milwaukee rules because mark mcmarkelson lives in that blue building downtown. remember, kirsten?

oh and kirsten lives there, too!

mandee, Wednesday, 12 May 2004 20:39 (twenty years ago) link

the road trip from NYC is considerably longer than the one from Chicago, so I can't.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 20:42 (twenty years ago) link

Oh my god, I'd forgotten all about Mark McMarkelson! I should pay him a visit.

kirsten (kirsten), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 20:47 (twenty years ago) link

I'd like to go back to Milwaukee solely to go shopping for one of those puffy vests with Kirsten.

mandee, Wednesday, 12 May 2004 21:15 (twenty years ago) link

Come back, Mandee! There are so many hilarious long-haired 70s cover bands we haven't seen!

kirsten (kirsten), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 21:57 (twenty years ago) link

Milwaukee is great, it's Chicago's finest suburb

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 21:59 (twenty years ago) link

todd swiss (eliti), Thursday, 13 May 2004 01:04 (twenty years ago) link

Yippee! I think we should plan one.

kirsten (kirsten), Thursday, 13 May 2004 01:06 (twenty years ago) link

Aren't we in the midst of planning?

Camtron (Cameron), Thursday, 13 May 2004 06:08 (twenty years ago) link

just name a date and i will try to make it... i, however cant make it from may 20-24.

todd swiss (eliti), Thursday, 13 May 2004 06:14 (twenty years ago) link

And Sarah and I can't come the last week of May (until the 30th) because her mom will be in town. But maybe Memorial Day weekend or sometime in June?

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 13 May 2004 14:25 (twenty years ago) link

Do they still have that festival in Milwaukee in June where bands play for free in all of those parks along the river that goes through the city? I was there a few years back during the festival, the city definitely didn't look empty then. It was packed. Also, you could walk around outside drinking beers and no police would even look twice at you. I liked Milwaukee. Madison is nice (I lived there last summer), but a little too small and a little too upscale for my tastes, though the bike lanes and trails are great.

webcrack (music=crack), Thursday, 13 May 2004 17:48 (twenty years ago) link

Also, I was walking down the street one night in Milwaukee and a carload of girls came by and catcalled at me like you would expect from construction workers. It was funny as hell.

webcrack (music=crack), Thursday, 13 May 2004 17:50 (twenty years ago) link

If you're talking about Riversplash, yeah, we do.

Chris F. (servoret), Thursday, 13 May 2004 17:55 (twenty years ago) link

Jordan, you're playing jazz the same night that the Frogs are playing at the Cactus Club? What time is your show that night?

Chris F. (servoret), Thursday, 13 May 2004 17:57 (twenty years ago) link

Damn, there's a lot going on that night. Apparently I'm playing 8:30 - 12:30 at John Hawk's Pub, which I've never been to. It's on Wisconsin Ave. on the river, it looks like.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 13 May 2004 18:08 (twenty years ago) link

Are there any restaurants honouring Jeffrey Dahmer? Dahmer's Diner?

Charles Dexter (Holey), Thursday, 13 May 2004 18:37 (twenty years ago) link

Oh weird, I didn't know John Hawk's had live music. It has a nice patio on the river, though. Anyway, I'm going to try to be there. My boyfriend's birthday is that weekend, but it's on Friday and he might want to hang out and have BUDDY TIME or something on Saturday anyway.

kirsten (kirsten), Friday, 14 May 2004 17:18 (twenty years ago) link

mannnn, i wanna go to milwaukee fap. but it looks like my BIG SUMMER TRIP will be to nashville this year. (big=3 days)

mandee, Friday, 14 May 2004 17:44 (twenty years ago) link

Cool! I'm sure Camtron will be there too. Right, Cam? :>

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 14 May 2004 19:15 (twenty years ago) link

Why the hell not, I haven't been to John Hawks since... you, me, and Anna ended up there one evening for no apparent reason. I forgot about that until just now.

Camtron (Cameron), Friday, 14 May 2004 20:28 (twenty years ago) link

two weeks pass...
FYI, my gig at John Hawk's tonight got cancelled (well, rescheduled to next month because of some double booking or something). I'm still planning on coming down this week for brewery/museum/drinking fun though.

Jordan (Jordan), Saturday, 29 May 2004 16:42 (nineteen years ago) link

Ha ha, I showed up anyway and had a good time. My buddy that I went with was very happy with the band that played in your stead-- they played "Cantaloupe Island" for him and were pretty good. When are you actually playing, then?

