the really rubbish track titles aren't exactly screaming out to me, and i'm a good audience to this sort of stuff normally

Skimming through the album just now. There's such a limited sonic palette (heavy drum machines, tinny guitar, headache synths) that it will probably be the only time I ever listen to it. The "limited sonic palette", as you put it, is one of the reasons I like it so much... obviously, I disagree with you about the songs being poor!
