I remember hearing "I Turn My Camera On" on the radio and being shocked that Spoon was getting radio play. I actually remember where I was (Bickford's parking lot, Manchester, NH).

I am just now listening to the LP version of "The Mystery Zone" and I think I actually prefer the truncated CD version. That abrupt mid-word cutoff is just hilarious.
― Tom Violence, Sunday, 2 August 2015 00:18 (eight years ago) link
i didn't know there was a long version! the cutoff is vital.

It's a friend of mine - taken in Toledo, Spain.

― austinato (Austin), Sunday, 2 August 2015 00:44 (eight years ago) link
well, if there is a surprise in the top 2, it will be a p enormous one
― Roberto Spiralli, Sunday, 2 August 2015 00:45 (eight years ago) link
Gimme Fiction was the first Spoon album I listened to seriously. I bought it on its release date to review it for a tiny local paper in the back woods of New Hampshire. I had heard the first three and I think I had played Kill the Moonlight once, so Gimme Fiction was really out of left field compared to what I expected. I fell in love before the end of the first chorus.
― Tom Violence, Sunday, 2 August 2015 00:46 (eight years ago) link
wow that placed high
― call all destroyer, Sunday, 2 August 2015 00:46 (eight years ago) link
I guess I shouldn't be as surprised as I am, because I did vote for it.
― austinato (Austin), Sunday, 2 August 2015 00:48 (eight years ago) link
sorry it had 673 Points.

I was the "Black Like Me" #1 iirc, immense, perfect song

"And when you believe they call it rock and roll"
might be Spoon's most rocking tune?
― Bee OK, Sunday, 2 August 2015 00:59 (eight years ago) link
I really like the way they call out other songs on the album in the first track on the album. None of their other records are thematically linked like that.
― Tom Violence, Sunday, 2 August 2015 01:01 (eight years ago) link
(I mean really it might just be a shortcut to appear thematically linked but)
my number 3, i can say it placed perfectly!

awesome poll! everything hits wasn't my #1 but it feels just. I still remember the first time I heard it, driving north on 405 past LAX. Gobsmacked me it did.
Would love to say I ran out and bought the CD but I think how it went down was I got home and downloaded from eMusic...

tbh the way we get by prob should be #1 but count on ILXor Spoon fans to refuse to be that ~obvious~
(totally guilty of this btw. think i had it second on my ballot because ~come on~...)
