sometimes I think about a sort of spinoff/cousin thread of jazz records whose titles are bad puns on the artists' names. Would be a long thread.

In my experience, this is because jazz artists tend not to give a rat's ass about anything other than the music itself -- song titles, cover art, etc. It's almost an entirely different motivation.

It's kind of funny to interpret this as "strung in reverse." It's not like strings have a nut end and a tuner end.

well "brown outs" are also a thing in themselves. but i admit i was hoping it was a reference to a member named Brown who had been kicked out of the band.

I hadn't heard of 'brown outs'! wikipedia has cleared this up anyway:

Morgan had signed a two-album deal with RCA, and in 1973 embarked on the recording of their second (and ultimately final) album, originally titled "Brown Out." The name of the album was later changed when it became apparent that the band intended to include an insert of the themselves mooning the casual record buyer.[1] Thus "Brown Out" became The Sleeper Wakes.

wiki also notes that the singer went on to make models for the Thomas the Tank Engine TV series

oh man original "brown out" cover concept is clearly one of the lost horrible masterpieces of this genre
