yo la tengo have some good songs and one or two classy albums even but to say that you "love" them suggests that your sum experience with the emotion consists of having made out with your hand a few times when you were 12

I'm more mystified that people keep bringing up bands (Yo La Tengo, EC, Talking Heads, etc.) who have already been unceremoniously drummed out of the running... however yes, obviously the answer is "no" there is no band that everyone loves because there's always someone like Geir with a weird politico-aesthetic agenda who will refuse to see any value in a given canonical performer. With Geir its James Brown, with dance-lovin indie haterz its probably the Velvets or something...

But that doesn't mean they're automatically disqualified. What you need to do is listen to these bands and then say you don't love them.
