015 19:10 (eight years ago) link

I'd be fine with 50 even if I don't reach that number.

ultros ultros-ghali, Wednesday, 2 December 2015 19:13 (eight years ago) link

yeah its not compulsory to do the maximum, if you only want to vote for 5 albums you can regardless of the maximum
