get not wanting her to be this straightforwardly pop all the time but have watched this like a dozen times today

still way-recognizably her imo, brought into simple focus

playlists of pensive swift (difficult listening hour), Wednesday, 28 October 2015 03:19 (eight years ago) link

After a few listens it becomes interesting just to focus on the interplay between her trademark touches and the straightforward popness.

I think I got a little worried at first when I heard the "ay-ayee-yay" and that melodic tic on "I don't SEE THE LIGHT" that's in so many songs.

I know I've already been yellowcarded about music geekery here but I love the way she goes out of key on that one note in "I - don't - care a-a-nymore"

yes, I love that too

NATION: ? ? ? (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 28 October 2015 04:08 (eight years ago) link

ok i'm 100% onboard with this song now, i just keep playing it

nomar, Wednesday, 28 October 2015 19:36 (eight years ago) link

so this song is basically about fans/critics who don't want her to go pop, right?

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Wednesday, 28 October 2015 19:52 (eight years ago) link

fans/critics being anal retentive again.

haha I'm glad there's a song like this on an album called Art Angels. I can't even tell she's singing on this, but she definitely feels of this.

rap is dad (it's a boy!), Friday, 30 October 2015 15:50 (eight years ago) link

not super into this (mostly due to the guitars) but i respect the titular scream.

that track is kind of weird but I will try to let it sink in given my 180 on FWB. Something kind of late 90s about it in a way I can't quite place.

Scream has just ratcheted up my expectations several notches. The idea that this album might actually be brilliant hadn't really occurred to me before now.

Out on Mischief Night, nice.

Throw it on your Halloween party mixes, ILM.

From yt comments:

Scream (English Translation)
The screams that are buried in the lungs
Buried in the bones and the muscles
Unexploded, undeniable
Cram into a sickness
What used to be dry is now sodden
Swollen, meaty, moist and juicy
My teeth are bouncing off it
A woman pulls out the headful of black hair with her bare hands
Walks along the mountain ridges in a dream
Remembrance swarms like mosquitos
Opening up the unfocused eyes
As if… Quick, spread the legs without desire wide
I take a bite, are you still unmoved
You can scream out
Tracing along your spine
My fingers created a cold lake
I look around, no one is guarding
The exhibitionist takes out his coat and jumps into it with tears on his face.

I planned to record your scream as you reached orgasm
But then realize that I’ve pressed the wrong button
The moment has been lost, irretrievable
You lie there
Struggling with the body fluid that is getting cold
Sticky, transparent, elastic flowers in my palm
I’m not satisfied; I want to squeeze more out of your body
The telephone rings at this moment
A herd of deer run past the window and at the same time
Blue winds are dispelled so quickly, wiping out the foams on the margin of the world
Escaping from your half-opened eyes
Picking up the phone, silence comes
The desire just awoken breathes and screams in the receiver
As I listen I lick away every drop of your sweat.
hook
If you can’t scream then swallow it down.

scream is cool

flopson, Saturday, 31 October 2015 18:04 (eight years ago) link

it would be better if there was a part sung by grimes though

this song is so, so pretty

Ina-Garten-Da-Vida (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 3 November 2015 02:09 (eight years ago) link

it's the best thing she's done imo

flopson, Tuesday, 3 November 2015 03:26 (eight years ago) link

Nah realiti is still better

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Tuesday, 3 November 2015 03:41 (eight years ago) link

realiti is imo the best song of the year but this isn't far behind.

nomar, Tuesday, 3 November 2015 03:43 (eight years ago) link

surprised by the love for these 2 tracks. I guess the new album won't be for me.
good for her, anyway !

AlXTC from Paris, Tuesday, 3 November 2015 09:38 (eight years ago) link

spoilers: "california" on this album really goes for the wind-in-hair route 101 pop chorus. i wonder if she thought about phantom planet. title track a lil bit like something on ray of light, ballad after it a lil bit like something on music. nothing else as abrasive as the way-rad "scream" but "kill v maim" (lol) nicely dense and cocky. for some reason whenever i see or hear her i feel inspired, it is an unusual feeling.

playlists of pensive swift (difficult listening hour), Wednesday, 4 November 2015 02:11 (eight years ago) link

leak?

flopson, Wednesday, 4 November 2015 02:52 (eight years ago) link

4ad is down at the moment, so... will the vinyl version not feature Realiti? The cd version lists it twice as track 10 and track 15 realiti demo as a bonus track.