Chris F. (servoret), Sunday, 30 May 2004 06:55 (nineteen years ago) link

Madison is nice (I lived there last summer), but a little too small and a little too upscale for my tastes, though the bike lanes and trails are great.

we are too small yes
"upscale" is true only if
you just stay downtown

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Sunday, 30 May 2004 11:38 (nineteen years ago) link

Haha, man, I'm glad you had a good time Chris. I think we're playing the last Saturday in June, I'll check it out. I'm doing Jazz in the Park in a couple weeks too, the 17th I think.

Jordan (Jordan), Sunday, 30 May 2004 13:59 (nineteen years ago) link

hey jordan my friend
how was le tigre friday?
I could not make it

because plans got changed
now me and Jeff are seeing
Soul Plane late tonite

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Sunday, 30 May 2004 14:10 (nineteen years ago) link

It was cool, both what I expected and not. I drank Rob Roys and whisky sour old-fashioned's, because it seemed like the thing to do there. We split around 11:00 before we could get kicked out for swearing, got some La Bamba's and went to bed.

Jordan (Jordan), Sunday, 30 May 2004 18:32 (nineteen years ago) link

I have class in the evening on the 17th, so Jazz in the Park is out for me. I'll try to make it for your show at John Hawk's, though. Try to see if you guys can get the management to turn off their big screen TV while you play-- it's right next to the stage and annoyed the shit out of me until I got a waiter to turn it off about halfway through the other band's set. Woulda done it sooner than that, but the bass player was watching it while he was playing, so I felt a little guilty about spoiling his fun.

Chris F. (servoret), Monday, 31 May 2004 01:13 (nineteen years ago) link

Jordan, I was looking in the Shepherd Express yesterday and I thought I saw something about your band playing at the festival on Locust Street this Sunday. I haven't been around here much lately because I just moved and haven't had my computer hooked up, but is that true?

kirsten (kirsten), Thursday, 10 June 2004 17:46 (nineteen years ago) link

Bumping because most people in Wisconsin were probably at work when I posted that last one...?

kirsten (kirsten), Friday, 11 June 2004 01:17 (nineteen years ago) link

Sorry Kirsten, I never saw this! Yeah, we played at Locus Street Days, it was a nice time. Free Lakefront beer! FYI, I'm also doing Jazz in the Park tomorrow (the 17th) at Cathedral Park with a jazz quartet.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 17 June 2004 01:59 (nineteen years ago) link

Yay, it's the Jordan Spam thread. Anyway, this Friday I really AM playing at John Hawk's Pub.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 15:25 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh yeah, I should post this on the Green Bay thread, but since this one is revived...my sister will be moving to La Crosse (sp?), not in Green Bay.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 15:33 (nineteen years ago) link

I've only been to La Crosse once or twice, but it seemed quite nice.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 17:06 (nineteen years ago) link

Whoops, wish I'd read that message about Jazz in the Park last week! There's no way that I'm going to make it to John Hawk's this Friday, either. Ah, well.

Chris F. (servoret), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 21:55 (nineteen years ago) link

Hmm... Maybe I'll go see !!! after all.

Chris F. (servoret), Friday, 25 June 2004 20:10 (nineteen years ago) link

Sweet, I wish I could go.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 25 June 2004 20:22 (nineteen years ago) link

Is your band likely to play again at John Hawk's, Jordan?

Chris F. (servoret), Saturday, 26 June 2004 19:38 (nineteen years ago) link

I think so. There weren't that many people there because of Summerfest etc., but staff seemed pretty appreciative and said some things about asking us back.

Jordan (Jordan), Saturday, 26 June 2004 19:51 (nineteen years ago) link

That's cool. Keep us posted. I'll try to make it down to your next gig, if I manage to find out about it in time.

Chris F. (servoret), Sunday, 27 June 2004 07:03 (nineteen years ago) link

milwaukee has had 3 socialist mayors.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 27 June 2004 14:44 (nineteen years ago) link

And how much longer do we have to wait until we get our next one? If only that Republican fool Watts hadn't run in 2000...

Chris F. (servoret), Sunday, 27 June 2004 18:23 (nineteen years ago) link

I work at the same company as Paul S0glin.

Jordan (Jordan), Sunday, 27 June 2004 22:04 (nineteen years ago) link
