pc user, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 00:15 (sixteen years ago) link

what's the difference between that and any other shift?

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 00:17 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm also back to 8x5, myself, noon to eight. It's pretty fucking sweet if I say so myself.

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 00:18 (sixteen years ago) link

i'd hate to work weekends cuz i go out drinking

i like to know i'm home every night, no hours all over the place, and a steady wage.

pc user, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 00:45 (sixteen years ago) link

that's my schedule tom, and it's awesome.

one year passes...

I'm pretty happy with my closed-down town.
All the stools upside down, nobody around.
I start my day in the afternoon,
So I had to learn to like my last-call gloom.

Have I somehow not fucked w/ this thread at all?

After 7ish years in the insurance industry I am INCREDIBLY relieved to have somehow finagled a 9-3/4pmish kitchen job. IE someone pinch me.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 18 December 2008 07:56 (fifteen years ago) link

Basically I managed to find a well paying kitchen job where the extent of my responsibility is basically to make sure A) we don'at run out of thawed shrimp and B) we have a vaguely tasty soup on a daily basis. HOORAY FOR RESPONSIBILITY.

I work a split shift, M-F. Early shift is 6:50am-9:30am. Afternoon shift is 2:25pm-4:30pm. This is a sub-25 hr. work week. Pay is $12.50/hr. Do the math.

Aimless, Thursday, 18 December 2008 16:59 (fifteen years ago) link

I was going to do the math until you threw those :50's and :25's in there.

өөө (Pleasant Plains), Thursday, 18 December 2008 17:06 (fifteen years ago) link

I work either 8:30-12:30, 12:30-6 or 7, or both. I prefer the "both" days because they result in more money. Also, I am starting a second job soon, and that will be 9-5:15 or 9-2. Hoping to start a third job that will be 9:30-4:30 the remaining two days of the week....

Maria, Thursday, 18 December 2008 17:09 (fifteen years ago) link

Always been secretly jealous of those factory shifts of four days on, three days off.

өөө (Pleasant Plains), Thursday, 18 December 2008 17:15 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, my supervisors both have those (not factory shifts though), they work four ten hour days and then get three day weekend. i would love that schedule.

Maria, Thursday, 18 December 2008 17:23 (fifteen years ago) link

that's what a few of our mids guys do. They used to let a couple of us roll like that on days but then everybody wants that schedule and it becomes an unsustainable clusterfuck because we're still in an office environment where most of the support staff and management are bankers' hours/9-5 types.
