that track is kind of weird but I will try to let it sink in given my 180 on FWB. Something kind of late 90s about it in a way I can't quite place.

Scream has just ratcheted up my expectations several notches. The idea that this album might actually be brilliant hadn't really occurred to me before now.

spoilers: "california" on this album really goes for the wind-in-hair route 101 pop chorus. i wonder if she thought about phantom planet. title track a lil bit like something on ray of light, ballad after it a lil bit like something on music. nothing else as abrasive as the way-rad "scream" but "kill v maim" (lol) nicely dense and cocky. for some reason whenever i see or hear her i feel inspired, it is an unusual feeling.

4ad is down at the moment, so... will the vinyl version not feature Realiti? The cd version lists it twice as track 10 and track 15 realiti demo as a bonus track.

New Realiti is pretty much an extended version of the demo, she adds an opening, poppier sounding verse. Not sure how I feel about it I was used to the demo version.

World Princess is the highlight on first listen but this is way too pop compared to her previous albums. Sounds like something like Kelly Clarkson. Backlash will be inevitable.

and the studio version of "realiti" is kind of a headscratcher

she turned it into a banger... I preferred it as the more downbeat melancholic demo version but I wouldn't call it a disappointment.

I'm not sure how I feel about this polished version of Grimes. It sounds good and there's some interesting ideas but it kind of lost that bedroom quality that set her apart. I can't make up my mind.

Lovers of early 00s pop will probably love this. At times it sounds like Kelly Clarkson and Gwen Stefani and Nelly Furtado and Britney Spears.

Kill V Maim will be the 2nd video/single and California the 3rd.

i just finished listening to it and i think you're overstating this

Maybe it's an overstatement... I don't know. Just the opening minute of Kill V Maim:

0:00-0:30 = Kelly Clarkson-esque
0:40-1:00 = I'm definitely hearing Gwen Stefani.

Excited to hear this. I haven't really kept up with Grimes lately, but I read this thread the other night, and now I've been playing both "Realiti" and "Flesh Without Blood" on repeat.

listening to this in proper quality, it's mostly great. a bit surprised by how summery most of it is after her talk of 90s alt influences & guitar etc. but that's not bad at all. highlights are probably Flesh Without Blood, Kill v Maim, Artangels, and Butterfly?

the start of the album is a bit messy - Scream feels very out of place sequenced where it is & Belly of the Beat feels a bit half-formed?

the new version of Realiti doesn't match the demo's swirl but I like the new synth line in the outro, it's fine, though the demo is still probably the best thing she's done.
